  • We travel to North Carolina in this episode to mine Garnet crystals from the mica schist of the Little Pine Garnet Mine near Marshall, North Carolina. This inexpensive rockhound paradise has opportunities for both hard-core collectors who want to bring a mini-sledge hammer and a variety of wedges and chisels to liberate these beauties from the walls of an easily accessible mine, to the casual enthusiast who wants sift through tailings among the gently swaying trees of this beautiful hideaway.

Great video. I took my family to little pine last April for spring break. We had a blast. Spent about 6 hours there and I could have stayed longer but the family was tired. Just now getting around to cleaning up some of the treasures. With only a dremel it takes some time but I'll eventually get it done. Cant wait to go back.

I am hoping to return this Spring with Chase (and Jake again). We are planning to bring some larger tools and more resolve to fill our buckets. :)

Nothing beats a day of mining and surface collecting on a gorgeous day in the beauty of creation.
