    i think it shows how massive not going balls to the wall the entire time helped Lionel, the fact he didnt fry himself on the bike and was able to have a monster run shows how much he has grown and the skills he has gained! gawd he is an inspiration

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sort of. It’s more he was very smart tactically for this race. But it’s annoying when the top bikers can’t separate because of outdated drafting rules. You’re never going to drop someone with a 10m draft, the pro bikers are too good. So in essence he had no choice and it allowed Sam Long to catch the main group. It also affected Ben Kanute as the packs just worked together to catch him.

    • @davidkaplan5517
      @davidkaplan5517 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogerc23 I don’t understand what you mean. There’s no drafting so you break away and can pass somebody and then it’s harder for anybody else to pass without making a surge.

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@davidkaplan5517 There is drafting. It’s just from a distance of 10 meters at Galveston. Other races it’s 12 or 15m and the pros are calling for 20m.
      At 10m you aren’t getting the 40% draft affect of being on someone’s wheel but at 10m you get a 18-19% draft affect.....depending on who you are drafting and wind it could be more or less. Either way it’s significant and a definite, 100% definite, advantage. Even a 8-9% draft affect is significant when racing over 90km or 180km, and that draft affect can be reached at 15m draft distance.
      It becomes incredibly difficult to drop pros at that 10m distance still. Which is why Sam Long and Lionel couldn’t do it, even with Dreitz there who is also a strong cyclist.

    • @davidkaplan5517
      @davidkaplan5517 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@rogerc23 so what you’re saying is if it was 20 meters then guys would actually try and lead instead of hang back and get the draft benefit? AKA nobody really can build a gap in the lead because the guys behind are using so much less energy and could surge at any point and overtake him?

    • @rogerc23
      @rogerc23 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@davidkaplan5517 The guy in the lead is working harder than those in the draft train. The person right behind the lead is working 18-19% less hard. This conservation of energy could be used for a lot of things. Overtaking at a strategic point (as what happened to Ben Kanute), or they are working less hard to go as fast as the leader and could use this energy for a stronger run and defeat the leader who was doing all the work on the bike.
      At 20 meters you see more of what happened at Daytona and Miami. People overdoing it on the bike to stay with the strong riders and than dying on the run. Instead of them crushing the run because their bike was 18-19% easier than those they drafted off.

    Love it. Keep this up! It is so cool listening to you describe the evolution of the sport in a way that doesn't take away from the performances of the past, it simply highlights that everyone is gotten better. Todays triathletes stand on the shoulders of giants from the past, and have applied those lessons to make this sport as exciting as it is. As a fellow person from Essex County (Amherstburg) I love watching you race and be an ambassador for our sport.

    These race week and after thoughts series for races are great. For sure keep doing this. Also your other videos for me at least give a boost in motivation every time you post a new video. Also congrats to Talbot for puting together such high quality videos. I think i don't speak only for myself when i see you help a lot of people to find motivation even if only for losing weight, have an active life and simply make beter choices in general. You are an inspiration to all of us and you showed us that anything is posible no mater the past, with commitment and hard work there are truly NO LIMITS. All te best from Rmania and thanks for everything.
