This is exactly the type of video i look for when i look for athlete videos. I want to hear their thoughts, the theories they’ve developed over the years and how they use them to structure themselves. Lionels transparency and willingness to speak his knowledge and experience are his defining features. He is a pure athlete. Goal driven and passionate all while conscious, and humble. Those are traits id like to inherit some day. Theres so much we can learn, and i hope to learn, from him (and the rest of team Sanders!)
Unfortunately this will be the way to his defeat. If you want to be succesfull at Kona you should not concern yourself with other things than long course triathlon. I understand that what he's doing is him trying to find the best prep for an Ironman 140.6 race, but I don't understand why he isn't focusing on himself. What works for Gustav Iden might not work for him, and he has been so close already. When Sebi won in 2014 he ran an average 28 km/week. He said so himself in a podcast. Would it be a good idea to only run 28km/week? Probably not. Lionel has so much of his own data to work with, he should get a trainer that is an expert in with that kind of data and focus on himself. For example: Lionel isn't the best swimmer, but he doesn't have to be. He's an excellent bike rider and can ride to the front with Cam Wurf, Sebi and some others. He's also a very strong runner. If he lost some weight we would be an even better runner and probably faster overall. Swimming so much and getting arms like the Hulk might make him a little faster in the swim but will it enable him to swim with Frodeno? No it won't. If he focused on endurance, body composition and aerodynamics (!!) I think Frodeno would be more concerned than when Jan sees him doing olympic triathlon training and swimming.
Totally agree with you, his willingness to share and his transparency make him an even better athlete. It’s a fantastic way to staying accountable and it helps the triathlon community tremendously due to the high value of the information that he shares. He may create stronger competitors, but at the end, that makes him stronger too.And that’s all that matters :)
I really like this format. It’s interesting to see how you’re approaching your training and I appreciate how detailed you are. Looking forward to more content like this! Thanks for constantly inspiring us and good luck on your training!!
Hi, I can only agree with the guys. This kind of video is very nice and easy to see. Understanding what and why you are doing this with a lot of helpful figures. Please continue this way and most of all stay as you are! Thanks for that.
Lionel... Your calmness, your composure, and your relaxed mode is the new Lionel 2021! You are the greatest in the world of triathlon. You will take Kona this year hands down. You're a legend in your journey and stay injury free. Thank you for sharing
Yes, I do appreciate such a video. Why? Because you don't hide your information. You reveal your ideas, you explain your logic, and then you give us the details of what it looks like in reality. Pro athletes tend to keep those things for themselves. By sharing it with us, you are usefull. As long as videos of those kinds will continue to be honest, and opened about your journey, I will continue to watch them with a lot of interest and passion. You don't need fancy video editing when the insights about your training are by themselves interesting.
Maybe include like an animated white board so that we can visualize what your workouts are and what your targets and rests are as well. that would be really cool along with clips from the workouts themselves
Love the content of this video Lionel. Definitely found value in seeing how you broke things up developed a plan for each discipline and will ramp up for each distance. Also nice to see a humanely manageable schedule in the sprint phase. No way I can do what you do but can try to mimic the methodology to become better in my own world. Really appreciate it, it's an awesome feeling to get insight into the training mindset of a pro athlete. Wish more pros in other sports did the same as you.
My plan for 2021 Phase one: Talk about getting in shape Phase two: Shop for the cool new colored Rokas. Phase Three: Get off the sofa Phase Four: Watch Triathlon videos on TH-cam, promising myself that 2022 will definitely be my year.
This video was freaking incredible and extremely informative and inspiring. I am learning how to structure training and these videos are heaven sent. Please keep it up!!
Seeing a new Lionel Sanders video at 4am just before your workout = instantly better day :) Also, I love the video format, so there is absolutely no need to change anything. I love watching your videos during my indoor sessions!
Sharing is caring, love this kind of content and format. Vlog beat blog! Can inform that the Norwegian team also has a very scientific approach to training. This means regular testing in all sports, diet, sleep, etc. Vo2max, lactate, time, etc. When it comes to volume, we talk up to 36-40 hours a week in the most expensive weeks. So short and fast races don't always mean shorter training sessions. Looking forward to next vlog. Greetings from 🇳🇴
One of the most helpful videos I've ever watched - there is so much out there about triathlon training and it's all so general "break it down into macro and micro and blah blah blah" - seeing the SPECIFICS of how you manage your progressions, how much time you spend in TT, how you manipulate your intervals and rest > and how your body responds - those specifics are what make a training plan and figuring out what those specifics need to look like from most of the information out there is like trying to make a cake from a recipe that says you just add flour and eggs and some seasonings and wah-lah we have a deeelicccious birthday cake. Sure, if you want your cake to taste like ass. I can't tell you how long I've waited to for something like this!!! Thank you thank you thank you.
Lionel - This format is gold! Please continue... Love to hear about your training strategy and progression. I had a good laugh at your weekly volume across the disciplines. Your "low volume" week is close to my peak week for a 70.3. I hope to see you at St George 70.3 in May!
Yep dude. Keep em coming. Getting a look and breakdown of how a pro trains is exactly what I like/need. Love training footage as well but the breakdown makes it great.
best content you can get as a fan. wish more athletes would do this kind of vids. I think they need to realize that the interesting thing is not the one competition a year but the tiny steps to that within the year!
I really like this format as well! So interesting to see what type of training a professional do vs an age grouper. But I would for sure want to read about this as well as it is hard to follow through when you describe the sessions in detail. If you do it on a separate page, in the video, or in the comments doesn't really matter!
I really like the transparency in your videos! Also it´s nice to not see you overtraining. This kind of training structure is going to bring you to another level again while preventing overuse injuries.
The written blog was really interesting, but these videos are also amazing. Thanks Lionel and Talbot - really appreciate the vids. Especially videos like these which explain your thinking behind your training.
> Was this valuable? 100x yes. I plan to transcribe these blocks and incorporate this strategy in my owe training, but if you already have it written up on the Internet somewhere, that would be amazing. Keep killing it
Super interesting Lionel, it's refreshing to hear you aren't on a bike for 20hours per week like most age groupers would lead you to believe is the key. Thanks!
Really appreciate the video and break down of the disciplines. Enjoy hearing what training is done and the splits so it can all be put in perspective. Fed up of others just showing a pretty video of the day in my life training 😆 Always look forward to the updates and new content, good luck with 2021 season.
Hi Lionel....as usual awesome content ! Please do continue that kind of format... it’s priceless for us to hear your thoughts and beliefs about training. Us triathletes spend 95% of our season training for few (or none thx COVID) races so it’s very inspiring to see how pros are training. And not any pro but you. Waiting for the next video already.
Thank you Lionel for for sharing so much with all of us...I would love to hear about your nutrition along the way as you train for each distance. Thanks and good luck this year, we’re all cheering for you.
Loving the format Lionel. I find it really beneficial seeing your training volumes and numbers, and being able to compare your training versus us mere mortals. I love the passion you have for this sport it really fires me up to keep pushing ahead in my own training. Keep it up @LionelSanders
Brilliant thanks Lionel, it’s awesome to get such a humble insight into your training! You’re an absolute machine. Looking forward to the next instalment
Excellent video - Gold nugget after Gold Nugget. These type video's are the most beneficial from an overall training perspective (im self coached) . It helps me contextualize my training even though we are obviously at completely different athletic abilities, and have different objectives (mine is IM Portugal in October) .
Great video! Very insightful. It would be nice to hear a little bit more about your swimming and how the training is broken down. Like you did with the bike and run. It would be interesting to hear how you split your swimming training and what kind of intervals you do and times for those. Keep it up! Looking forward to the next video 💪
Great videos Lionel! If i could make a request i would also (the more the better ;)) like to see more of you vs Talbot, like the heart zone video. Cheering for you!
great format for this, lots of detailed info as well as cuts to leg smashing sessions. certainly dont see many other top athletes releasing this kind of data
Great content all the way around! We get to keep track of you as well as learn new ideas along the way regardless of how long we have been in the sport!
For mr. Sanders, the Norwegian Nationalteam already have dialed in the heat training having had malaysian training camp in 2019 i think, before the ITU WTS circuit to hone in the Tokyo preparations.. and Gustav will come from the Tokyo (hopefully!) preparation and racing straight to Kona prep, so he's ready for heat... I like this video from theme to content. I've been waiting and asking something liek this for few times now :) Thanks Talbot and Lionel!
I really enjoyed this video. I'm a data junkie so love all the metrics, specific workouts, etc. Really looking forward to seeing the results and the videos of the future phases!
Unrivalled transparency from Lionel. The fans really appreciate the breakdowns and data.

@@Bendersnatchling You’re the prime example how a little bit of knowledge Can make you look like more of an idiot.
"Really low volume, some of you may laugh"
*Presents my longest ever weeks of exercise*
Haha same 😂 but if you‘re a pro and you can focus just on sport and sponsors etc. it might be tremendously easier
This made me laugh ahah
same, but i gues a 45 hour a week work week will do that to you.
😂😂 I did 25hrs alone on the bike this week
@@zwtvchannel So you're 18 or unemployed and/or no kids?
I really like this format. It’s interesting to see how you’re approaching your training and I appreciate how detailed you are. Looking forward to more content like this! Thanks for constantly inspiring us and good luck on your training!!
I agree with every word!
Definitely love this format!

Wow! Riding in the aerobars on rollers while typing on a computer. I'm impressed!

haha great !
This video was freaking incredible and extremely informative and inspiring. I am learning how to structure training and these videos are heaven sent. Please keep it up!!
I like that four phase idea starting with "low volume". Makes a lot of sense. I like watching a video over reading any day.
Thanks for the numbers, Lionel. You're a gem. The finger sucking/flipping was priceless, too too funny!
Seeing a new Lionel Sanders video at 4am just before your workout = instantly better day :)

LS and Talbot put out the best content. His channel is so educational and entertaining.

Love this format. The detail and transparency is incredible.
I love when you share the method behind your training and of course when you go all "Lionel" in a workout. It's all fantastic.
Lost it at Erin's shoes :D awsome video as usual!

I'd rather hear you talk about this every once in a while and see some graphics than just read. Awesome stuff!
Yes! Love the video formats, great to absorb after a long day of working thinking about training. Good luck on the house hunting!
Yep dude. Keep em coming. Getting a look and breakdown of how a pro trains is exactly what I like/need. Love training footage as well but the breakdown makes it great.

The written blog was really interesting, but these videos are also amazing. Thanks Lionel and Talbot - really appreciate the vids. Especially videos like these which explain your thinking behind your training.
It's really interesting to see the kind of work/workouts that a professional athlete in this discipline does to stay on top on his game. Respect 👊
This type of video is the one I like the most, so keep doing videos like this. Great work Lionel in your training👍
Yes, love this sort of thing - training sessions, numbers, what's not to like
