  • I stayed in the primitive wild camp for 2 days, with my dog. We slept on deer & sheep skins, cooked up some tasty food and tested out a woodstove and a knife which was very kindly made for me by a subscriber. Should I build a door for this shelter? Let me know in the comments below!

NATHAN did a fine job on your knife: right size; handsome package. My experience with standard Scandi grind knives in food processing is exactly as you report. Hard vegetables split; thin slices don't happen. I like the side windows feature on the Worktuff stove. Radiant heat from the sides is effective and the extra light is a welcome bonus. RATHER THAN ADDING A DOOR, add more mossing over the uncovered ribs at the front to increase protection on that side. Renew moss covering on the roof to withstand spring showers.

Another great dutchie recipe is Sonoran style layered enchiladas. Use your lid to crisp the tortillas (corn or flour). Layer precooked and seasoned shredded chicken or beef , shredded cheese (Cotija, sharp cheddar?), canned refried beans, enchiladas sauce ( you will put a little between layers, don't turn it into a soup, save some for the top) poke a few holes all the way through (to allow air bubbles to escape), bake for about 45 minutes or 85C in the center, remove lid, add more cheese to top, replace lid and melt the cheese (9-15 minutes). It is supposed to be garnished with shredded lettuce and a sunnyside up egg . I have used salsa and sour cream (creme fraiche might be better?) instead, both are good. Get a small dutchie and tortillas that just fit. This almost fills the oven. If you would get the large tortillas for your Petromax, it will feed 8 people. A smaller oven obviously would cook faster.

I’d like to see you improve on your shelter each day if your going to stay in it for a few days. I think you should do a nice beef stew with a brown ale. This will give you a good chance to use that new knife from Nathan on some root vegetables. Let’s keep hearing about choice ales with your meal as well. Keep up the great videos Dustin!

In the spirit of eating outside and in the woods get some venison on the go - maybe a nice thin venison steak, or some venison sausages. That’d go really nice with a dark beer too 👌🏼

One thing that makes me smile - not just in this video, but other bushcraft videoes as well - is, you bring all kinds of stuff like a saw, axe, beer 😊 and in this case even a stove - wich was nice, because I`m looking for one 👍 But still, the fire has to be started with a firesteel !
Same thing in all kinds of bushcraft videos 😄 Why not bring a lighter? 😅

It would be cool to see you make some natural cordage rope to use as ties for your sleeping roll. It would give it even more of a medieval/Viking look! Also, I would like to suggest cooking baked potatoes next time, with maybe some steak or pork chops!

This is a good meal if you get the material for it:
    1. Tortilla Wraps (any kind works and as big as you want)
    2. Spinach, Parmesan and Artichoke dip
    3. Pepperoni slices
Basically, spread the spinach dip on the tortilla, layer it with pepperoni slices and fold up like a quesadilla
Heat on a skillet until both sides are to your liking and enjoy.
It sounds weird, but trust me, you'll enjoy it

You could do a door out of a triangle wood frame and face it with a tarp which could double as a water collector with the runoff going into a big container ready for when you visit the shelter. I expect you prefer to have a natural look though, so the tarp could be hidden under a woven sapling / moss cover

OMG you scared the cr*p out of me. The first few scenes had some somber music and no sign of Amber. I thought something happened to her. My heart was in my throat... and then she went running up to the shelter. Phew
Also, what type of tree was that with the resin blisters?
What were the greens on your burger? Wood sorrel?
I think you should cook up some venison

Why not try to weave a few lengths of sapling together to put a door on the front? Doesn't even have to be hinged?
Plus why not make the roof more weatherproof? You could commit to heavier rain then? Just some thoughts!👌

Great job brother awesome video.... Just an observation about the new stove I don't believe the long-handled item that came with the stove is necessarily a fire poker as it is probably more of an instrument to scrape out the ashes when they build up under the burning rack... On that note why the new stove??? Last week your 4-day video you had a perfectly good stove, and why on earth will you not level your stove out so that your food isn't almost falling out of your frying pan hahaha..... Another suggestion that I would like to offer is for your cheese when you put it on your food to melt as I saw in your video quite a bit of your cheese was left in the pan so something I do with my cheese is to fold the corners in towards the middle about 1" in. or so, so that your piece of cheese looks more like a stop sign rather than a square, it not only fits on the food better it then all melts on top of the food instead of down the side of the food and into your pan.... As far as a meal you would like us to recommend how about some....""blood pudding"".....mmm mmm mmm 😋

Yes a door to keep more warmth in and a raised bed to get off ground; have you tried a hobo meal- hamburger or chicken with potatoes and vegetables on top cook until chicken and vegetables are done you wrap all in aluminum foil one or two pieces quite delicious you can even put spices on top of chicken and potatoes and vegetables with either small pat of butter or a dash of oil

My name is Koriander; huge fan. Try my White Wine Chicken Stew: Chop red potato, red onion, and carrots, lightly soften in oil, salt, pepper, inside a Dutch oven. Then pour in white wine or cooking wine with a squeeze of lemon juice in with veggies. Place a boneless chicken thigh on top of all. Lid on and oven cook in the fire till chicken is done... estimated 20-30 min. Then remove chicken, chop chicken, and toss chicken back in with heavy whipping cream and tarragon. 10 min lid off and ready.... Amazing dish. Please give a shout out if you like.

What to cook? Frito pie. Chili, cheese, fresh onions and Fritos. If you want to make it more healthy, skip the meat add some lentils and beans. No Fritos and just fix up some rice and corn. Hits the spot this time of year and goes well with beer. Add in a side salad with a home made vinaigrette. For dessert an orange or banana.

Good Nz morning Dustin. Now here's a challenge. Just to prove you're a survivalist, how about a wild food meal. Those pheasants you hear, are waiting to be caught. Create a bow and arrows, and bingo. Only thing you take in...water, salt pepper, some flour for thickening., no flavorings, and last but not least, your imagination. Burgers are ok, but you've essentially just had a picnic BBQ in the bush, with stuff out of your fridge. My son at 12, did similar to that. But him and his cousins, used a possum, they trapped, here in Nz bush. They skinned it, and spit roasted it over coals. Now if kids can do that, surely you can do that. My son is now 45...and remembers that well. Use open fire. And no excuses about wet wood. Good luck. Atb.

Great content and great editing! Reminds me of home. A food idea for you would be a nice ribeye sliced up thin with some onion and pepper for a Philly cheesesteak.

Dustin, how about some fajitas or tacos. Using chicken or steak. Bell pepper and red onion.

Also, try a Hogs Back Tea. My favourite ale!
