Long time viewer, and also a native Philadelphian. We do not put bell peppers in our cheesesteaks. It’s every other city’s “interpretation” of it, that includes peppers. For us, it’s just the bread, meat, cheese, and optional, sautéed onions, ketchup/mayo. We have pickled cherry peppers as a side, if you need a palate cleanser after a few bites. I will admit, it did look tasty. Unfortunate for the tent. As always, great video. Cheers Andy!
Peppers are a really nice addition though IMO. And personally I prefer sweet red bell pepper to the green ones. :P I must admit, I am not a fan of the "cheez wiz" or Swiss cheese either tbh. I actually like a nice provolone instead. And the suateed onions are a must!
I loved the next morning seeing that poor tent. We have lawn signs, they're made out of corrugated plastic. Get some silicone caulking and you would have a lightweight shelter for long term. It could be your "emergency" shelter if you ever get in this situation again.... I'm thinking you might 😊
Even Gorilla tape instead of that paper tape he used would make a cloroplast dome last for years. If he gave it a coat of spray paint or UV protectant, it would last even longer.
That was really interesting. The child inside me was rooting for you and the cardboard. We made them when I was a child and spent the night in the, great fun. However we didn’t have any rain to contend with. Your video was great fun and not a failure, a lesson to work from. Cheers.
Four hours of building a batshit bonkers shelter in the wind would make any old simple grub taste amazing but that sandwich looked awesome. Love how you go to so much effort to cook hearty meals. Makes everything so much more pleasurable.
I wouldn't call that a fail, it did exactly what you thought it would do. You had fun learning, designing and building it and you gave us entertainment along the way. Probably my favourite of your videos so far, not least for when you laughed at the point you knew you were heading for the truck but it didn't matter. Glad you came back for the reveal :-)
Warehouse operator here. Get a role of pallet wraps, and try again. The wrap is recyclable. This current config would be good during summer. And think about a different tape next time.
Andy, it wasn’t a total loss. Like you said, you had a good time building it. You did a great job putting your cardboard tent together. You definitely put a lot of forethought and time in building your box tent. I have to give you an A+. Thank you for another great video.
Thanks for the video. Trip to Annapolis Naval Academy: I was an assistant scoutmaster. Our troop had old Eureka Timberline TL-2 tents. I remember one time our troop was scheduled to go camping on a weekend that was going to have heavy rains. We bought heavy thick clear plastic and cut pieces that were 1 foot larger in both directions than the floor of the tents. After setting up the tents we put the plastic inside the tents with the edge goin up the inside wall. It rained so hard that there were streams of water running through our camping area, but the plastic worked! We were at a campsite owned by Annapolis Naval Academy. The facility was across the river from the campus and was for support staff. We were allowed to use the gym, the mess hall there and had a guided tour of the Academy one day of the weekend. We had a great time!
I assumed it would soak through-you proved it. Big difference. Now you can improve on what you established. I would call that success. Many avenues open now. Coating, very thin plastic, using a compressor to dissipate something on the surface .......you did the work, you are the man!
The amount of planning and thought that went into this video is incredible. Thanks for all the hard work, I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish
You really do make great videos. The preparation involved in this one must have been immense. After all your hard work and perseverance, you simply take the bad luck on the chin and move on. Your calm enthusiastic attitude is infectious to watch. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing your next cardboard tent design.
I still think you did good Andy. Give it another try when you can. I really enjoyed it, like you said as long as you had a good time.😂 Thank you for making this grandmaw's day a little brighter 😅😊
Here in Oregon, people put awnings over their tents. During the rainy season they put the tent on pallets. They put tapestry's on the sides in the summer and tarps on the sides in the winter. Your cardboard dome probably would have survived if you had thrown a tarp over it.
I had a similar thought... or if instead of cardboard, the dome was made of wooden dowels or the like, strictly as a means to support a tarp or plastic sheeting. Wouldn't help so much with the wind noise or insulation, but as you say, much better against rain,
@@CSGraves Yeah I think the cardboard is worth it just for the insulation factor alone. It's worth it to be able to heat the space with his propane space heater. Plastic alone on a dowel frame wouldn't hold the heat. Also the rain is deafening on plastic alone. You've effectively made a drum.
DUDE, I totally GET IT! Pain in the arse to actually do, but the cardboard concert emerge tent, plus that white geodesic-dome tent a few weeks ago, oooh, SO doable, how could you resist? I couldn't have, SWEET experiment, THANK YOU!
I lived in a small fishing village and as kids we would use the wax coated fish boxes and duct tape to make forts all the time. They would handle a few weeks worth of rain but you sure didn't want to get them near a fire.
Hugely enjoyable effort Andy and not something I have seen been done before. The carpenter in me loves to sit and watch structures be created and the fact that it never worked has made you, me and by the looks of it lots and lots and your viewers scratch our heads and re-design our own solutions.
That was such fun to watch - not so much to do I expect. I admire your commitment - as well as your culinary expertise. As an old lady it feels like a breath of fresh air to me and brings back memories of fun times. I have watched lots of your previous videos and look forward to more in the future.
Hello, new subscriber here. I had watched your previous cardboard tent video last year, and enjoy your videos on these adventures. Hopefully I can someday add an journey like this to my own channel. Cheers from Newfoundland
One should rarely be afraid of try new things. Not a failure. The concept was sound, you just need to tweak the materials. A rain fly would have helped, but probably still not enough. Maybe a little bit bigger for more comfort. A coat of polyurethane maybe? You gave it a go and that’s what’s important. Good job Andy.
It's amazing to see you do this. I live in a pretty windy place. I've had full tents be picked up of the ground and blown like a tumbleweed. Now I hammock camp 😅 I could never do this, so I thank you for allowing me to love vicariously through you. Keep doing what you do! In case you are wondering, I live in the Plains of Texas. The average wind speed here is 12 mph (7.5 kph) with gusts around 30 (48). Storms, when they blow in, double that.
I offer this up.All things being equal, fabric covered drain tile around the tent in conjunction with a heavy duty waterproof tarp and you could float your dome, spray it with insulation foam and you use the dome to minus -50 C. No kidding I’ve done it. Your nemesis seems to be water. I know you know all about expedition gear, and I do like a guy that knows what he is doing, and tries it with the cheapest stuff ever made. Sorta anti-camping gear. Funny & interesting. Love it. As a doc I think a decent tent and trap to flee (drama I know) to in case of emergency would be a good idea. Gotta watch out for pneumonia, burns, and curl your fingers more when using your knife. And you’re an amazing chuck-wagon cook.
You did a lot of work and we appreciate it! As to surface sealing and seam sealing, if you were making a standard tent you would need to do both. It's still a cardboard structure when it has been weatherproofed. This has been a fascinating project. I also expected the geodesic dome to shed water much better than it did.
I also had a false sense of confidence after watching the previous cardboard tent video - I gasped when you showed what it looked like in the morning! Glad you weren't in it anymore! I definitely understand why you just wanted to go home at that point. I loved this video idea and watching you construct the tent was amazing! I guess if you wanted to try it again you would really need to either spray it with a weather proofing spray (like for winter boots?) or put a tarp or something over it once it was constructed. I think that would still count as a Cardboard tent. :)
Cool idea, this dome. Toss a paint drop cloth (1 or 2 mil) over it and Bob's your uncle. One thought on the heater, since it heats the space by radiating out, a small whisper fan mounted near the heater 'can' will push the heat away from the heater and supercharge the heat distribution. I use the same idea in a larger space with a radiant space heater at home. Keep up the great content.
I think the dome tent is awesome!. About ten years ago I built half a 11 foot geodesic dome and put it on top of a 4 foot knee wall and covered it with plastic turning it into a greenhouse. it was a lot of work cutting the 2x4s to the proper angles and lengthes. It is still standing and we have used it int he winter to have fires. I would like to build a bigger one and cover it in to be a cottage at some point. We live in North eastern Ontario Canada. Awesome video thanks!
I made Truck Box Camper out of a cardboard box (and also made a sleeping pad out of Balloons). You never fail to please Andy. I love your channel and you inspire me to continue making You Tube Videos. Thanks Mate!
What an awesome effort Andy! Well done for giving it a go, your videos are a joy to watch. We've been binge watching 2 or 3 a day for a while now. You are a master videographer and what a camp cook! We used to camp in outback Australia a lot and really miss it. So many new gadgets available now. Must try and get hold of some Neck Oil, looks like a good brew. All the best from New Zealand.
I use to make cardboard tents for weekend concert festival and it always rained so I made a wood frame with screws and washers then coated with Thompson’s WaterSeal and a tarp. First time it flooded because I put a tarp over and under creating a pool. All cardboard was pre coated only on exterior and labeled to make easy build. Upgrades to foam board roof for max waterproof
Not a failure, at all. You planned well, worked well, put it up well, knew what you were up to. Great video, sorry for the hard night and thank you ! 😊💪👍
The cat was like damn paparazzi do not take my picture! Cute kitty sweater. The wind was real bad I felt for you. It is a cool looking tent. Was a great video thanks.
Cool video. Before you switch materials altogether, please try a spray varnish or boot waterproofing grease on a few pieces first. If your goal is one long rainy night, either of those may get you there. But most serious outdoor tents now have a rain shield that sheds the water before it even hits the tent, so a light plastic tarp over top would do very well (not the goal, I know.) Good luck.
I wach a lot of videos this one was a lot more of a suspense I kinda knew the cardboard was not going to hold up in rain but it got me thinking if you just use better material it will be a sure winner I totally like the pattern in which the cart ord was fitted together almost makes me want to go and build one myself, but a tent is still easy to put together then when done with camping it easy unasembles, still like the cart ord idia, 😆 un- usual camping work's out well.
50 yrs ago I stayed in a waxed cardboard box that was 3 ft 3ft x 10 ft, held up perfectly during a rain storm. But this was in the fall in Germany on a U.S. A. F. Base on the flightline where our Captain told us to seek shelter wherever we could find it, it worked like a champ for an overnight stay. Slept like a baby in it all nite.
I agree with your comment, “At what point does it become not a cardboard tent?” I would draw the line at using duct tape (acceptable). Once you start with clips and additional waterproofing (which you did NOT do) then it’s no longer a cardboard tent. Good effort!
Definitely a two-man job, if one hopes to avoid all the problems & hiccups you've shown in this [admittedly very fun] video… I’m pleased to say, by the by, that since last night I have been a new *Subscriber,* and I don’t mind confessing to already being completely addicted to your channel! Im sorry to see you were rained out. This was one of the most creative homemade shelter videos i have seen. Thank you for taking the time and for all the effort and planning that went into it. Better luck with your next cardboard shelter. ❤
My thoughts on a geodesic dome is how to incorporate drain channels to collect water down rather than through. And, overlapsin critical areas like how siding and roofing tiles overlap. To keep everything compostable and biodegradble maybe some kind of melting wax brushed on.
Waxed cardboard would probably work great for waterproofing, but as silly as it is to bring up with a paper tent. It's REALLY flammable, I use it as a Firestarter because it lights easier and is much harder to put out than normal untreated paper
Look up vagus nerve exercises! Try out different ones for multiple times, until you find one that works for you. It might work instantly or it might take quite some time. At first I thought it was woowoo, but it's actually based in biology and it works absolute wonders! I suffer from severe cptsd, depression, adhd, chronic kidney disease/pain, and a few other things, that screws up my stress response and parasympathetic nervous system. Because of that I'm always lowkey tense and stressed out. For more context I also used to have an extreme anxiety disorder for many years. Where I had agoraphobia, health/death, social and insecurities anxieties. Luckily I resolved all of those completely, and have recovered on that part of my mental health. Anyway aside from therapy, meditation, mindfulness and radical acceptance, vagus nerve exercises have always been, and still are my best quick short term solution go to. I hope you'll be able to find a few that fit you, quickly. Remember even just existing and doing nothing, you are a human being worthy of being here, worthy of living and worthy to be loved. Don't value yourself by others and learn to love yourself deeply. Don't be too hard on yourself and just keep trying. Failing is okay as long as you keep standing up after you fall down. Teach yourself that you only have control over how you react and learn to be okay with whatever you feel. Good luck with everything and I wish you well ❤.

@@Truthwillalwayswinoverlies that would cause the cardboard to mold up.
We built that same cardboard shelter back in 1980 for a high school project 2 man team built like 8 of them..then took them out on a field trip over the weekend .. was fun ...thanks Mr. Ron Lower teacher
I must admit, I am not a fan of the "cheez wiz" or Swiss cheese either tbh.
Like he said just stuff it in the hole.
Yes, he has a great sense of humour & never afraid to laugh at himself 😂
Was just about to post this. Spot on.
I love the effort you put into this! Calculating the angles had to take a bit of time. I love your creativity and approach to design!
Buckminster Fuller is smiling at your experiment. Always a fun time, and sometimes when things go wrong, they actually go right.
I loved it! You’re so upbeat, happy, and positive! So fun! Thanks for taking us along for this adventure.
Man taking cardboard box building like we did as kids creating forts. in the living room or garage. To a advanced engineering level. Respect. 😄👍
All credit for taking this on, it was a brain teaser as well as a test of patience and diy skills. 👏👏
Thanks for the video.
Trip to Annapolis Naval Academy:
I was an assistant scoutmaster.
Add a cheap plastic tarp over the top, you could stay in it for a couple of weeks! Great video, thank you ! ❤
Great fun! Misadventure is still adventure.
You really do make great videos. The preparation involved in this one must have been immense. After all your hard work and perseverance, you simply take the bad luck on the chin and move on. Your calm enthusiastic attitude is infectious to watch. Keep up the good work. Look forward to seeing your next cardboard tent design.
26:27 looks mighty tasty!
Cheers from Star City Indiana USA 💚☘️💚
I still think you did good Andy. Give it another try when you can. I really enjoyed it, like you said as long as you had a good time.😂
Thank you for making this grandmaw's day a little brighter 😅😊

Yea, it held up very well ...for carboard but, some trash bags over it, it might work.
Great attitude 👍👏😀
Not a big camper enthusiast or an outdoor person myself. But I love art, and dear Sir, your man made shelters are ART. Big fan from Indonesia ❤️
DUDE, I totally GET IT! Pain in the arse to actually do, but the cardboard concert emerge tent, plus that white geodesic-dome tent a few weeks ago, oooh, SO doable, how could you resist? I couldn't have, SWEET experiment, THANK YOU!
Love the roar of that wind! Cardboard tent looks cozy. Great video. Would love to see another cardboard tent!
OMG!! Andy.. You have more patience than I have..
🤭
I’m a vanlifing maths teacher in Yorkshire and loved this video. Can’t wait for your next geodesic dome. Bring it in loads of fun to watch.
I burst out laughing every time I see your face. I can't help it, your lovely warm nature is reflected in your eyes.
As I'm watching this the rain is hammering against my flat window and the wind is howling. Very authentic! Love the Dome!
Great video, thanks Andy!
That was such fun to watch - not so much to do I expect. I admire your commitment - as well as your culinary expertise. As an old lady it feels like a breath of fresh air to me and brings back memories of fun times. I have watched lots of your previous videos and look forward to more in the future.
Superb effort to be fair.
You have the patience of a Saint to put that together and up in those winds.
Exactly, some kinda coating.. paint, maybe a hot wax sprayed on the panels..
If you want to do this again, I recommend putting a tarp over the dome for the water proofing. Good experiment, good video 👍
This was an awesome watch mate, great job on this, really great to watch
I made Truck Box Camper out of a cardboard box (and also made a sleeping pad out of Balloons). You never fail to please Andy. I love your channel and you inspire me to continue making You Tube Videos. Thanks Mate!
😂 I can just imagine you floating around on your balloons while you're sleeping in your camper, lol
I envy your cold tolerance, I love the sounds of wind and rain.
Love your wee cat, we have three. I cant tell you how much respect I have for this build, in that wind, amazing
Your videos are my happy place! Even the bummers! You have such goodness that shines through and your positive attitude is contagious!
The cardboard tents were fun Andy. They engaged our inner 10 year old. :D (and you got a kitty - how endearing :))
Really pleasing to look at. Especially from inside. You have a lot of patience to build this. Love it.
This channel is out of this world brilliant. ❤
Thanks very much :)
Totally agree ❤
50 yrs ago I stayed in a waxed cardboard box that was 3 ft 3ft x 10 ft, held up perfectly during a rain storm. But this was in the fall in Germany on a U.S. A. F. Base on the flightline where our Captain told us to seek shelter wherever we could find it, it worked like a champ for an overnight stay. Slept like a baby in it all nite.
I had to stop and make dinner. Watching you cook the steak had my stomach growling. Awesome video 👍
I agree with your comment, “At what point does it become not a cardboard tent?” I would draw the line at using duct tape (acceptable). Once you start with clips and additional waterproofing (which you did NOT do) then it’s no longer a cardboard tent. Good effort!
Definitely a two-man job, if one hopes to avoid all the problems & hiccups you've shown in this [admittedly very fun] video…
I’m pleased to say, by the by, that since last night I have been a new *Subscriber,* and I don’t mind confessing to already being completely addicted to your channel!
Right… Back to my binge-watch of all your vids! 😃🥰❤️
you were very brave !
You are too hard on yourself, it worked for me. Sad that after all your research, planning and construction that it didn't outlast the rain, but your attitude was brilliant and very entertaining. Nothing ventured .... Very impressive work, keep it up xx
Thank you for your efforts and best video content, Andy! Pleasure to watch! Be safe.
Thanks very much, all the best buddy
@@KentSurvival Thank you, all the best to you!

What fun! I love that you come up with these crazy ideas, and stick with them to the end. I don’t mean crazy cuckoo, I mean crazy fun! You are never boring, you work hard, you’re funny, and you are fun to watch!
Thank you 🙏 Andy 🙏💙🇺🇸
As long as you had fun, that's what counts!
I loved this , you worked so hard but even after it started to go wrong you were still smiling . Thank you Andy x
You are my new therapist/ anxiety reliever. Thank you❤
Look up vagus nerve exercises!
I loved your last cardboard video and this one! I adore your humbleness at the end of this video and your determination to try again. Keep, keep going on.
Great idea! ❤ Pretreatment of the cardboard with silicone upholstery spray, waterproofing spray for hunting gear. Possibly even rainX or Thompsons Waterseal. Then use some Flex Tape to seal the edges. 😂❤
This is EXACTLY what makes you 1 ov a Kind & better than the rest! 👍

Maybe better tape or more of it. Or glue the seams before taping. I think that is a neat tent. Why don’t you figure out how to collapse it to fold and carry around. You could paint the parts with tarp. I just think you are so cool to try this to start with. Good luck in the future. I’ll be watching. Sue Reed. Lancaster, PA, USA
