so is the pacer running by "feel" based on experience on the track? I ask because I figured he needs to be near target speed most of the time to avoid surges or slowdowns when he glances at the clock.

Any tips for me? I need to be able to run 1.2 miles in 10.15, I can run it in 12.20 and I e got 6 weeks to do it. Any tips will help.

You need to run many many miles every day. Start out at 40 miles per week, then increase by 10 percent of that distance every week. Also, throw in some short speed workouts on the track
Sahir Pagey dont listen to what the other comment said. Just enjoy the sport for now and if you have a coach maybe ask him/her about what you could do to get better.
Sahir Pagey everyone is different so I would agree with the guy above me and run for fun and use this season as a year to see what your body reacts best to training-wise and go from there.

Olyvia Kiley the thing is he is in middle school, if he starts doing 40 mile weeks he’s gonna get injured and probably stop liking the sport, if he doesn’t get injured he’s gonna burnout sometime down the line. I don’t know enough about him to really tell him what to do that’s why I said listen to your coach.

Man wtf happened to Reed Brown in college this dude ran the 4th fastest sub 4 mile in high school and now he cannot go sub 4 often in college
He already had the time fast enough to qualify for nationals. He was just there to support and pace his teammates. You can see him a bit after 800m trying to encourage his teammate to move up.

why did the person who was leading most of the race stop 400m before the finish?
He was the pacemaker; the person who's there to keep the runners on target for a 4 minute-ish time by encouraging them to keep up with him. Once the last lap rolls round his job is to drop out and let the race conclude.
