      I hope he's the truth. I've been USATF , high school and college coach for over 15 years. High school track doesn't test for any enhancements. Not saying he's on anything but every 4 to 6 years we see a young white child is fast out the blue. During college years they fade off. I've ran with and against the best also saw the best to ever run in high school. 90-97 Cali track and filed off the chain. Let's hope he dose pan out before social media eats him up try to make him the face of sprinting.

      25yrs ago in Kansas my 3a 4x4 team set our school record at 3:26 but last year (24yrs) we got squeezed out by 2 tenths. I'd rather have the 15 seconds. Lol. (1 good rumner & 3 decent)
      4x8 is still holding from '97 though but we beat the 1956 record by 8 seconds so 2 per leg faster. Small area just can't get 4 solid half milers together.

  • @bryanhodges3005

    I have watched this 50 times and I simply can't believe what I just saw. Having run that event in high school I know that to make up 3 seconds against a 47.7 is nearly impossible. You just witnessed the most improbably comeback I have ever seen. It is a phenomenal performance and the courage to push to your limit is not to be taken lightly. Remember he is not racing against someone that is slow. That is the anchor relay man for one of the fastest teams in the country. What you are witnessing is pure athletic ability in the most basic form. These kids are great but watching Matt Boling run is an absolute privileged. I am in awe of it.

I think Ken Norton ( the boxer) won the state meet by himself in Michigan by winning all of the events that he entered.. other “ teams” got incensed by that fact & the Ken Norton rule was made limiting the # of events a person could participate in after that

      @@spidey-tron7827 I know many people like that in other sports. I have seen coaches make offers to a kid they feel presents himself or herself right and obviously ain't the best but has the potential to be one of the best. Lynn went to Kentucky because the coach had been knew of him and knows the coach Lynn used to be under. He also knew many of the players there. So even though many better colleges offered him (I was pissed at OSU waiting so late on their own state talent), he was already fixed on UK. Just an example.

    WR 400 is Van Niekerk at 43.03 and dude ran sub 45? That's pretty close to Olympic final race quality

    • @sweetleaf9668
      @sweetleaf9668 5 ปีที่แล้ว +110

      They are at speed when timing starts due to the running start and exchange of the batons, so not really comparable to a 400m individual WR, however, still super impressive for an 18 yr old.

    • @AO-dx5cd
      @AO-dx5cd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      @@sweetleaf9668 Which is correct, but I don't care what anyone says, batons make a difference. I feel less relaxed/balanced carrying then striding in full swing. Always feels awkward holding something keeping rythm.
      And second, it really doesn't matter that much if you are last leg in a x4. There's already spacing so you pace yourself to the lead. This guy just showed he can go sub 45 if he pushes, imagine more strength, Olympic training, and elite dietary accommodations. Dude is going to be a contender.

    • @sweetleaf9668
      @sweetleaf9668 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@AO-dx5cd Not quite sure your point. I was just stating timing fact differentials. This young man is a phenom indeed. I agree.

    • @AO-dx5cd
      @AO-dx5cd 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@sweetleaf9668 Was stating that sub 45 as a last leg in a x4 actually wouldn't be all that different in times than an individual race.
      Reason why is yes, position to start takes off 0.5-1 sec to get in stride, but so does the spacing already created. Most last legs pace themselves exclusively to the lead rather than focusing on neighboring lanes. Think pack running versus pacing, then kick finishing. If a Lead is out front at the start, the trailing athlete typically turns on their kick energy early, which inevitably slows their finish, where adrenaline demands the rest of your energy. I think the last leg x4 is a pretty similar representation of an individual race, time wise for this reason.

    • @sweetleaf9668
      @sweetleaf9668 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@AO-dx5cd I agree it is impressive, again, however, it isn't a legitimate comparison to current WR individual times in the 400M.There are many who have ran under his split in individual races on the world and collegiate stage. Many have ran better. But still, It is a hell of a split time for any runner in the world, regardless age. I am agreeing with you, except in the comparison. The guy has the natural talent, but isn't world class yet...

    Might be similar to Michael Norman in high school.
    Norman Ran.
    100m: 10.27 with a headwind.
    200m: 20.06
    400m: 45.19. And split 44 on 3 separate occasions on the 4x400 relay in high school.

    • @ericn7186
      @ericn7186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tripleheshy If he can get down to low 44 splits or high 43s in the relay it may happen. The US already has Kerley, Benjamin, Merritt, and Norman. All capable of running 43 second splits.

    • @ericn7186
      @ericn7186 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @tripleheshy It's definitely an exciting time for US track and field. Lyles, Benjamin and Norman. All young and just killing the track and field game. All of them are capable of breaking the current world records in their preferred races. Maybe besides Lyles. Norman will break the 400m record before the Olympics is over. Benjamin will break the 400m hurdle record by the end of the Olympics as well
