Very unfortunate chain of events Andy, so glad that you are OK! That is one of my top scares when riding, along with T bone and people failing to give way on the intersection. As for the channel, the Norway trip is a work of art, I have no idea why people wouldn't like that, it is mesmerizing. I started following you long time ago when you had just couple of hundred followers and never regretted it. Bloody youtube algorithm and the fact that you don't have time to put out regular videos is the key, but you know that already. Can't imagine myself putting that amount of work into videos beside my regular job, I would go nuts. All the best as always and don't loose faith, we need quality content here and you certainly provide it in spades!! Cheers!
I've never really worried about the rear ending risk here. i've never seen or heard of it happening since I've been here. Nearly 10 years now. But just goes to show that just because it didn't happen yet, doesn't mean it won't! Thanks very much for sticking around this long Marko, I'll do my best to keep the chin up and who knows, maybe at some point the machines will notice me!! (too needy?!)
@@AndyManCam Here in this lawless Serbia it's quite common since everybody is staring at their phones while driving. I estimate that about 75% are using them while driving, it's insane. There are laws but nobody is enforcing them unfortunately.
As for sticking around, off course I did, you helped me immeasurably when I had my Versys. :)
You'll get there buddy, just stick with it as long it's fun for you and it's not stressing you out.

Hey Andy, Hello from Canada. I am sorry you got hurt and that you lost your venerable KTM though the self-serving machinations of the insurance industry. How do those kinds of people sleep at night? I am very grateful, however, that you weren't more badly hurt and that you are healing. Too bad country life didn't work out - we've talked about it ourselves - no doubt a very different proposition in Canada - but we remain in the city. TBH i really enjoyed being out of the city, though the town we were in wasn’t the greatest. But hey, happy wife happy life! Hopefully i can find a garage again before the next bike rots to pieces!! 😂

Im going to look at the best way for me, to support your channel will be thanks for posting options, another point , youve taken your time and expense to travel places , produce the videos, maybe at the end of the series, a gentle reminder of the ways we can help like this video would be helpful, as a non youtuber im never sure of how well the people i follow are doing and i like your content and wsnt to support it. Really glad you're more or less in one piece Andy - you're absolutely right about always wearing the gear, worst accident I even had was 50 yards from my front door.. Fascinated to see the next bike, after the 1090 are adventure bikes too adventurous? Are roadsters like th CB too uncomfortable? If the latest Norway trip was good, how about a 690 Enduro and go full TET? Waiting with baited breath.... While I think about it, you make some of the best tour vids around.

That's an update... Very sad to hear someone killed your KTM. I'm glad you're okay-ish. Krankenversicherung as self-employed person can be a pain in the butt. So let's hope you get well soon.

Hi Andy, it’s a similar situation in Australia. I had a similar situation and also with the insurance company and the final agreement was a write off and cash in hand. Although I actually got a bit more than I paid due to inflation.

Glad you're mostly ok at least, and hope your ankle is getting better soon. This is all very relatable to me because my old Vstrom was written off in this way, a rear-end shunt into the car in front, throwing me clear, but in my case they wrote it off as a Cat-N (Non-Structural), so I was able to take the payout, and then buy the bike back from them for the 'value of the wrecked bike', which was like £150 so who wouldn't, and I then spent about 200 quid repairing what needed it, left the fairings a bit tatty and kept riding it while pocketing the rest. Worked out quite nicely in all honesty.
That's exactly the scenario I was expecting! But 6000€ buy back meant only 3500€ payout which made everything seem a lot more like I could end up horribly out of pocket! If they'd said the bike was worth half that, I'd definitely have kept it! The worst part is that I sold the 2 year old Honda for only 600€ more than I got for the 'wrecked' KTM!! 🤯

I had a collet release from one of the valves after doing a head partial rebuild and gaskets. Luckily just one so hopefully the valve is fine. Just managed to reorder the gaskets and head bolts etc, so hoping to be back riding soon too 🤞

This advice is bit like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted but here goes. In '99 I was self employed and had a severe accident, injuries including a pinned triple break in my leg, but I had private insurance covering only my income. This was beyond all the other cover I had ie comprehensive bike cover, credit card cover & mortgage cover. It came via a dangerous sports policy, so activities from riding motorbikes including track days to flying microlites or even rock climbing or cave diving were all covered, but only after a 4 week layoff. This short time was not a problem in itself as it took 8 months to return to work, then continued to pay from day 1 when I had time off a 2nd time for further operations, ie when the pin was removed as it was a continuation of the original claim. ps Thanks Andy for all the Norway video, everyone was enjoyed
Nevertheless, it is good advice. I have to sort something out of this nature, especially if I'm serious about spending more time on the bike making videos. Annoyingly, I had a feature like that on my last insurance. But when I switched to the KTM, they more than doubled my policy. So I switched, lost the accident cover and then a month later the original insurance told me that they'd made an error and my policy should have been LESS with the KTM! But by then, it was too lat as I was in a new contract! When bureaucracy goes wrong!

Hamburg is one of my favourite cities, after spending the best part of a year working there.
I was staying in St Pauli just a 5 minute walk from the stadium and the Reeperbahn (always good for an Irish bar) and Sunday mornings at the fish Markt.
I stayed over one night while on my way to Denmark (more work) and thought I would call in to one of the pubs that me and my flat mate used to frequent after work sometimes, only to find that they have knocked the place down. It was the shamrock on Feldstrasse, have to say they’re a sadness in my heart.

Very nice! that's really the kicking party centre! I've worked on the reeperbahn a few times and always found it funny walking to work at 7am on a Saturday. The place was like the set of a zombie film! 😅

Thank you for posting. Glad you survived mostly unscathed. Insurance issues in Germany are certainly complicated. A few years ago, I was the victim of a hit and run (obviously not my fault). Took the bike to the shop. Shop sent estimate to insurance company (> $9000). Insurance approved it. End of story. The longest wait was waiting for parts (in the midst of covid). Oh man, I was getting my phone ready to scan, when you said condoms only for you to correct yourself. Dang. ;) Again, glad to hear you are doing better and can't wait to see your next bike.
My pleasure! Glad your case was straightforward. I think that in theory it can be the same here. In fact I could have just sent the bike to the shop and had them repair everything on the list. Though if the frame was bent, I bet they'd put up a fight for the extra charges. But I just though that with that, I'm left with a bike that has been messed about and ultimately is worth less than in the beginning (forever recorded as an insurance repair). So I went for the option to start over so obviously some of the complication is my own fault. The dodgy assessment and the flaky lawyers are the bits that get my goat though!
But never mind, onwards and upwards and new bikes make everything better!

That is some pain in the hoop. Glad you're ok anyway that's the main thing. Just came from the Tuareg video to see what happened to the KTM! Also that dealership in the Tuareg video is a bloody joke.

@@AndyManCamif you’re anything like I imagine you to be you’d drop all this nonsense the minute you stop enjoying it. You’re not doing this for money and it shows, that’s your weapon, it really is. As you said, you don’t want to start the video with sponsored by this or that. It puts a lot of us off when that happens. For one I’ve dropped many a subscription just for that, it starts to feel like the enjoyment is being given second seat and the content provider is only looking at keeping the channel going with hunting for the secret of how the algorithm works on TH-cam. Keep the niche you’ve created with dedicated subscribers who are always waiting for your next video and I’m sure more will follow. You remind me of a Canadian rock group, Rush. You’ve got their essence in believing in what you’re doing, are very capable and want to soldier on. They’re loved by many and so will you.

Sad news about the ktm, all that fannying around with the insurance and sick pay over there sounds like a right pain in the arse.
On the plus side, the quality of the Norway series is outstanding, visually it's stunning ( I guess we can thank Slartibartfast for some of that 😂), the editing is absolutely top notch and the chat between you and Ian is hilarious. Thanks for all the hard work you are putting into the channel
Thanks very much Jason (and Mr. Bartfast!). It is all a pain in the arse indeed! The most annoying bit is having to sell the bike myself and deal with all the tyre kicking and question asking that you'd hope not to have to deal with after an accident! Thankfully buying a new bike can always be made exciting, but sadly the test ride procedure is like pulling teeth here in germania too! But you'll see some of that in the first test ride video!!
What a bummer, Andy, but luckily you only sustained a minor injury.
The same thing happened to me in 1988 on my Kawasaki GP1100B2. The damage was minimal but the other chap didn't want to involve his insurance company so I had a free hand to add a few extra titbits to the cost.

Sorry to hear about your accident, Andy! I got similar happen to me over a decade ago right outside my parents house. Pretty much the same outcome with the bike, though I did get a fairly good payout for the back injury I got, even if it wasn't as much as it should've been (long story like it usually is)..

Exactly how my GS died in 2010! Rear ended at a four way stop, no injuries. On the upside I then got a Multistrada 1200s .....! Very glad you are ok!

If it comes to the aftermath of an accident, step up for your rights and make your choices on assessors, lawyers etc. Do not rely on the opponent's insurance. Those guys know how to save (their) money😠. Especially in your situation as an self employed...
But am cheering your good mood: Carry on with the work on this channel. And banging the drum to support is more than justified. You and your channel deserve that attention.BTW support: Did you ever thought of creating wish lists as well? Aside from BMAC this could be an opportunity in getting stuff needed.

Thanks very much Adam. It seemed odd to me too! In the UK, they pretty much take the bike away and deal with everything. You either get a cheque, a repaired bike or the damaged bike and a smaller cheque! For me, the bike had to sit outside my flat for the whole time until somebody came and bought it. Weird.

Without going into detail I had same thing happen to me in Nuremberg, dented one GS rocker cover, I rang him from and he paid for a new one. Luckily cover didn't leak and continued my trip to Alps.

But so glad you were not more seriously injured 🤕 Regarding insurances, all insurances love getting your money, a good insurance is only tested in the circumstances you went through. For the bike, I would bet for another adv bike (especially if you got all the bits and pieces back, so with a chain too 😉). Looking forward for the two coming days vids 🤗.

Cheers YP. It almost certainly is, but I’m very much enjoying finding out that I can pretty much ride an ADV bike as fast in the road as i can any road bike I’ve been on! So hopefully not too much will change, just less moaning about discomfort and creaky knees!

Thanks HB. Yeah that's the direction I'm leaning in. I've ridden loads in the last year or two and they've just impressed me massively. The KTM was an utter pleasure to have, over 4000 km of Norway this spring and then the Desert X was an utter joy on Gran Canaria, despite no off road and incredible tight twisties.

I've driven a half million miles in my lifetime. Yes, I'm old. I had one accident. A woman plowed into the back of my car because she didn't want to stop at a Yield sign on her way to the mall. It's an Action 4 on the helmet and an Action 3 on the bars. I reallly like them and have actually decided to go 100% with DJI and ditch Gopro.
@@AndyManCam yeah seems to nothing but good about the dji's and a lot of folk switching, so still adventure type, can't see you going full on adventure/dirt with a 21/18 wheel set up so that rules out the middle weights like T7 etc plus you like to give it some pasty as you say so possibly a multistrada if going exotic or if staying japanese maybe a more road focused tracer 9 as I remember you liked that when you test rode it plus I think your a bit of a yamaha fanboy... lol.. im maybe way off, guess we'll find out soon enough, will look forward to the reveal...

Firstly bad luck mate, glad you’re not seriously hurt. I do feel the very long gaps between vids has an adverse affect on viewing figures especially a tour series. I personally wouldn’t mind it dumbed down a little technically if that doesn’t insult the artiste in you 😂. Anyway mend soon. I’ve liked and re- subscribed. 👍
Thanks Chris. It's so obvious that it really kills the momentum. We're on the same page with technical. The last 2 trips have been dumbed right down and although I haven't started editing them yet, the experience itself was so much more relaxing, rewarding and enjoyable, which I'm certain can't help but to come across in the footage as I was worrying about the riding and not about the tech!

Oh no. I had already grown attached to your KTM. Glad you are okay though besides your foot. Rough to hear about the insurance. Pay these people under the illusion that they will bail you out if you have trouble only for them to not hold their end of the bargain when it is time to. Wonder what the new bike is going to be. I am planning on getting a new bike myself within a week or so. Likely to be a Versys.

I'm afraid I'm definitely bitten by the ADV bug. It doesn't need to be full off road, but an XR is just a bit too road focused (and too much for my budget!).
