      I have killed 2 animals. A deer and a hog with right bevel and left feathers. Both complete pass thru and watched both animals go down. The difference was you don't get the twisting s cut that you would. The opposing twist dynamics basically make it like a double bevel and normal cut. So it's do able and works but you loose the value of the single bevel.

    Excellent video and explanation of why you prefer left wing feathers 🪶. I myself am left eye dominate or cross dominate since I am right handed.
    I currently don’t have a traditional bow yet but plan on getting one as you know. I want to start building my arrows for both my compound and my takedown recurve or longbow. I want to do a helical instead of just the small straight blazer vanes that come on factory vaned arrows.
    I have not tested to see which way that a bare shaft comes off my bow to see which direction that I need to go, both in vane helical direction and bevel side. But I will definitely do that after I order some new arrow shafts.
    Thanks 🙏 for sharing this and your perspective. 🏹🦌🦃

    Compound shooter here but enjoyed the video. I've been on somewhat of a arrow tuning journey this season. My bow liked 200 grains up front so I got some VPA double bevels, then some Cutthroat single bevels, and I'm waiting for January to come, that's when the Abowyer 200 grain single bevels are to be back in stock. I determined with a bare shaft my bow shoots a right rotation so I'm shooting 3" right wing helical feathers and right wing single bevels. Enjoy your channel!

      @SamkoTradBow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you are taking the tuning to next level stuff. Love it. You are gonna have some amazing arrows! I love the abowyer heads too. Plan to order a couple dozen more when they are available again.

    I’m trying to get into bow shooting and bow hunting. I just bought a 50 pound Sanlida Royal X8 recurve and 31 inch, 300 spine arrows. 29.5 inch draw. Heavy pull, I know, but I’m a strong guy and have won powerlifting competitions, etc. I ordered 300 grain field points to practice and had plans of ordering 300 grain VPA 3 blade broadheads, but am now thinking single bevel 2 blade is better. 300 grain VPA broadheads. Am I on the right track?

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @llamawizard those vpa 3 blades are amazing and you are definitely pushing enough power to use them. But no denying a 2 blade penetration is better. But 3 blades leave a bigger y slice hole

    Concerning Fletching: They look like the 'slashes' on the keyboard. Left offset-helical (from the bottom to top) goes from right to left \. Right offset-helical goes from left to right /.

    If I ever get back to shooting traditional, as a lefty I’ll for sure keep this in mind. What’s interesting is that the considerations with compound bows are completely different. From what I understand, the direction of string serving is what determines the direction of arrow rotation right off the bow, and most strings are served so that the arrow will start off rotating to the left. So you’d think you’d want left wing feathers and a matching left bevel broadhead. There’s a downside, though. I haven’t shot an animal with a single bevel yet, either, but it’s hard enough pulling my right bevel Kudu out of my 3D target as it is. They definitely continue to rotate on impact with a target. So with the opposing rotation of a left bevel head that would tend to unscrew my head, I don’t want that. I already have one old glue on Zwicky in my 3D somewhere as it is lol.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You are correct on the possibility of a left bevel unscrewing a bit. Would never unscrew all the way on a shot. Bit I put blue locktite on mine to prevent that. Still easily removd but wound happen on impact.

    There's some anecdotal evidence that placing the cock feather at the 12 o'clock position instead of the 3/9 o'clock position when shooting is more accurate. Supposedly the quill of the lower feather will now move through the angle created where the shelf meets the riser instead of contacting the shelf in a normal "cock feather out" configuration. I tried this but noticed no real change in accuracy. That said, I am still an amateur trad shooter so maybe someone with more experience can chime in. It would however, eliminate the problem of the right wing feather hitting your nose.

    • @SamkoTradBow
      @SamkoTradBow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With feathers if your arrow is tuned well yoy can put the feathers at any angle you want to thw bow and it will still work the same. The feathers fold down when they pass the shelf and a well tuned arrow the feather base should be out away from the bow in paradox as it passes the riser.
      But I still don't like right wing feathers as a left handed shooter. Feels weird, looks weird, etc. Been shooting left all my life and like the left wing. But I for sure appreciate the idea and info to try and make a situation better for me. Thank you very much!

    A single bevel broadhead will create a wound channel just about as big as a four blade double bevel because of the design. Also they seem a lot stronger being one solid piece! That's why I wanna try them so much. Just as big wound channel with much more bone crushing strength as well just because of the design and them being tougher. I'm going out in few hours and gonna shoot a magnus stinger which is a four blade because of the bleeder blades, but would love to try just a single bevel that is one solid bone crushing bullet like broadhead!

    If I understand you correctly your diagram shows the opposite of what you explained in the video about which way the arrow will rotate based on the angle of the fletching. Wouldn't the left "L" in your diagram rotate the arrow right and visa versa with the right "L" would rotate the arrow left? Please clarify. Thanks.

    Probably left wings were more available just because of the idea of rolling away from the bow. most people shoot right hand off the left side of the bow so that idea says left wing is best for most shooters. I agree that idea makes no sense. Man they must have waisted a lot of right wing feathers for no reason.
