I did the "oven method" back in 2010, and it fixed my YLOD. The only downside was i melted the PC speaker. No big loss. Worked fine for years after that!
I think using heat to reflow is only good for getting data off a PS3 that isn't worth repairing. The harddrive on the system is encrypted and reflowing should keep it working long enough to get the data off the console
I agree with @PatSmashYT. I did a heat/reflow on my first phat PS3 back in the day. I got a week out of it, until I got the YLOD again. So I did it one more time and just got my games off of it and got a PS3 slim and called it a day.
another great video, one of these days the algorithm is going to blow up your channel. These types of videos are awesome to watch and great to leave a few things about PS3 repair thanks.
I remembered putting a FAT PS3 in an entertainment desk to play FFX. After about an hour it shut down and it had that YLOD after that. Called Sony up and paid about $100 for them to get the PS3 to them, fix it and sent it back to me in about a week. That was about 2012. These days PS3 are super cheap that many times I get a YLOD PS3 for about $10 each so I got 12 for a discounted $100. From the 8 that I tried 6 of them worked using the heat gun going around the CPU and GPU area for 3 minutes. I tested it a few months later and it still works. This is just for fun and learning. I was told the proper way to fix this YLOD is to use a multi-meter to check which is the problem chip and replace that. I don't have that patience or currently have that skillset so can't go that route.
Wait until you find out there's people who still reflow 360s. I know this way too well, since I've had to stock on Jasper and revised Xenons because every chump and their mom thought it was a good idea to blast their GPUs (and sometimes I'd find the CPUs caked in flux too!) with some Leroy-Merlin/Home-Depot/Mom und Pops Storen heatgun at 300 degrees. Worst was when some idiot insisted for a reflow when I clearly told him IT WOULDN'T LAST AS FAR AS A MINUTE. He was a firm believer on reflows, until I showed him that his own method had failed him. Thankfully his board was a 2007 Falcon. Had him pay twice the price of a Jasper mobo just because he was stubborn, and to learn a lesson on wasting people's time with a reflow.

@@ConsoleKingRepair Yeah, most people in the town I live would very much dump a ton into reflowing/reballing chips that are well known to fail. I used a beam heater on a ps3 that has rsx bump gate issue from a syscon error read. It did turn on again enough to put CFW and fan control. It had two bad nec tokens that were replaced. It also needed to be delid because it was getting up to 80C with a game and 60% fan speed. Added a 3D printed plug and get 63C with ps2 games and 69C (nice) on 55% fan playing TLOU. Also replaced the 15 bladed fan with a 19 bladded fan. It has 512 days of use and going strong. With replacing NEC it is fixed but not long terms. For proper repair RSX needs to be replaced with one for super slim models. Aka "frankenstain mod". As i remember fat use 65nm and super slim is 28nm.
the 65nm RSX doesn't fail that often, especially the later ones. you're probably thinking of the 90nm chip found in the early backwards compatible models.
could just get a new ps3 for like $20 instead of fixing it
Step 1 trow your ps3 in the trash
I remember following the oven method got it to turn back on 😂 however remember it stank up the oven tho
Same with my ps3 slim lol
I was told that if you use the oven for the motherboard or gpu you should not use that oven to cook food again. That is the reason why I went to a Goodwill and got a cheap toaster oven for $10 to try it out a few times for curiosity 😀.
