For me, this ranks as Megadeths greatest ever composition. It may not have the aggressiveness of other Megadeth songs from Rust In Peace/Peace Sells but its unrivalled imo in the way its layered and structured from its Hard Rock opening to its Thrash Metal ending after the 'I walk alone into the promised land' lyrics. Its a gem of a track in what is a really underappreciated album.
I was a huge megadeth fan, listened to their whole discography and listened solely to megadeth everyday. Then I moved to dream theatre and king crimson and got addicted to the complex structures and deep meaning of the lyrics. In that stage I got bored with every megadeth song except this one. Is also one of my favourite songs of all time to (try) play on the guitar.

I saw Megadeth in concert for the first time in February 2016 at the Warfield in San Francisco. The reaction they get from the crowd when they play this song is just unreal. It's an amazing song in its original studio format but it's on a completely different level when they perform it live.

For real, For this I wouldnt really want something trying to be tuned to a pitch, In my (PERSONAL OPINION) I think when everythings perfect then it kinda becomes boring a bit, the fact that daves voice is all natural and hes just doing his best, is good enough for me and in a way, IS Perfect
This is how I discovered Megadeth. The documentary was called "Decline of Western Civilization Part 2" In my darkest hour, was featured on the soundtrack and movie. It had people like Ozzy, W.A.S.P. etc. and it was this song, that got me interested in Megadeth.
I was there it was filmed in Reseda CA at the Country Club . They stopped filming and told the audience that the stage diving was going to be in an orderly fashion from one side of the stage can see and my buddy in the scene multiple times ,diving from the stage , good times
@@MrBilld75 Fun time growing up in the scene back in its infancy , lotta cool memories , if you get the chance watch the first movie Penelope did on the underground music scene ",Decline of the western civilization " part 1 the punk years ,
Absolutely one of the greatest examples on how to construct a straight up metal track. The change up of pace halfway through and then the way they bring the clean picking resolve back in to finish the song. Awesome. Listening through headphones 🎧 the production is huge sounding too.
music today cannot have this much style, because there is too much electronic-computerized -FAKE music going around. THIS music is produced--not programmed.
2:46 , I literally love that very small clip of the bros in the moshpit man. The smiling, knowing shits boutta get down. Im 17 right now and I wish I was in that pit to lose my mind. Those stops and trills that Dave does gets you going.

Gabi Francis yes he was, they were in New York getting ready to record Kill Em All when they sent Dave home. They picked up Kirk and the lineup was set
@@gabifrancis7414 That explains it. I'd bet anything that Cliff would have argued in Dave's defense, and encouraged him to try to tame his ways enough. As it is, he's done plenty of remarkable, substantial and hella cool music that wouldn't exist as it is with any other group of musicians.
then why is there this interview of Cliff talking about him? "I don't think about them (Megadeth) too much. Dave talks a lot about us and other people which has a tendency to make me biased towards what he's doing so I can't really listen to what he's doing with an open mind because he's too busy talking shit."
Can you imagine the music Metallica could have made if Dave didn't have an ego. Kill em all is still my favorite album, I didn't even know Dave was in Metallica until years after listening to Metallica. My first two albums I ever bought were cassettes, master of puppets and count down to extinction. It's crazy I feel in love with the music these guys were playing.
A lot of ppl get fucked up in the video lol, this is an 80s megadeth concert ffs.. Look at that chick that jumps right at the end, the crowd catchers her, then the dude jumps right on top of her and everyone goes to the floor lol.

Y'all I got a story that makes me come to this song every time I think of it. So, I'm a 14 year old girl in 8th grade, and I told my best friend (I'll call her Lucy)I had a crush on somebody in my grade. (I'll call him Chris) Lucy promised me she wouldn't tell anybody. Well one day when I was at lunch alone, her and our friend I'll call Nick came up to me. Nick said that he was gonna tell Chris that I liked him. I told him not to but of course he did anyway. When Nick got back from telling him, he said that Chris told him I was ugly and no one would ever like me. Well, Lucy kinda chuckled when he said that. Well later in our E-SPORTS practice as I was still visibly sad about it, I was sitting next to her when she was changing the name of one of her contacts. I told her to rename him "Jackie Chan" as a joke, because the guy kinda looked like if Jackie Chan was a 14 year old. She said no and had the AUDACITY to change the name to "Sweetheart ❤" She then laughed at my shocked/hurt face. This happened 2 months ago, and I still cry about it. That was the first time I liked anyone, and it absolutely broke my heart. Thank you Dave and everyone else in Megadeth for helping me during that time.
Guys, it's really not rocket science. The MUSIC (the riffs, solos, etc) were written because of Cliff's death. The LYRICS are about Mustaine's at the time girlfriend
I grew up with Dave M. And I'm now 50 and I'm still loyal and dedicated to Megadeth and they still are One of the best heaviest bands Ever. Thanks Dave.
Mid 40's and went to Megadeth here in Dublin few years back. Thought the crowd would be all 30 and 40 somethings reliving our youth but no, good 60% of the crowd were teenagers and 20 somethings. Can't think of genre other than metal where old bands still attract a young audience, but anyway, time has taken it's toll on me, my days of stage diving and moshing I left back in the late 80's and early 90's, so I was just chillin on the precipice of the crowd, enjoying the young crowd go nuts to In My Darkest Hour's gear change mid song, wishing I was young again so I could join them when a bunch of young scamps shoved a bunch of us 40 somethings right into the thick of things... and there was there was no escape. It was either join with the mosh pit shenanigans or dislocate a hip... so for one last time I joined in and for 90 seconds or so I almost felt young again.
This song has everything briilant grooving riffs very nuanced but incredibly effective. I love before the second verse the choice of lyrics and the delivery coming back into the groove of the song. Brilliant
One of the greatest metal songs ever written and recorded, in my humble opinion. When a song can make you headbang, get pissed, and want to cry and tell your family how much you love them all at the same time....you got something special.

Now, as I die for you,
My flesh still crawls as I breathe your name
All these years, thought I was wrong,
Now I know it was you
Raise you head, raise your face, your eyes,

There's a better place for me
But it's far, far away

In a perfect world
But I got to die first,
Please God send me on my way
Time has a way of taking time
Loneliness is not only felt be fools
Alone, I call to ease the pain,
Yearning to be held by you
Alone, so alone, I'm lost,
Consumed by the pain
The pain, the pain, the pain
Won't you hold me again
You just laughed, ha-ha, you bitch
My whole life is work built on the past,
The time has come when all things shall pass,
This good thing passed away

Rock/Metal kept me going through my darkest hours. It’s been a long long road but finally there is hope.
God bless guys, a million thanks
Mustaine's voice is one of a kind. No one will ever could sing like him
@Dave Scott Mustaine tf
@@Pasquale-wl6kj 😂
For real, For this I wouldnt really want something trying to be tuned to a pitch,
In my (PERSONAL OPINION) I think when everythings perfect then it kinda becomes boring a bit,
the fact that daves voice is all natural and hes just doing his best, is good enough for me and in a way, IS Perfect
Just like Lemmy
Much agreed, there's a lot of hetfield clones out there but Mustaine's voice is unique just like Ozzy's.
This is how I discovered Megadeth. The documentary was called "Decline of Western Civilization Part 2" In my darkest hour, was featured on the soundtrack and movie. It had people like Ozzy, W.A.S.P. etc. and it was this song, that got me interested in Megadeth.

Absolutely one of the greatest examples on how to construct a straight up metal track. The change up of pace halfway through and then the way they bring the clean picking resolve back in to finish the song. Awesome. Listening through headphones 🎧 the production is huge sounding too.
Such a deep song. RIP Cliff wish music today had this much style
music today cannot have this much style, because there is too much electronic-computerized -FAKE music going around. THIS music is produced--not programmed.
but its not about Cliff...
Dave wrote the song after he heard about the death of Cliff Burton
2:46 , I literally love that very small clip of the bros in the moshpit man. The smiling, knowing shits boutta get down. Im 17 right now and I wish I was in that pit to lose my mind. Those stops and trills that Dave does gets you going.

Cliff Burton was one of Dave's best friends even after Dave got kicked out of Metallica.
and Cliff was not there when Dave was kicked out
Gabi Francis yes he was, they were in New York getting ready to record Kill Em All when they sent Dave home.

In my hour of need
Ha you're not there
And though I reached out for you
Wouldn't lend a hand
Through the darkest hour
Grace did not shine on me
It feels so cold, very cold
No one cares for me
Did you ever think I get lonely
Did you ever think that I needed love
Did you ever think to stop thinking
You're the only one that I'm thinking of
You'll never know how hard I tried
To find my space and satisfy you too
Things will be better when I'm dead and gone
Don't try to understand, knowing you I'm probably wrong
But oh how I lived my life for you
Still you'd turn away
Now as I die for you
My flesh still crawls as I breathe your name
All these years I thought I was wrong
Now I know it was you
Raise your head raise your face your eyes
Tell me who you think you are, who ?
I walk, I walk alone
Into the promised land
There's a better place for me
But it's far, far away
Everlasting life for me
In a perfect world
But I gotta die first

This is the true Megadeth, amazing song in the 80s!
I had the same thing happen to me
It'll get better. ❤

R.I.P
