He will get more credit when he passes. Cause sadly people seem to notice/respect/give more credit to people once they are dead, instead of when they were alive to actually hear it all...
Dimebag was AWESOME at setting up his songs to have it all come together at the end for a HEAVY fkn riff that FEELS just groovy and perfect. I always keep them going cause its soooo fun to play after waiting for the whole song.
This song will always hold a special place in my heart. This was my dad's favorite album he would always play it in the car no matter where we were going. He passed away 8 years ago but I keep that CD in my car. Every time i put on CD #5 I get chills from the opening of this song.
Stevie Vehorn Also they only made videos so their songs would appear on places like MTV2 and other crap, so they could become better known. The video quality wasn't the point in this, or many other 80's-early 90's metal bands.
This tune was part of my youth. I was a teenager when it was first released, and I still remember it as a gig which set the standard for the generation of rock bands that flourished in the 90s. But we should point out that Pantera imposed the Power Metal genre within rock music, and that's why the band has become so popular ever since.
I saw this band with anthrax and coal chamber. The police in the arena were trying to keep things under control but gave up when pantera hit the stage and dominated
@@Rick-jz1vs Lucky you Rick who have seen best awesome damn best killer Heavy Metal Band ever of all time.. PANTERA live 🤘🔥🤘unfortunally I haven't seen them playing live.. Long Live Phil Amselmo & best kickass badass killer Heavy Metal Band of All time.. Pantera Forever.. Hell Yeah 🤘😎🎸💯🔥🤘 Keep Metal 🤘 👍
There's only one reason the era of classic metal spans into the 90s and that reason is because of Pantera. When metal was on the decline as popular metal bands faced decline in popularity and/or quality, Pantera injected the genre with new blood with this album, saving it and giving it another time in the spotlight as grunge was on the rise.
@@moeburn the thing about Nirvana was that Curt Cobane was the posterboy for grunge and he absolutely hated fame and did nothing but outrageous antics to get him more attention. Now was he being coy and secretively loving it or did he absolutely hate it? Now to address the grunge/metal conflict. As was metioned metal was on its way out and rock needing resuscitation grunge was what gave it new life. Raw, unpolished, and different ppl saw it as degrading to metal bc the simplistic riffs and arrangements and repetitive vocals that had no substance (imo) Yes there's nothing wrong with grunge if you want to trade in your 1972 454 SS Chevelle for a gas saving Prius.
They reformed recently, though no signs of new release but there is plenty of great new music. You just have to search for it harder. My personal recommendations for new, exciting music - Skinflint, Snowy Shaw, Rezet, Sons of Apollo, Melted Bodies, Avatar, Gunslingers, Compressorhead, Idles, Tengger Cavalry , Bloodywood, The Hu, Igorrr, Shining (Norway), Poppy, Nova Twins, Al-Namrood, Spiritbox, Plaag Also, there’s been many great releases from established artists. Judas Priest, Machine Head, Korn, Metallica… even Arthur Brown, yes, the guy who made “Fire” back in 1968, now 80 years old, released new album this year, surprisingly great.
This is one of the best education subject I will teach to my children. The power of the heavy metal music that can UNITE all culture, race, beliefs and nationality. Brothers because of Heavy Metal, and we may all start from PANTERA.

I will never forgot the night he died. I was in my apartment in college and my brothers friend had went to the show. He was watching from the very back. My brother and I had a party earlier at our place and we had passed out. He came pounding on our door at 2am crying hysterically! What a sad day for Music. What a legend. 🤘
I was freshman in college. My friend in the dorm next door his AOL screen name was DimeWyllde or something like that. He didn't leave his room all day. My fave band Umphreys McGee covered this song the next night in Boston and I played it for him and he said thanks I needed that.
Pantera not only saved metal but reinvented it. They didn't get the respect they deserve. Watched the metal documentary and the 90s came up and no mention of them. Also they talk about the big 4 or great 8 well Pantera was 1 and above them all. RIP St Dime and Vinny Paul. Stronger than all forever 🤘⚡🐍👑🔥😈🤠💚💥
I still can't ever get past when I was just a freshman high school and PanterA changed my life FOREVER!!!! I mean ugh having to grow K-8th in Baptist School but never fitting in as I just never bought into any of the popular trends, or felt the void filled! Then one day 2002 in September This Music Video came on middle of the night and I saw and HEARD the greatest just EVERYTHING! And I was just His solo on this song I imagine it had the same effect on so many others! But I had to get Vulgar Display Of Power! And I finally had that void not just filled but sealed with PRIMAL CONCRETE SLEDGE! And I just while too young to have seen PanterA live, I was getting my news from the metal Magazines! And then as Damageplan was getting up going Darrell and Vinnie Hosted this show and I was just... Two brothers, Two DemiGods, Two of the greatest Musicians and well Who didn't have Darrell and Vinnie somewhere on their wall growing up! These two brothers were bigger than any others! The Abbotts even put those Romulus&Remus to shame as Power Groove is so beyond words! I got tickets to see Damageplan and while so young so excited! When I arose December 9th, 2004 I was in shock as details hadn't been completely out but at first when I learned It was a just... No words, I know everyone was the same as it just couldn't be! But It just 20 years... I only December 8th as a day of just celebrating the Life and Impact And the Fun Dime brought to our world! Dime and Vinnie are Eternal!!! THANK YOU FOR IGNITING THE FIRE IN ME, FOR BEING A MASSIVE INFLUENCE ON RAISING ME, AND FOR EVERYTHING! I along with every last one you both turned into another Cowboy From Hell... I know you both are together and the descendants you left are in the millions! Everyone who also is a COWBOY FROM HELL in unity... We are bonded through this perfection of Power Groove Metal! Everyone stay safe this holiday season and Getcha Pull for how These Brothers changed your life! Thank you so so much!!! \m/ forever!
"cemetery gates" too, "5 minutes alone" and "Hollow". All are great classics, it's a fucking shame 80-90's metal fans are a dying generation. I was born 00! And I am grateful as fuck that my brother showed me Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold, Sabaton, Black Sabbath to name a few ( Metallica and Megadeth too ) without him i wouldn't be the person I am and i would probably br listening to 1D and Justin Beiber. Metal will stand tall!
Oh you like WWE too, how nice! Although I prefer to watch UFC. Yeah the only thing our generation can do to stay alive is keep listening and trying to introduce it to our future kids or try to get our friends into it. I hope to god that metal never dies! Nothing beats metal.
I'm so glad my mom put walk on in the car so much when I was like 3 in about 2007. Because of that I would go back and listen for nostalgia realizing it's friggin amazing. I was a metal head before I even knew it! And I've heard that I would sit in front of a fireplace and start singing walk. I don't remember that but I know if my sister does that I'm going to laugh my butt off
when i was about seven, i would sit upstairs listening to smoke on the water all day whilst my sister was downstairs with the top 40, and my dad would play maiden songs on his old radio... now i like brutal deathcore music. its great how little things can expose you to so much...
This is one of the hardest riffs I could never quite play properly......It's like you have give everything you've got, but that was Diamond Darrel...he poured just pure energy into his playing, never heard anyone else like him.
One thing that I like about Pantera, their tracks always sounded like a band....can hear the bass, in instrumental breaks, solos. Sometimes no backing guitar tracks at all. Not like a crappy studio release.
They play at fools get togethers...meet them with a handful of fist....ill rock your punk ass up so bad you'll need to explain to yo boy why it wasnt a suprise party... i dont care but nothing fuck your hateful selves up...glue your foolish mouth shut....you know personally you i aint playing games....
Checking in on July 2024. Saw them live at Polaris Easton, Columbus Ohio. Second row. My ears hurt so much I had to cover my ears with my palms til the second joint passed down the row. Fantastic concert. Best one in my life (followed by Lemmy and Black Sabbath playing on OSU Campus in a local-famous dive bar.) Their energy was off the charts, and being so close was mind blowing.
Pantera was visionary in the music industry and way ahead of their time. Here we are exactly thirty years later, and their music has preserved well. The sound is as if freshly composed today. For those unaware, Pantera not only paved the way for mainstream Punk Metal, but also created the sub-genre known today as Groove Metal. 🤘 In my opinion, a sub-genre far greater than either independent genre - metal or punk. Any 'true' Music Enthusiast of that time experienced the proverbial, "Whoa!! Who the (beep) was that!?!?!" moment. That is, upon the initial15 sec of hearing a Pantera song for the first time. Much love and respect to Phil, Dime, Rex, & Vinnie. 🤘
Well, I'm not from that time but when I heard this song for the first time I went exactly like you described😂. I was expecting a purely thrash metal song, but the glam/hair metal influences got to me right when the first riff came out. It sounds like Van Halen or Motley Crue if they listened to Slayer more often, and of course, I love it.🤘
Rex has such an awesome stage presence, phils vocals took this band to a new level. Nothing wrong with the 2 musicians that are filling in for dime & vinnie. I gotta see this new version of Pantera while they're on tour!

It has been 30 years since Cowboys From Hell was released.
ahhh yes I remember////I got the album on cassette in 1990 I was 16 years old and great memories///I saw them in 94 on there far beyond driven tour
30 years, and nobody has yet to make a song more likely to make me push the accelerator pedal harder than this song. This song just gets the blood flowing!
Crazy. Time FLIES!
Thanks for reminding me that I’m old.
And still a fuckiing bad Ass
Pure fucking metal 🤘🏼 unfiltered, uncut, uncensored and in your face, Rest In Paradise Dimebag and Vinnie Paul and thank you.
💔
My brother played this for me when I was 10, and I immediately fell in love. I honestly thought Pantera where a band of dudes that where bounty hunters or the Punisher,” cowboys from hell”? “We’re taking over this town?” My tiny mind EXPLODED!
Now I’m old and still mess up my neck every time I hear Pantera. Thanks Brother.
This song had aged like wine, it only became better. Years later and it's still one of the best songs ever written.
This album can't be hated. It's a perfect album.
I agree it's fucking perfect from front to back
Rex dont get enough credit he is amazing on bass
To say the least. Heaviest bass line in metal. If John Paul Jones was zepplins secret weapon Rex is a nuke
Sad thing is; if he was in Metallica, Lars would’ve mixed him out while being a pretentious douche
The guy with the red hat Are there great metal/rock bands without a great rhythm section?
Rex is awsomesause but Rex + Vinnie was pure eff'in magic
He will get more credit when he passes. Cause sadly people seem to notice/respect/give more credit to people once they are dead, instead of when they were alive to actually hear it all...
Dimebag was AWESOME at setting up his songs to have it all come together at the end for a HEAVY fkn riff that FEELS just groovy and perfect. I always keep them going cause its soooo fun to play after waiting for the whole song.
This song will always hold a special place in my heart. This was my dad's favorite album he would always play it in the car no matter where we were going. He passed away 8 years ago but I keep that CD in my car. Every time i put on CD #5 I get chills from the opening of this song.
this album special whit me and my dad too! hope you good fr justenjoy the music🕊🕊

Rest In Peace. Maybe one day I’ll blast the heck out of Pantera when I have my own car in the future. Just recentl became a fan.

My mom headbangs to this song. My Mom is 65

My nans the one who told me to play this and she is currently a cancer patient aged 71 and still loves bangers like this 😂
Nice
My mom showed me this song. lol im 25.
I'm a couple of years behind her. Nice to have company.
back when concerts were so badass all you needed to do was film one to make a music video.
That's one hell of an observation... so true.
Stevie Vehorn Also they only made videos so their songs would appear on places like MTV2 and other crap, so they could become better known. The video quality wasn't the point in this, or many other 80's-early 90's metal bands.
Stevie Vehorn They still film concerts to make music videos bruh
Awchshonear Not very well
Isaiah Steele How not very well?
This tune was part of my youth. I was a teenager when it was first released, and I still remember it as a gig which set the standard for the generation of rock bands that flourished in the 90s. But we should point out that Pantera imposed the Power Metal genre within rock music, and that's why the band has become so popular ever since.
This song turns 33 years today! Will always be my best song to imagine kicking ass.

HELL YEAH! NEVER TOO OLD TO ROCK!
me 19 years old (now 46) on a pantera concert. all i remember is alcohol, sweat, blood and a lot of fun
You know what makes good music? When it becomes timeless. 25 years later and it's just as good as the day it was released
How dare you mention grunge on a Pantera comment section.
I agree! I'm 52 and just stumbled on to this because back in the day I had already given up on metal.
It was my loss because I really dig this.
there's nothing wrong with grunge, don't be a metalhead stereotype looking down on every other genre. i like this and I like Nirvana.
Raw, unpolished, and different ppl saw it as degrading to metal bc the simplistic riffs and arrangements and repetitive vocals that had no substance (imo)
Yes there's nothing wrong with grunge if you want to trade in your 1972 454 SS Chevelle for a gas saving Prius.
@@moeburn same here. nirvana kicks ass
Never gets old or boring. What a master piece. It is a pity that we don't get music like this these days.
mr shekelstein would rather have your kids listen to the latest mechanically manufactured niggerbop mumble beats instead.
They reformed recently, though no signs of new release but there is plenty of great new music. You just have to search for it harder.
My personal recommendations for new, exciting music - Skinflint, Snowy Shaw, Rezet, Sons of Apollo, Melted Bodies, Avatar, Gunslingers, Compressorhead, Idles, Tengger Cavalry , Bloodywood, The Hu, Igorrr, Shining (Norway), Poppy, Nova Twins, Al-Namrood, Spiritbox, Plaag
Also, there’s been many great releases from established artists. Judas Priest, Machine Head, Korn, Metallica… even Arthur Brown, yes, the guy who made “Fire” back in 1968, now 80 years old, released new album this year, surprisingly great.
have heard lamb of god?

Saw them in Milan in the '90 and was a dangerous experience. But great band. Tear down the walls.

You missed it? OMG.
Rest In Peace. He will be missed

PANTERA FOREVER..
Shame i gotta dig deeper than an oil well to find the glam years albuns...
This still holds up 100% in 2016! Thats what you can call a metal masterpiece. Same with Walk.
+Supercard Syndicate Nice a reply from a fellow WWE fan hell yeah man haha

Second row.
My ears hurt so much I had to cover my ears with my palms til the second joint passed down the row. Fantastic concert. Best one in my life (followed by Lemmy and Black Sabbath playing on OSU Campus in a local-famous dive bar.)
Their energy was off the charts, and being so close was mind blowing.
In my opinion, a sub-genre far greater than either independent genre - metal or punk.

Lyrics "Cowboys From Hell"
Under the lights where we stand tall
Nobody touches us at all
Showdown, shootout, spread fear within, without
We're gonna take what's ours to have
Spread the word throughout the land
They say the bad guys wear black
We're tagged and can't turn back
You see us comin'
And you all together run for cover
We're taking over this town
Here we come reach for your gun
And you better listen well my friend, you see
It's been slow down below,
Aimed at you we're the cowboys from hell
Deed is done again, we've won
Ain't talking no tall tales friend
'Cause high noon, your doom
Comin' for you we're the cowboys from hell
Pillage the village, trash the scene
But better not take it out on me
'Cause a ghost town is found
Where your city used to be
So out of the darkness and into the light
Sparks fly everywhere in sight
From my double barrel, 12 gauge,
Can't lock me in your cage
You see us comin'
And you all together run for cover
We're taking over this town
Here we come reach for your gun
And you better listen well my friend, you see
It's been slow down below,
Aimed at you we're the cowboys from hell
Deed is done again, we've won
Ain't talking no tall tales friend
'Cause high noon, your doom
