Absolutely in love with this song. Honestly I’d say it’s one of their best songs to date, and overall it really shows the talent in the entire group, between Bens little drum solo/portion and then what sounds like Dan and Mark covering backup vocals with the “spinning room can’t escape” parts. They’re all so talented and deserve every ounce of success they’ve had thus far

The other spirits :-) , it's about liquor
“Isn’t it interesting that we give the same name to something holy and something wholly intoxicating?” asks Nothing More front man Jonny Hawkins. “The song ‘SPIRITS’ describes that very conundrum. When you drink liquor, it has been said that you are welcoming that pneuma (spirit) into your body. Most of us have seen and experienced how alcohol (or rather ‘al-ghawl,’ which means demon/spirit) can make us feel. It’s almost as if we turn into someone else when too much of the spirit has been consumed. Sometimes it’s eye opening and can lead to wondrous life-changing conversations or bonds that would never normally happen…and sometimes it can lead to the exact opposite. It may turn us into Dr. Hyde’s Jekyll and cause us to do or say horrific things we would never normally do sober. Spirits are both a little bit heavenly and a little bit sick.”

Those vocal performances have to be among the most intense in their discography, reaching self titled album levels of agression. I'm simply in love

I love this song. In fact every song I've heard from Nothing More is fire.

I like to think that the song is talking about trauma responses, and "spirits" are Trauma responses like anger, depression, and emotional numbness. sometimes when you get these feelings, they can lead to endless cycles of reliving trauma and going through trauma responses, which only make you relive it more.

As a recovering alcoholic, this song keeps me strong and reminds me that I don't need to be drunk to be my genuine self.
I am as-and who-I am, and will always be.
    Lie down, see through
    Spirits fool you

The song is about his co-dependency on alcohol, and overcoming that habit!

They say that they've "been looking at the world with one eye closed". Are they coming out and acknowledging that they sold their soul like most artists. The spirits are who they sold their soul to?

Think it’s a little bit deeper than the description they gave. It’s always got another meaning with this band.
Take a listen to fell in love with a ghost by them. That’s one of their earlier songs dealing with a similar issue.

Yeah, it took me a while to realize that another definition of a "spirit" was alcohol.

Nothing More have lost their way with their new music. All the new songs sound so much the same. Lack a decent chorus and melody. I think they have run out of ideas with this new "style". Very sad. Never thought I would be saying this about a group I really loved.

If your idea of a good song includes a catchy chorus then you just enjoy radio music

I totally disagree. I Listen to this Band for a long time already and I think their new Songs have at least the same qualities if not better than their old songs
It's just an opinion, as good as yours but I think they are just developing their style without making it worse

I mean, Im not the biggest of their previous singles, and most of "Stories we tell ourselves" indeed didn't stick with me.. self titled remains my certain favourite. But this song imo is AMAZING. Well crafted song, with interesting beat shifts and dynamics, and great performances. Perhaps too overproduced vocals, that's the most negative I can say.

      Couldn't disagreed more tbh
The complexity, song structure and amazing production have been elevated massively on the songs released so far imho
