Thank you for promoting something so important. I was happy last year when the university where I'm working on my MA right now (University of Utah) became one of the few to start teaching Nahuatl. What an incredible language.
Coming to this video in 2021 and I just want to compliment you on such a well put together video. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. I am so excited to learn this language and hopefully teach my children. Right now I am trying to learn Spanish along with my children as it was rarely spoken in my household growing up. I think it is important to share this part of our heritage with my children, along with this beautiful indigenous language.
One of the best videos I found from someone in Mexico on how to pronounce the Tl which is grossly mispronounced. Hopefully with this new interest from everyone it will get cleared up and that pronunciation will come forward again.
Fascinating. You are a compelling and inspiring advocate for Nahuatl. I often use Bibles purely for learning languages too. I didn't think to look for audio versions. Thanks.
I was glad that i found you in TH-cam , I needed that important information that you give us, I am proud of you because you really know how important is to know your roots and even you are young you want to keep your history alive, keep your dreams and hard work alive. Tlazocamahti. Yo tambien tengo raices purepechas. Roberto Pizano
Quiero aprender la lengua Nahuatl para comunicar con los tribos de Mexico. Soy Mescalero (Apache) de la frontera pero no hay mucho de nostros viviendo, entonces quiero aprender esta.
Jeh Ceeh como te va aprendiendo nahuatl? Yo tmb tengo raices mescaleros de Nuevo Mexico pero vivo en cali y ya no creo que tengo familia que habla el idioma Mescalero. Tmb me interesa empezar a aprender nahuatl
Pialli Geno, quejatza itztoc? how many languages do you know? go for it, do not hesitate ... I learned Russian in one month ... by studding constantly. llamame, ok? tlazocamati спасибо
Nice work! It's good to see us all wanting to learn our language. Esp us who are tied to it. I'm Salvadoran, and it's important to me as well. Linking the resources is tremendously important for folks who are just starting to learn. Thank you brotha!
Are there any people who would willingly teach, or guide an English person into the language? I am in New Zealand, and I'm very interested in the Aztec people's history and mythology, and I really want to learn this language! Problem is that it's slowly died down and I can't find any books or anything like that to learn :c
Also, there is one on an introduction to the classical language which includes grammar if I'm not mistaken. That one is about 50 dollars, but I do not own it so I can't really recommend it personally. Check it out on Amazon if you use that.
Thanks ... I'll be trying to roleplay an Aztec character, so I'm doing some research on the Nahuatl language ... hoping to learn a few simple words I could use while role playing.
Me gusto bastante tu video y gracias por la informacion de fuentes de donde aprender algo de Nahuatl. Espero que pronto tengas otro video nuevo. Suerte y saludos desde Florida Roberto Pizano
+Yessenia Lopez thank you, im going to be working on some. The issue is that since im not a native speaker, im not one hundred percent certain which variant to use or if I would do it justice. However, it needs to be done. And i might just be the one to do it
I know some people who use a lot of Nahuatl words, but they don't use the grammar; that is, they use Nahuatl words all the time instead of Spanish words, but they still follow the Spanish grammar, so I know it is not the same as actually speaking Nahuatl... I think that people are afraid to try to speak Nahuatl because it looks difficult when you first try to read it, but once you hear it, it is not that hard to pronounce... Much easier than some other languages like Hungarian or !Xhosa.
My parents are from El Salvador and Ive been trying to learn this so that I can speak this language again with my children. Go Pipil my moms family are from that main tribe
You should do tutorial videos or lesson videos on Classical Nahuatl even basic grammar lessons like pronouncing th TL sound. It would be useful for those who want to learn the language since it hard to find resources on nahuatl
Love you! thank you for putting this together, you can tell you put a lot of heart and work into it. I will for sure be using these resources and tips! I'll find you on Instagram! Thank you!
This was an awesome video thank you for all the information. Do you have any resources to learn about glyphs? I noticed your tattoo, what does it mean? Where did you get the meaning for your tattoo? Thanks!
+Mahatma Largaespada I have some books to learn glyphs and other resources. However, since I haven't read them completely, I cannot speak on their quality but yes there are places to get this information. My tattoo is my birthdate according to the long count on the Mayan calendar. The last two glyphs say "his name is diego"
hello I find your video very useful and helpful for me to learn my native language! I was looking high and low to find somebody that could tell me a little bit about it in English my Spanish is not that good when I listen to somebody that speaks Spanish and I'm trying to translated in my head I get lost in the translation😔
Question for those more experienced with nahuatl I am trying to say "I love my family" Is it "niquinlazohtla nocenyeliz" Or do I use a different object marker? Tlazohcamati.
Ethan Fields Im not as experienced but I think that you would use nictlazohtla instead of niquintlazohtla. Even though a family involves many people, the word family is singular so I would not use the pluaral object marker "quin"
Thanks for the tips and advice bro. My mom is Chilean and my dad is Mexican, ive always wanted to learn the indigenous languages of both nations. (Mapudungun in Chile) Would you say its better to learn from Spanish to Náhuatl or English to Náhuatl?
Of course. By the way, I spoke with a librarian today in the city of East Los Angeles and he was actually the man who referred me to your online resources for learning Nahuatl. He mentioned that the library has plans to invite you to come and perhaps give a presentation on your knowledge and background/resources. I think its a fantastic idea and I hope through such an opportunity you can reach out to more students who are eager to learn more about this brilliant culture and language. Regards, Robbie
+Robbie Aaron Godoy awesome! That's good to hear... What an honor that would be for me to speak about this. I want to help as many ppl as I can. Honestly the mor I have learned about Nahuatl the more passionate I have become. Let him know that I am open to the idea. I don't live too far from east LA
I will Contact him this week, I'm wondering what type of presentation you would like to prepare? Would this be an introduction to the history and current usage of the language? A lesson? Or a combination of both? What is the best email to reach you at ? RG
Great video.... or you can make videos of words like come here, greetings things found around your house Animals ext.......pleaseeeeeeeeeee :) love your videos man
The Blakester Experience in reality, i don't exactly know the answer to that question, but based on a map I found about the different variants of nahuatl, Tlaxiaco is in the region closest to where the speak the Guerrero version. Nahuatl is highly variable, so It may just be more specific to Tlaxiaco. The best strategy would be to ask someone from there
Question. Should I learn Nahuatl from Spanish or English books. I know both well. Maybe Spanish would be better since Nahuatl was translated into Spanish first?
Hello! I would like to learn nahuatl! I am so happy to discover your video! The Google docs link no longer works. Is there another resource you might have available for tools and sites to learn nahuatl?
