You mentioned you have four different lighting zones. Any chance you could expand and how you did this more? I see that you used 4 remotes for the different zones, but do you have different power supplies for each? I'm just not quite understanding how you separate all the lights. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Your media center build is absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best I’ve seen, especially with all the detailed info you’ve shared! I’m totally inspired and hope to do something similar one day. I did watch your videos twice though, hoping to catch how you placed the AV receiver. Does it get hot in the Besta unit? Also, I’d love to know how you managed the wiring for the whole surround setup, especially the back channels. You touched on the front speakers a bit, but I’m curious about the entire setup. Could you make another video showing how you wired everything? Oh, and what AV receiver are you using? Any room correction software used? Are you planning to run Atmos speakers? That would be so cool to see! Can’t wait for more! Peace!
Smart. Nicely thought out process of what to buy premade and what to do yourself balancing time, effort, cost, and skillset. Looks fantastic. The space is so huge I would not have guessed the TV was 77" - That is a great size.
Love your video's! Quick note about the subwoofer. You can easily place the sub behind the sofa, and if you pick up a wireless kit from Klipsch, you dont need to run a signal wire to the receiver, so no cables going over the floor : )
Wow, that’s great raw material cost control on the build! I was expecting between 8-10K commercial value for just the construction portion. I definitely underestimated the total labor time. Very nicely done 👍👍
I'm so glad I found your channel, I like to build and remodel but unfortunately I don't have a good imagination when it comes to "interior design"... But you guys have ideas that are really my style. My girlfriend is moving in to my house, I guess I will be starting new projects so I will be watching more of your videos. Thanks again
A beautiful build, the unit is very impressive with huge impact on the space. Thank you for the step by step breakdown of the construction in videos #1 and now the cost and acquisition analysis in video #2. I was amaze at the base cost of the build overall. Something that I could do in increments, beginning with the cabinets. I have subscribed and am looking forward to your next diy project.
Great pair of videos, great looking results, I think this was a fantastic transformation to watch. I love that you answered so many really key questions people have for projects like this, too. Amazing job, to both of you. Adding my own two cents here, for those with MUCH tighter budgets out there (like myself), I love the look of the Mainstays 5-shelf bookcase in black and they are 6't x ~24"w x ~12"d for usually around $35 - $40 each. I have been redecorating my office lately and a couple of those on each side of the beautiful 60"w x 30"d used dining room table I found on offer up for $100 to serve as my desk has completely transformed the space to something that I am very proud of. Don't be one of those people that tries to put down creators based on their access to funds, tools, etc. It's played out and boring. Just because you don't have the money and/or time to do large, custom projects on this scale doesn't mean that redecorating and renovation is beyond your capabilities and means. Use videos like this as your inspiration to find the way to accomplish it on your time and in your budget :D
Glad I saw the original video just a few days ago & subscribed. Love what you've made here. I also loved the attention to detail, like taking the time to make sure all of those Ikea cabinet doors were flush. Aside from the skills to do a project like this, you guys also have a great eye for design. Looking forward to more!
Hesitating on choice in materials has put a lot of our projects on the backburner. That and the ever impending doom that if I DIY something I'll be calling a carpenter in the end anyway. I NEVER would have thought to use the concrete for that wall either. Great stuff.
We also take awhile to plan out our projects before getting started. We can get a little impatient at times but planning it all out in advance is well worth it and will save you time in the end. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for this video and I do appreciate the transparency. It really helps to get a feel for how much things cost. I have some upcoming projects I will be tackling myself. It's also very helpful getting an idea where you source your supplies and materials too. So, thanks to you both.
Nice build! Just 1 recommendation for the speakers, check the isoacoustic stands, it will make a huge huge difference in the sound of your bookshelves speakers. It isnt an audiophile snake oil product. The speakers will sound less boomy and more tight on bass. You can add shorter or taller poles depend what u prefer. Usually the tweeters needs to be at ears level when seated. Keep the good work! Also check for ambilight systems for led around the tv, it makes it really immersive and nowdays there is plug and play kits. Mine was a raspberry pi,capture video card setup. Now I bought a 85inch sony tv and will probably add a kit instead, even if the diy version was amazing and fully custom, wiyh each led adrrssable instead of multiples driven together in most kits.
Thank you! The speakers came with cork on the bottom but it is pretty thin, so I may upgrade it. And I strongly considered buying the ambient light system for the TV, but ended up just sticking with the standard LEDs. Because of the slats and the wall being black, I felt the effect would be distracting and not look the greatest. I feel it works best on a flat, white wall. We may still add them elsewhere in the house though
I just watched this video and it's so inspiring! The process of creating their own entertainment center was fascinating to watch, and I appreciated how they answered common questions along the way.
First off, I am actually very appreciative of your transparency. I might just have to copy your setup. I do have a question since I am also into sound and video. Is your receiver in the cabinets, and can the remote work through the doors you have? I also have Klipsch speakers but have seperates for audio components which tend to be deeper. If I did this setup, I might have to go down to a single receiver and wanted to see how it was working out for you. You're setup is so clean, that if you can't hide your cables, another option to consider is getting some angled Klipsch ceiling speakers that match your setup for the rears and a wireless dongle for the sub. And if you're in the ceiling anywyas, you might as well throw some Atmos speakers up there while you're there. lol. Thanks for your videos.
I absolutely love this media center, it is the exact style I would like to build. Funny you mentioned that it’s Tricorn Black and that you love Iron Ore, I painted my house Iron Ore and all trim Tricorn Black. I would love to connect with you as I have been renovating my house the last 2 years and have a very similar style. Everyone has said I should start a channel to document and if you’re open I’d love to chat and pick your brain a bit! You do fantastic work and it’s great to see someone else not doing “modern farmhouse” as their style 😂
By the way, I absolutely love the way you did the floating shells on either side of the TV section. I seen floating shelves done, but none quite as effective as these, where you used leftover bits of half inch (?) plywood to mount the floating shelves on. What a great use of your material and what sleek shelves you produced.
Omg, this was so satisfyingly informative! Thank you so much for sharing your numbers and tips. Your project came out frickin sweet yall. My wife and I are closing on our first home next month and I am sooooooo excited to start doing all kinds of random projects that i have no business doing :-) lol Again, thank you for the enlightenment!
Just saw your build vid and subscribed immediately…amazing couple and work on your room. I noticed in the background shot with spa poster and Monico etc…do you work in the racing scene? If so. Would enjoy hearing more on that or your reasons for racing tracks,.. more just like learning this about people. Keep these vids going…super great watching your channel.
Thank you! Bianca and I are actually both accountants. The reason for the F1 decor is that I (Grant) am a big F1 fan - Bianca watched occasionally 😂 I also track cars and motorcycles when I can find the time. We try to incorporate a bit of the non-building content on instagram stories if you’re interested!
What you said about watching TV - I could not agree more. I have family members whose TV are mounted above the fireplace and I find myself preferring to stand than to sit and strain my neck to watch TV. While a projector TV was a good idea, I think the call to go with an OLED TV is better simply due to the amount of lights. Maybe I missed it, but what exactly is Bianca's 9-to-5 job? I would love nothing more than to work 100% remote, even as an engineer - I am actually a Value Stream Process Engineer IRL. The total cost is better than I expected. I was thinking the entire build would be over $10k, so for it to be under $8k is very impressive. Now, I grant that if this was being built by a contractor, then yeah, the cost would be through the roof.
great work. i had a question. If you did multiple batches of the feather finish, what was your process to make sure that once you mix in your colors that you get the same color consistency? also, can you describe a bit more on what colors you put in besides black and what the colors actually were?
Thank you! Yes, the AVR is in the cabinet directly beneath the tv. I cut holes in the bottom of the cabinet for ventilation but I may add a temperature triggered fan in the future
Was wondering about the floor. Is this really what came about beneath the carpet. I kinda doubt that, it looks super nice. I was also cringing seeing you guys work indoor on top of that nice floor. Also when doing the upper work on the cabinets. While that huge counter top was installed and varnished
You did a great job. On your lighting, it seems you set up a few zones. Are you using separate remotes for each zone or were you able to program one remote to operate them individually?
This is amazing! Do the IKEA mounts take the weight off the cabinets and the wood top? Did you consider any independent cabinets mounts with better weight bearing capabilities?
I’m not sure if you mentioned in either video what the dimensions were for the entire area. I’ve watched both quite a few times but may have missed if they were said. I love this so much that I am replicating it but on a smaller scale. I’ve decided on 12’ wide for the wall area and my ceiling is only 8’ high. I’m guessing your wall is over 20’ wide?
I binged all your videos for the new house back to back and now just waiting for more. lol It has been fun to see the house transform though, and curiosity i cant really judge size of speakers but I'm assuming those are Rp600 MK 2 and 503c?
Glad you have been enjoying the content! I actually went with the 500 mk2 and 404c mk2. The 503c would have been to deep for the countertop unfortunately
It's beautiful! My husband actually agreed to doing a version of this in our living room!! Tha k you for sharing the cost so I know approximately how much to save!! I can't wait for the next project!! ❤❤❤
@@GoldenKeyDesign thank you!! I'm looking forward to the project!! I love the off whites and rich wood tones in my home but the black and wood tones is absolutely beautiful!
Happy New Year! Question for you regarding your receiver. Did you place your receiver in the cabinets below the TV? If so, what are you doing for air flow concerns?
Happy New Year! Yes, the AVR is in the cabinet directly beneath the TV along with my PS5. I ended up cutting a grid of 1.5" holes in the underside of the cabinet to allow for more airflow. I may also add in a fan that automatically turns on when the temperature hits a certain level. They make kits on amazon for pretty cheap
@goldenkeydesign which AVR are you using? Many are far too deep to fit in the IKEA Besta cabinets. I’ve used then before, free standing, and had to cut out the back to make room.
Hi. Great job and very good video. It would be interesting to know what tools you used, which brands you chose and why and their cost. I think this is an important factor to ensure the quality and the efficiency of the job. Thanks
Tools, and especially their brand, are not what should hold people back from doing work like this. ALL of it could be accomplished with a Ryobi circular saw, Ryobi router, Ryobi miter saw, and Ryobi power and/or air tools.
@@failfurby Thanks. I never worked wood but I’d like to try doing something like this. Sincerely, I don’t know the first thing but good tools seem to me to be a must. Which tool is the one that hones the wood to host the LED strip?
Great work! Question, what type of wood did you use behind the TV for the LEDs? 1x2? Making a similar frame behind the bed headboard to mount some ambient LEDs.
I just ripped down some scrap plywood. Doesn't really matter what size as along as there is enough space to adhere the LEDs to it. Another option would be to stick the LEDs directly to the back of the headboard - could save you some time
@@GoldenKeyDesign Thanks! I’m using the discontinued IKEA Myrvarv LED strip which is about 1/2” wide, so ripping down some 1/2” plywood would work. It’s flexible but not enough to attach directly to the headboard.
Love your work. Did you put the amplifier inside the cabinets? Did it require adding extra ventilation? Also, which amplifier did you go for? I am also planning to expand my Klipsch from 2.1 to 7.1 and have not been able to pick an amplifier yet.
Thank you! I have the Denon S760H. We got it from Costco for a great price. It has 7.2 capability and 4k @ 120fps support so it checked all the boxes for us. I added holes in the bottom of the cabinet but may add a heat triggered fan in the future. I highly recommend the Denon. I did a ton of research and it’s a great AVR for the price
Happy new year guys, thanks for sharing this information with us. Honestly I think this project came out great the colors and the lighting are perfect. 👍🏻
What height off the floor did you guys do for the floating look? we want to do the under cabinet lighting too. You said 28" so I assume cabinet is 15 + 2" counter = 11" off the ground?
I have some DIY experience, but not building any kind of furniture or shelving the way you have done on the entertainment center. I checked your tools list, but I can’t see two things. What kind of clamps do you use? And what kind of system do you have hooked up to your saws That capture all the sawdust? All I could see was some kind of yellow covered hose. Thanks for any help. You can give me on these questions.
I agree! I remember seeing their video the day it came out, some point before they even had 10K views. I've loved watching their videos for a long while now, so seeing their videos blow up from time to time makes me so happy for them. They really deserve all the love, especially with how much work they put into their builds and videos.
We did consider it and it was actually the plan at the start of the project. However, it does not work well with a black backdrop. The wall behind the TV should really be pure white for the effect to work properly.
Hey! I live in Long Branch, NJ and was impressed with your work. In 2023, I founded my sand and install flooring company, IAC - American Floor, and am seeking advice on how to expand my business and find more job opportunities. I am open to any suggestions or guidance you can offer. Thanks in advance!
Did you end up finding the couch? Is it totally modular? Interested in the dimensions for a basement project we're working on now. Room came out great, thanks for the inspo!
We linked it in the description - it's a sectional so each piece is modular and you can rearrange the layout to fit your space. We love it and it's very comfortable!
Hey. Great Video! Did something similar with the Ikea furniture. But what I'm interested in is where you get that ceiling fan and what's the name of it? 🧐
That's a great TV! Skill wise, the hardest parts were gluing up and fitting the countertop in place (making the whole thing square/straight along with making the joints seamless) as well as routering the slots in the floating shelves for the LED channel (mostly because it is very easy to screw it up and accidently go off line)
Did you run any of the rear speaker wires through the ceiling or baseboards? Just curious how to keep that wiring clean haha. The entertainment area turned out great!
Our rear speakers sit on a table behind the couch (not in-wall or in-ceiling). So the only way to truly hide the rear speaker wire would be to cut a hole in the floor and run it underneath to the media center which we did not want to do. So the next best option was to run it under the rug. The few wire that you see to the left of us are those wires. There really wasn't any other option, but we plan to hide them with an oak wire cover so they blend in a bit more. Hope that helps!
Great video!!! Have been following the entire house reno - I look forward to each video. You guys deserve way more subs and likes! Question: (Im a F1 fanatic) Saw a lot of F1 wall decor in Bianca's office. Does she work in motorsports/F1 or just a giant fan? Thank you!
Thank you so much!! Bianca actually doesn't watch much F1 haha! I (Grant) am a huge fan and occasionally get Bianca to watch the first few laps of a race lol!
Most channels post these do-it-yourself videos without ever going back to explain the process in detail! Love it! Very inspiring!
Glad it was helpful!

Cool project! Left and right speakers need to be moved further out to expand the sound stage.
I was thinking maybe moved to the edge of the shelf, with the L/R being on ~1ft stands.
Are the vertical black panels (The middle ones) just glued to the wall? No pocket holes? Thank you!
Thanks for answering all the questions!! It’s so nice to see behind the scenes 😎👏🏼

@@bungeholegymtestkitchen9888 I have the Denon AVR S760H 75W 7.2ch 8K AV Receiver. It's a little tight but it fits with some room to spare
You just got me to subscribe from the heated bathroom floor can’t wait to do it myself
@@TheGuggo that was a hand-held router, also sometimes called a palm router.
@@failfurby thank you !
Love the tricorn black and iron ore black
Happy new year and I am so excited for the bathroom remodel!
Happy New Year! We are super excited too!!
@@GoldenKeyDesignThank you!
Happy new year guys, thanks for sharing this information with us. Honestly I think this project came out great the colors and the lighting are perfect. 👍🏻
Happy New Year! And thank you so much!! The ambient LED lighting is our favorite!
What height off the floor did you guys do for the floating look? we want to do the under cabinet lighting too. You said 28" so I assume cabinet is 15 + 2" counter = 11" off the ground?
You nailed it! Yes, 11”. You can also adjust it to fit your space.
Great build!!! ❤ Can I ask what size the besta cabinets you got were?
Glad to see you guys got many views on the media center you guys have done great work with all your projects
Thank you so much!! It is nice every once and awhile to have a video go semi-viral and introduce our channel to new viewers 😁
I agree! I remember seeing their video the day it came out, some point before they even had 10K views. I've loved watching their videos for a long while now, so seeing their videos blow up from time to time makes me so happy for them. They really deserve all the love, especially with how much work they put into their builds and videos.
Thank you so much!! We are so happy to have viewers like you 😊
Have you guys ever thought about using Nanoleaf 4DX lighting? Have a look. I’m thinking about combining your type design with Nanoleaf😀
We love it and it's very comfortable!
ashley furniture BLOWS
It can be hit or miss but we love our couch!
This is awesome thank you for sharing and all the inspiration!
Thanks for watching!
Bathroom reno FTW! That is amazing!
One question if you do not mind me asking, whereabouts are you located?
Thanks!! We are in the Chicago suburbs
Noice! That helps especially with the conversion, I am a little bit up north in Toronto! Cheers! @@GoldenKeyDesign
love you guys! we might start a YT just as a hobby doing similar as we build. Thank you for your continued dedication bro (and sis)
love it! cant wait for the bathroom project
I just joined your channel and I love it. My question is this can you give us the dimensions of the cabinets that you use for IKEA?
Thanks and welcome! The besta cabinets are 4’ wide by 16” tall
So like $2655 without the TV and speakers?
Yup! Not too bad, right?
@ you really should have posted the cost with that garbage no one who clicked on this video cared about
Hey. Great Video! Did something similar with the Ikea furniture.
But what I'm interested in is where you get that ceiling fan and what's the name of it? 🧐
Did you replace your outer doors, or did you paint/refurbish them?
Fantastic! Can't wait for the next videos.
Thanks for watching! More coming soon 👀
Great work! Great breakdown of the process too
Much appreciated!
Helpful! New Sub. Thanks for the break down. ....and it looks really nice too.
That whole wall turned out great! Love it!
Thank you so much!!
Looks terrific !
Thank you!!
i enjoy all of your videos, i have a 77 C1, this is a great project id like to mimic, what was the most difficult part of the build skill wise?
That's a great TV! Skill wise, the hardest parts were gluing up and fitting the countertop in place (making the whole thing square/straight along with making the joints seamless) as well as routering the slots in the floating shelves for the LED channel (mostly because it is very easy to screw it up and accidently go off line)
With regards to the LED- do you know if they can be hardwired to a Lutron switch for dimming?
Yeah, I would think so. You would just hardwire the power supply to the switch and dim them from there
Looks great. Do you have a AV receiver? If so, where is it?
Thank! And yes, I have an AVR in the cabinet directly underneath the tv
Where did you get the two pieces on the top shelves that you said you splurged on?
We got them at world market 😊
Nothing beats a LG oled 👌
Agreed!
What surround sound system did you use i love the look of thag black and gold box
It’s Klipsch - Sounds great!
Can you explained how did you set up multiple zones on the LED ?
Each zone has its own electrical run back to the power supply with their own remote. They are not in series
Great value for impact!
Agreed!
@goldenkeydesign you should do a video of the design process in sketchup. 😀
