What do you think of the arches? Good choice?
Good choice!
Love the arches, they soften the structure. They were a perfect choice and with the lighting installed, simply stunning. ❤ your wife has great ideas. 💡
The arches were a great choice. Overall, beautifully done! It’s stunning.
Making a secret compartment with magnets would be great in the old cubby that was covered. 😊
Would be pretty cool 👍🏻
My thoughts exactly 😅 was a perfect opportunity to make a secret compartment 🤦🏻♂️
I love that I’m not the only person who thinks exactly like that 😂
if he was actually asian he would have used that part. thats a lot of wasted space to just be boarded up.
@@woopeeallan I am Asian ☺️ and the space isn't wasted. It now part of our pantry which is on the other side of the wall.
SUCH a gorgeous build Bao! One of my favs. Your wife was definitely right about the arches :) Thank you for making this video! 🙌🏼
Thanks Erin! She called it and I'm glad we went with it!
It's really pretty. I'm in awe when I see many American people with such tools in their garage to do woodwork. It's a life changing game.
Thank you!
His garage is bigger than most average houses in the UK. Lucky to have the space!
Wow! This is absolutely beautiful! The arches provide so much character - you need to listen to your wife more often!
Thank you! She definitely was spot on with this
Main Focus on TV, closely followed by marriage and religion. It's interesting.. 😊.... Beautiful work also! ❤
Nice one lol. Thank you!
This is absolutely stunning. Great job, and very cost conscious for materials. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
Thank you for the comment!
@DesignCraftWorkshop of course!
If it's not too much trouble 👉🏽👈🏽👉🏽👈🏽 , could please you point me in the direction of the LED light strips you used? I think I heard American Green Lights but when I search I'm not sure I'm finding the same products 🤔.
Oh yea! Forgot to add that to the description! American Green Lights : www.americangreenlights.com/
You can try to use code 'BAOLOI' for 10% off. I'm not sure if it's still available.
You can reach out to them directly. Jim is a great guy and can make the strips custom lengths as you need for your project.
@DesignCraftWorkshop Ah, amazing! Thank you so much! If I get any other products I'll be sure to use your codes - you deserve all the credit and kudos 😁.
Made In Indonesia...nice built...
I’m in the planning stages of remodelling the house. It is winter here in Canada so working in my shop is not an option. My shop needs an overhaul and when I do I plan to add a heating system, but for now, I have 6 months to watch creative people like you and discover new ideas. Thank you so much for sharing your time and skills with us. Bless you and your family ❤
Thank you for the kind words 🙏🏼 I wish you the best in your renovation
The arches are beautiful! The whole thing is gorgeous!
Thank you!
In front of the tv has become one of the favorite places in the house…. Imagine that.
I know you're probably not a sound guy, but that cubby hole you covered up would have been a perfect spot for an in-wall subwoofer.
Yeah I thought about it and possibly adding hidden speakers behind a magnetic mesh panel for access. But….this project was long enough already lol.
Wooow, thank you sooo much for sharing in such a detail. You did an amazing job, I can wait to get to it.
Thank you!
I felt the Ikea reference in the thumbnail is misleading. You did such brilliant work but felt the need to show Ikea to draw viewers in.
Wow this looks amazing! And even crazier that you did this in 1 month!
Thank you! 😄
I LOVE what you created here. MAGNIFICENT! Love the arches!
Thank you! Glad we went with it
Great video. Super wall unit. Mahalo for sharing! 🙂❤️🙏
Thanks so much man 🙏🏼
I love seeing the new shop in use!
Still so much work to do in there lol
Absolutely love this build, appreciated your discipline to detail, bless you and your Beautiful family. Thank you
Thank you so much!
That is so cool 💪🏻 It’s really nice, wow !!
Thank you!
LOVE THIS BAO! working on a few big builds in 2024 and this is exactly what i needed!
Thanks so much man! I'm sure what you'll make is going to be magical like always.
Beautiful work. Love the arches.
Thank you!
Gr8 project. Always love/jealous for that type of work (in positive way). Much love from Poland for you and your family!
Thank you! I appreciate it and hope all is well!
I appreciate your eye god design snd your skill in cutting corners in materials for smaller budgets. 😊
Thanks! It may be scrap but it’s still good for something
Beyond impressive!
Thank you!
this is so beautiful!! Amazing craftsmanship!!
Thank you!
This is amazing!! You should be so proud of all your hard work!! Wow, just wow!
Thank you!
Wow very great projet! Thanks for the inspo :)
Thank you!
Wow, that turned out amazing!
Thank you!
This is stunningly beautiful. It is well designed, well, executed, well finished and just perfect for a TV setup. Wow!.
Thank you!
I think it looks great.
Thank you!
This looks absolutely stunning!
Thank you!
Awesome work! Looks absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you!
Pro tip for arches next time. Get some bendy ply and then use some laminate glued on top of it.
Thought of it and I've used it in the past. It was slightly more expensive with the bendy ply.
Personally not a fan of the arches but you did them very well.
I agree. They look good, but I am not a fan.
Amazing work my man
Thanks so much man
This looks amazing!
Thank you!
I have to admit, it was painful to watch those big, beautiful built-in book cases get sealed up forever. I almost clicked, "NEXT!". LOL
Think of the possibilities! Safe/hiding space?
Adult beverage bar?
Gun safe space?
Kid's toy storage?
Pre-company clean up dump space?
Emergency supplies?
Zombie apocalypse Prep kits?
Christmas present hiding spot?
Years and years from now, someone is going to discover those walled up bookcases and scratch their head, for a very long time.
I would &@$%# to have those spaces.
Anyway, nice build. Beautiful result.
I would add lighting behind the TV, the shelf under the TV, and under the cabinet kick plate to balance the lighting effects.
🤞🏽♥️😃🙏🏼
Don't Let Then Divide Us
That deep pocket bookcase is actually for my pantry. So the space isn't unused and is much more needed in the pantry.
There are a lot of choices I would not have made, the arches especially, that turned out great. The crucifix in that spot is awesome.
Im inspired to do something like this in my basement in the future. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you! It turned out better than I thought
beautiful work brother. God bless!
Thanks, you too!
Wow looks amazing! Great job!
Thank you!
Inspiring build! Good information on the details! thank you
Thank you! I'm glad it helped
Amazing work!!! Truly talented 🤩
Thank you!
Looks amazing 👏 ❤
Thanks so much!
looks great.
Thank you!
media console looks awesome! congrats on the success! love watching your channel grow :)
Thanks so much man! it's been slow but just got to keep it up.
I also hate drywall. I also hate paying for the labor. I wish I could find somebody who is reasonably priced to do it. The end result is pretty awesome. I think I can use some of your ideas.
Thank you! Drywall is such a paint. Luckily this was a small area. Painting is also something I would pay for
Amazing project🎉 you just won a new follower
Thank you!
It looks stunning! Really great project and finish. Kudos to you! I think the only change I would make would be so the area around the TV also has the same rounded curve and radius as the smaller side pieces, seeing those archs on the sides and then a square framing around the tv make it look off but again this is me giving my two cents. LOOKS AMAZING!
Thank you and I appreciate the thoughts 🙏🏼

amazing work!! i watch these on youtube but i know i'll never be able to do it lol
I believe in you 👍🏻
Wow 😀👍
Thank you!

almost perfect. TV on the bottom ledge woulda been better from viewing perspective, but visually i get why you did it.
Thank you. Appreciate the feedback
I love the design! And the execution of the project. Veneer is a great way to cover plywood panels. Typically I see people painting or staining. Staining works well if you are thorough with the stain types, colors and how they react with wood. Did you say you applied "2 coats of polyurethane"? Isn't that the thing that yellows/oranges with time? I was told to use water based poly to prevent that yellowing.
You should shows us closeup shots of how the seams of veneer turned out. Are they totally invisible, completely blended?
Thank you! Oil base will yellow over time but no matter what product you use there will be some color shift. In this project I used the stain to add a lighter tone to the plywood and then the poly was applied over it. This gives the White oak a very natural look without the yellowing. The seams between veneer panels are seamless. The only noticeable difference is if the grain doesn't line up. With a rift-sawn veneer like I used, the difference in grain is negligible.
The arches are incredible. I’m afraid to ask how much something like this would cost
Material was $2200. Hours is about 90hr.
Could've just used benderboard for the arches. Now ya just need a bigger TV. Lol
They don’t have bendable white oak boards here. Wished they did
Man, you missed the opportunity to put a fake skeleton in that hidden pocket. Decades later if someone found it…😂
🤣 I wanted to put in a small animal skeleton where the small shelves were but didn't get a chance to find one. The larger pocket if I did put something, it would've me opening it up on the pantry side later for more renovations.
@@DesignCraftWorkshop 😆
That room would have been a perfect safe or guns storage behind there.
Looks amazing! Well done to you. Can you come over and build me one 😂
🤣 thank you!
Turned out great but I'm curious to know why you didn't use cheaper material as backing for the veneer. I'd use something like MDF. At least on the vertical parts. I get that the longer horisontal shelves need more strength. Looking at the final shot I was wondering how it would look if you did arches in the middle section too. Maybe too much arches? Also my OCD is screaming because the section with the arches don't follow the height line of the middle section :D I think it looks better the way you did but I couldn't have done it.
Thanks! For MDF, I hate using it in the shop because of the dust lol. Also, they plywood I used for the vertical legs was mainly scrap wood. You can see in some of the shots the covering was made in 3 sections. The arch in the middle would be too low given the length. And with the area above the arch on the sides, it was intentional to have more area above the arch instead of the center. We like the scale better and wanted the arch to stand out rather than compete with the center. So we kept the center section thinner which also helped keep the empty volume larger making it feel taller and more open.
Excellent build. The only issue I have is many of the shop shots are washed out making it difficult to see some detail.
Thank you! Noted for the next video. Some of the plywood was a little bright
I definitely struggle with shop lighting in my videos.
Looks great. where is the paneling from that you used on the back of the middle section?
I thought you were supposed to finish raw wood before applying the PSA vaneer? Looks like you just put it on raw wood. Do you have any issues with delaminating?
It's recommended but I've never had any issues applying it directly on the face or edge with edge banding.
This build looks absolutely great! NICE JOB!! What is the exact link for the side lights? Love them!!
Thanks! Link in the in description!
I love this.. but dang my ocd is going crazy because of the color difference in the piece you had to replace in the arch. 😅
I hear ya lol. Its not too bad in person 😅
Always love your work! May I ask what’s the thickness of the panels that you used for the wall behind the TV? Are they also white oak plywood? Thanks!!
Thank you! the panels are white oak plywood in 1/4” thickness.
Looks great! Do you mind sharing what color white paint you use the wall please?
Thank you! Greek Villa from Sherwin Williams
Thank you!
Very nice! Really solid design. Any reason for not using the track saw on those thin fascia panels? I assumed you didn’t have one since you were cutting the curved sheets on the table saw, but then the track saw finally made an appearance towards the end haha.
It would still take too much time lol. The sample board was small enough to do on the table saw.
Awesome build! Was planning on doing nearly the exact same thing in my kid’s room, except the tv is replaced with a window, with a reading bench underneath. Do you think the ikea desktop could hold weight for a toddler and parent? Probably depends on the strength of the frame underneath, right?
The desktop is pretty sturdy. It's not hollow cardboard so it'll be able to handle the weight of someone sitting on the surface.
are all the shelves still looks clean with kid? j/k, great build, simple and elegant!!
haha! luckily they can't reach it. but the floor is another story. Thank you!
great build! which size and unpronounceably named countertops did you use? surprised they werent corrugated cardboard inside as some of them are
Surprisingly it wasn't lol. I went with LILLTRÄSK. Three 74” long.
@@DesignCraftWorkshop nice - can't beat that price! - miter looks like it turned out pretty good too with minimal chip-out - also didnt know those countertops had two different bullnose profiles on each long side. I think there is a lack of high-design projects on YT that use ikea stuff as a shortcut or cheaper or less timely option if you want to make this your niche 🙂 - not everyone has the time (or tools) to build things like cabinets or countertops like you did, so using them for part of builds can make a lot of sense if they are lower use due to sometimes lower quality.
Lovely and gorgeous although arches are old fashion
Thank you! That was my fear but I think it turned out great
what white did you use? there are 9000 shades of white. Yours looks great
I used Renner natural white oak stain. Purchased from Fine Finshinh Supple.
TV is way too high
What grit sand paper did you use on the vineer?
No less than 180
Wtf the cross and the picture of christ 😅😂
Lasted 6 months? I often wonder how people treat their furnitire. I jave a bedframe, dresser, and end table set I boight from Ikea about 8 years ago. Only the end table is showing any sign of wear and tear, and barely. You gotta really look for it. I totally understand people wanting furniture to last, but my tastes change, and I don't assume I'll want the same style furnitire after 20 years.
To each their own. I had one before we got married and so did my wife. Then we bought one when we moved in to replace the old broken one. Our dresser drawers never lasted more than 6-9 months.
You went to IKEA?!?! Blasphemy! 😅
It's over.
The TV placement is a little too high. The TV is there for you to watch and not as a decoration; therefore ideal positioning is most important. Especially your sofas are quite low. If would have been better if you some reclining sofa which will increase your viewing experience.
Thanks for the comment. We don't often watch TV but when we do, kicking back and relaxing is perfectly comfortable on our sofa 👍🏻
arches, the trend is over boi. not an timeless design.
Why using pine wood if it'll be coverd with a huge sticker? It's doesn't make sense! Even if you hate drywall I'm sure it looks better with a good quality paint than that sticker 😅
kabayan?
I mean... new houses aren't perfectly square either
Nothing ever is.
hmmm.. Nothing against the arches but they don't match the rest of the media center or the decor / furniture. It would look much nicer without them. The TV is too high and too small.
r/TVTooHigh
The waviness of the wall along the countertop is terrible. Looks like a poor attempt to caulk that joint, it stands like a sore thumb
Yikes. Not my style. I'd love it if I was one of the golden girls
You know who else was a carpenter?
Was it Joseph? 😆
