Totally agreed.I never had the pleasure of either meeting him or seeing him live in person. I e-mailed him out of the blue a while back (around the time Deja Vu was about to be released), just to express how much his music has meant to me over the years. He replied back and even more amazing was that we had an exchange of several e-mails over a year or so. Here was this man that didn't know me from jack, and yet he took the time and I will never forget this. RIP, Mr. Duke
I met George at a Zappa rehearsal, and again, years later, at Chester's wedding reception, and he walked up to me and called me by name. What an incredible individual!!!
Marcus you are not just a great bass player, you are one of those selected group of people that George love to be with. If George was the intelligence you are the common sense. this is a great combination.
I too am grateful to have been alive to experience the "phenomenon" of George Duke from the first time in 1976-77 when I was 8 thanks to my dad sharing the experience with me!!!
Mr. Duke, I'm here with you-Feb. 13th, 2019 - lol - Along with my 8 yr old daughter, she is currently on her keyboard, practicing her chord progressions.... Thank You, Mr. Duke.....You have given us so much.....
From one Funk Maestro to another! Beautifully said Marcus! With a heavy heart and profound sadness Jazz lost one it's inspiring Giants! George was cooler than cool! He was Funkadelic! Love hearing a story that George spoke once when he was a 14 year old kid listening to Miles Davis Kinda Blue for the 1st & how it changed his life forever! George kept doing what he did best Making music & making a difference & moving forward despite knowing the inevitable.Love days of George & Billy Cobham 1976
It's amazing to hear another one of the most high caliber, gifted and talented musicians of our time praise and show homage and respect, and appreciation for another. My kids are growing up listening to true musicians like George Duke and Marcus Miller, in world that tells them that Hip-Hop, POP, and R&B are the music options for them.
What an eloquent, heartfelt and right on Eulogy - and no notes!! MM you just went up another notch [not there are that many left]. Beautiful tribute to a man who had so much soul in his music to share. RIP Duke.
Great speech expressing deep feelings and describing perfectly GD's artistry we all felt and thankfully still feel through his music. Unfortunately I had only once the chance to see GD live but I will always remember.
I KNEW George Duke. I've been holding back on telling of my feelings of Life without him. It is just too much to try to say. I can't tell you anything about George Duke at the moment . . . still. One day I'll let it all out.
what i mean is, "I have been listening to George Nearly all of my life? the magic that came out every time i put on one of George's album's that crisp, clear sound of Follow the Rainbow for example? just to let folks know -"I never got to work with George -But i have worked with, in the past, Fellow Keyboard's and one of the biggest Bands in the 70's early 80's the Average White Band as i said earlier Fellow Keyboard's player" Mike Fraser", with one of the biggest soul Band's in the world.. George From Dundee in Scotland im still listening 🙏..To the Duke Family my Deepest sympathy 🙏 ✌ 🎸...
Soulful - for sure. George could connect, he really could.
