I just found this and how great it was! The smile on Julia's face was the biggest ,brightest I have ever seen from her. It was absolutely wonderful and says it all. Marcus is amazing and soooo gracious. Everyone involved now has a memory they will never forget!
You can't get any cooler than Marcus Miller, the guy's a living legend! He's one of those guys that you can keep listening to for days and don't get tired.
Marcus Miller is an amazing bass player and human being sharing his musical and life experiences. The interaction with other musicians was a joy to watch making everyone feel relaxed to express themselves through their instruments which is the most important part of why we play our chosen instrument. Big thank you to Thomann for putting this great show on.
One of the main reasons that Marcus is on so many recordings is because he is a bassist first. Yes, he has ridiculous chops and is a virtuoso, but he supports and enhances the songs that he's playing on.
I'm sure that it was an amazing experience for Julia to check off her bucket list. She is so talented and Markus is so down to earth. Great Jam session.
Thank you so much for posting this! Marcus is so humble and soft spoken about his experiences. His playing is legendary and his style is unmistakable but what stuck me the most on this video was you could feel the kindness and gentle spirit that is one of the most amazing musicians. Lots of life lessons in this video for me when I listened carefully. Inspired me to pick up the bass again.
Absolutely loved this! Simon was killing it on drums and Julia’s playing was awesome with a killer sounding/looking bass! Can we hear more of Julia playing somewhere??
My name is Glenn Plak. Marcus it was a great privilege and honour to meet a great musician like you on the centrale station of Amsterdam today (27-06-2019). Yes the world of music change when you start with Miles. As a Jaz Fusion (& and brazilian Clasic) Amateur Gitaris i admire you. Why? because funk was and is my most beloved mucis styl. And especially when it comes down to Molody! When i hear you Marcus i tarted fall in love with funk & bleus again! Thank you for this wonderful Bass Clinic Live from Thoman. I would like to meat you again on your way to Amsterdam.
Man, that was sooo good. The 2 young bassists did so well, and it was great to see genuine enjoyment playing with the master. Powerful stuff. Thanks to Marcus and the different teams for putting this together. Love from Australia.
I had the chance to meet Marcus Miller twice, before and after a concert, once at the Seine Musicale in Paris and once at the Blue Note in New York. How not to be surprised by the fact that this great artist with his worldwide fame and his talent can remain so accessible, attentive and coupled with great kindness? Certainly a great lesson to give to artists whose emerging success goes to their heads ! My choice fell on the Sire U5 short scale, an excellent choice for learning the bass when you are a complete beginner !
Marcus little stories from his life is entertaining, and the connection with the people in the room becomes so nice. The jamming with the Thomann crew was cool. It shows how Marcus can both give big scene conserts, and cosy little music bars where he's with the audience close around.
Such a great clinic! Loved it. Marcus is an humble but genius man. And all of Thomann's crew was on point! Big props to Simon of course. Thank you Thomann!
Thank you, Thomann, for putting this out there. Earlier this year I had the pleasure of attending a master class given by MM. I even had a chance to chat with him briefly the night before, a few minutes before lots of people knew that he had arrived at the venue. I told him I owned a 5-string M2 by Sire. He congratulated me and offered some advice about the guitar. MM is an absolute genius on the bass & one fine human being!
My uncle (sound engineer) presented me Marcus Miller's CD albums (along with other jazz-rock/funk/fusion music) when I was a kid. I listened it but didn't pay too much attention and forgot about him soon. When I started playing bass, I re-discovered Marcus. It was a great surprise for me, that he is still alive and active! Marcus is appeared to be very funny, kind and interesting person and a great musician with its own awesome style.
This was entertaining, educational, enlightening, interesting, and incredibly inspiring!!! I actually sat through it non stop!! And for me, my attention span these days, and the length of the video, that is saying a lot!!! I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
☑ just love the musical artistry and passion of MM for doing good for people❗ _am new to bass after forty years acoustic fingerstyle _also just bought my first Sire MM V7 Ash body burst maple fretboard❗ ❤ 😊
These are things your want to share with your children and there are a lot of them available on TH-cam. Can you imagine how generous Marcus Miller is here, giving Lessons that are course lectures. That is the Good thing with the Americans, the freedom to grow. Knowing that the Bigger you learn from what I teach, the better I am understanding what I teach. Am i correct🙄⁉😲
What a humble and friendly personality for the bass maestro of our comtemporary generation. You"ve always been my tremendous inspiration. We love you Marcus.
Marcus Miller is a super bass Master, a Great composer a great aranger, and a really super cool guy ! and also thank’s a lot for those amazing sire bass !! Here it is a vintage second generation and the sound is super !!! definitivly i love you mister Master !!!!!!
Thomann rocks! This is such a great clinic and thanks to all who made it happen. Enjoyed Marcus Miller's knowledge and experiences and Simon on drums are amazing, including the special performance by Julia. Everyone should see this!
Marcus Miller is a Living Legend, and a Grand Master of the Bass Guitar . . . ! . . . 🙂 (-; And He Is Stiil Going . . . ! . . . 🙂 (-; . . . Big Ups to Julia, Simon, and the rest of the Thomann and Sire Teams for Recognizing, Honouring , and Cherishing this Living Legend and Cultural Ambassador . . . ! . . . 🙂 (-;
Awesome share, thanks Thomann. Met Marcus 2 years ago after a concert. Such a nice and humble human being, while he's definitely one of the all time greats. Audience could have been more interactive though. I mean, come on: "you know Jaco?" *dead silence*; "you know James Jamerson?" *dead silence* ... btw: Starstruck Julia made my day. She was so nervous, but blended in perfectly right away. :)
Lolol, yes... watching her and how she couldn't contain her joy and passion...and she shouldn't by the way. But it gave me chills watching her because you can tell it was an unforgettable moment in her life, caught on tape. AND FOR GOOD REASON!! Marcus is a living LEGEND!
Wow. Just... Wow! What a great event. MM seems like not only such a talented guy - but so sincere and generous with his knowledge. The jams were amazing.
This is for sure the most useful bass instructional video I have seen. The part about supporting the song and playing what is really appropriate for the song is the most important thing. It's the same thing that Leland Sklar says and they have both probably played on more records than anyone is recent history.
I love Marcus’s albums from 1983-1984 so so much, It’s a pity he doesn’t do anything like it since, but god what a bass beast he is and a very nice gentleman, thanks thomann for this vid!
Music and G.O.A.T = subjective. Arguing here is childish and narrow minded. Miller is my favorite and I don't care who might be better. He has kept himself clean and accomplished more than most
Youve gotta say that Marcus Miller is a genius, a legend with a rich lifestory to tell. They're so many great bassists around the world but He's a special & talented one. May God bless him forever.
Marcus thank you so much for what you are doing! I was at your concert in Israel, where you played with Victor Wooten and Stanley Clark, it's unforgettable!
Thanks for making & posting this Thomann ! I love this guy, gentle & humble mannered & a magnificent player ! Always makes me smile, whether he's playing or talking.
Very nice hands-on session, love the 'workshop' feel, much different than what you normally see in these clinics where the artist talks a lot and plays some tunes but without much interaction with others.
Awesome seeing you actually play with other people and jamming to show your real depth. Usually you just teach a bass line that is super simple for you.
True master of his craft. He does not need to talk about playing. His playing does the talking. It was still very nice to listen to him - it was very interesting.
I’ve Never watched anyone’s entire clinic video but I looked up and 1:45:00 had gone by. Marcus is truly Incredible!!! He’s well know for his Slapping technique but another part of his genius is his Muted bass line pocket and his compositions. I could usually tell when he’s on a record even with absolutely no slapping. Luther, Anita Baker, Joe Sample, Awesome Awesome
Simon is absolutely on extreme lock on the drums!!!!! Marcus Miller needed no one else; he did the entire session with that one bad drummer. This video was the highlight of my day!!! I will watch it again sometime; I went to school on You Tube...............
Anyone else notice how infectious those grooves are?!?!? I'm still tapping my toes MINUTES after he stops playing. That might be the most important lesson from watching this clinic that he doesn't even verbalize in his discussion.
I could listen to Marcus all day. Play or talk!
Spectacular! MM doesn’t play the bass, he plays music, that is always the goal.
Marcus is best known for his bass skills. But I've seen him play bass clarinet, keyboards and percussion and he is a virtuoso at all of them!
My dude Simon killing it on the drums! awesome !
Dracu!! Good to see you here mate :) And yeah Simon is an absolute machine haha // Guillaume
The drummer is trash 😂
I just found this and how great it was! The smile on Julia's face was the biggest ,brightest I have ever seen from her. It was absolutely wonderful and says it all. Marcus is amazing and soooo gracious. Everyone involved now has a memory they will never forget!
I'll say it again, Marcus Miller has to be one of the coolest guys around. This video had me smiling all the way.
Love the look on Julia's face when she first played with Marcus. Good show guys.
Yeah man, that's bass-love, so cool
Kudos to Julia because I would've been moore awe struck that I was actually playing alongside THE LEGEND in my world 😲
Marcus has been and still is one of the greatest bassists and one of the most all-around musical talents to ever inhabit the earth!
You can't get any cooler than Marcus Miller, the guy's a living legend! He's one of those guys that you can keep listening to for days and don't get tired.

He shows with his speech that he is humble and a great person.
One of the main reasons that Marcus is on so many recordings is because he is a bassist first. Yes, he has ridiculous chops and is a virtuoso, but he supports and enhances the songs that he's playing on.
ridiculous chops, like the ones you tried to have me eat at your latest BBQ?
@@Grafougnolwunderbras😂
You meant to say he’s a musician first, supporting the music. Then being a great bass
@@ramencurry6672 Absolutely!!!
I'm sure that it was an amazing experience for Julia to check off her bucket list.

@@oscarsantos2608 I moved to guitar because it was readily available at home and eventually fell in love with it.
The thing with the bass guitar is that it's not much use unless you are playing in a band.
Marcus, that was incredibly beautiful...yes sir indeed ✌️the musicians accompanying you will cherish this moment on stage with Marcus Miller
