  • Made some test maps for my forked branch of GZDoom: github.com/dileepvr/gzdoom_is...
All assets and music are from the old Crusader games (No Remorse and No Regret).

I know that this is a way bigger deal because it opens up whole new genres but all I can think about is wanting to play Doom in an isometric view now.

Dude, this is phenomenal. Imagine a tactical gzdoom game, or a crpg.

I feel like I think “How could this work if it were Voxel Doom” for every single mod, but in this case I feel like it’s quite pertinent as an excellent use case. As we see here, though GZDoom’s geometry can be dynamically translated to multiple orthographic perspectives with effective results, 2D sprites have to be individually designed to accommodate a particular perspective to achieve the same effect, hence the use of sprites from the Crusader series. With voxel models however, they have the geometry necessary to be translated across multiple perspectives while still maintaining stylistic parity with their 2D source material, making them an ideal compromise for this fascinating scenario.

Everyone asked "Can it run doom?" but now with this we enter a new era... the era of

Bonus points for using the original crusader soundtrack. I've only briefly played the demo in the 90s, but totally love the soundtrack - usually use it as background music when working on PCBs.

Wow, bringing back Crusader: No Remorse flashbacks, very cool

Countdown to someone taking this the logical extra mile, getting drunk one night, and recreating The Sims in GZDoom.

this is really sick, would be cool to see a spiritual successor to Doom RPG done using this I think

  • @marcovirtual

Crusader No Remorse was the first PC game I ever bought and I loved it. This video brought me fond memories back and I hope your project can bring the fun of Crusader to a new generation.

Woah, this is cool as hell! I'm already very curious to see what projects might spring up around this.

Now I want to see a game made like Shadowrun for SNES in this engine. I always liked the style of how that game played but nothing has ever captured that vibe 100% since.

With this, someone should made a Postal 1 or Fallout type of mod. This has so much potential!

  • @BarneyCarroll

Amazing work! Very impressive how little code the feature needed too - less than 120 lines for the whole thing is a really powerful flex!

  • @Patashu

It's so funny seeing this because in 2023 I had a dream that was literally isometric perspective Doom but I never expected anyone to make it

  • @arrestedeffort

This has got to be one of the most innovative things in all of DOOM modding. This opens up so many doors!

  • @BigHairyMarty314

Even after years of seeing the Doom engine exploring seemingly impossible territory, it still finds ways to surprise me. :)

  • @NashMuhandes

Looking dope! I do have a small suggestion - gonna leave a comment in your PR thread. Love it and keep up the awesome work!

Finally we can play Crusader with decent controls!
