25:45 "I'm not skipping this. It's not happening." Lol. Even if it is a speed run, it should be a tradition in Punch Out Wii at GDQ to never skip that intro.
Not only is this one of the best GDQ runs ever, it's also a perfect example of the importance of good sound design in games. The audio queues are recognizable and consistent, and the punches sound super satisfying when they land on the opponent. This game has so much soul and personality, it's great!
If I recall correctly, Zallard1 mentions that this was the first time he beat all the fighters in straight succession in round 1of the bouts during a stream on his Twitch channel where he watched this run and provided commentary. It's a good watch to kind of understand what was going on in Zallard1's mind during certain fights, and some of the complicated technical aspects he needed to know to deal with them. You can start to see and hear Zallard start to tense up and concentrate more starting with King Hippo 2. He gets even more tense after the Great Tiger 2 fight. As for the Ball Bull 2 fight, I remember Zallard saying that he was really sweating and trying to compose himself not so much because he was worried about losing the fight, but he really wanted to get the round 1 string. At that point after getting past most of the opponents that had to be beaten with little to no mistakes or possibly lose the match (Especially Great Tiger 2) Bald Bull 2 was sort of the final gate keeper for Zallard. He mentions while Macho 2 can be bad, he's not nearly as bad as Bull 2 and the other GateKeepers, As for Sandman 2 he said that during round 1 and the first blinking Barrage shown in 106:20 Sandman allways blinks the same pattern. He goes completely random at rounds 2 and 3. Still though, to be able to maintain his composure and accomplish that is nothing short of amazing. It reminded me a lot of his first SPO blindfolded run, especially at the end when had nearly the same dumbfounded look he did at the end of his SPO run, like he was saying to himself "Did that really just Happen?" (after SPO), and "did that just happen in a marathon again?"(after Wii punchout)
Not nearly as impressive as his blindfolded punchout and super punchout runs. Like they said, everything in this game is consistent unlike the other punchout games, in addition to this game having more sound cues than other games in the series all of which are easily differentiated from each other. Still a really great run though, i agree.
49:28 the most impressive part of the run He deserved a standing ovation just for that "Expect a least a couple of retries" *Nails it at first try* that's just inhuman
I've always considered Bald Bull the hardest in Title Defense, followed by Soda and Sandman. It didn't help Zallard that BB has two attacks with the exact same audio cues but different timing. Major props to him for pulling it off so well!
"Expect a lot of resetting." (does instant knockdowns in the first phase) (gets frame perfect stars) (does precise buffers) (TKO/KO's opponent without ever entering a second round) (performs strats that took many runs and hours of practice) "Oh okay that happened I guess that's it"
"I guess this run's possible." PBs by 6 minutes. Zallard1 is the kind of runner that we will tell new runners about 50+ years from now and will live forever in legend!
I mean, that’s just it. Zallard is a god of this game. No human should be able to do this. I’m definitely giving him a sub on Twitch after the event is over.
Ever since I watched the first Blindfolded Punch-Out run on GDQ stream, I've wanted to see Punch-Out Wii be done blindfolded. It's finally here, and it absolutely is worth the wait. One of my all time favorite GDQ runs!
One of if not the most impressive accomplishments ever achieved within in a video game. Winning all 27 of the fights in Punch-Out!! (Wii), in a row, without ever going into round 2, while blindfolded.
I love how he underrates himself throughout the video ("expect a few restarts," "I can't believe I did that!"), yet he beat every fight on the first try XD
"I think I might need to retry this one, just be ready for that" .... To Quote a movie "You keep using that word, I don't think it means what you think it means."
I know how hard this game is and seeing him pull everything off perfectly with little to no mistakes is absolutely breathtaking. Zallard1 is a god among speedrunners.
Zallard impresses as always. I remember Bald Bull from back in the NES days as one of the toughest fights, and here's Zallard accidentally going off-script, "I'm just going to have to react" and then does everything perfectly. Forget Super Metroid, Zallard1's the guy to watch at these events!
Quoth Old Ben Kenobi: "Your eyes can deceive you. Don't trust them." Clearly Zallard1's been honing his force senses, because hot dang, that run was a thing of beauty.
Zallard1 what a frickin legend. This is the most impressive run I was able to look at myself live but all the other wr‘s he managed to accomplish… It‘s just astounding
Another highlight of GDQ from good old Zallard1 guy is a monster in punch out and we can now declare him the punch out king till they release a new game
This is the best speed run I’ve ever seen I usually watch these to fall asleep and now I’m going to be exhausted at work as I was on the edge of my bed the entire time this run. Wish I could have seen this coming! Absolute legend
I remember first watching Zallards run at GDQ 2015. Would watch it so much that I knew some of the strats. No way I could do this. Such a hype run and what a moment for GDQ

Suspicious? :)
We desperately need a new Punch Out game, mostly so that Zallard1 can destroy it.
I for one would welcome such an eventuality. Especially if Switch controllers get a 'punch' function!
*When Nintendo removes any chance of buffer strats in a new punch out*
Imagine one called "punch-out!! All stars" with every character of the saga and also starring special guests
I agree but the wii game was probably the send out and good bye to the series
EdwardHowton motion controlled punchout sounds actually cool
Imagine looking at the start screen, putting the blindfold on for an hour. Then taking it off and you've won the game.
You will like the blindfolded "Castlevania SOTN" play-through they did last year.
@@WSmith1984 honestly blindfolded gameplay is the most skilled shit, absolutely breathtaking
I'm going to be honest. I kept forgetting that zallard1 was blindfolded until the menuing every. single. time.

It still baffles me how Zallard pulled that off not only blindfolded, but managed to avoid Round 2 the ENTIRE run. Props to you dude.
What do you mean by round 2? I'm not familiar with punch out
EDIT: oh, you mean the timer?

This, followed by Keizaron's amazing disaster of a Crystal run, combine to make the best consecutive 5 hours of any GDQ ever.
