If you want to see a rough breakdown of costs, make sure you didn't miss it at the end of the video!
We just about made it under 5K! (They have 20% contingency too!) I always say it's relatively easy for a designer to make something look good with an unlimited budget, so with these redesigns the goal is always to keep things affordable. I feel like this provides the most value for you guys - however I'd love to show you how different budgets compare and what they can potentially get you. Let me know below if this is something you'd like to see!
A huge thanks to Lazslo & Ezster for letting me feature their space! Please be respectful to them in the comments. Appreciate you guys!
5k? That is absolutely amazing.
Yes please, show options for different budgets as well! I love seeing your genius but also affordable designs, but I'd appreciate seeing what you could come up with fewer restrictions as well.
Well done for being honest about budgets - architecture / housing redevelopment TV shows always seem to majorly neglect this.
thank you for this cost breakdown ! it's often what's missing from the popular re-design videos
Great design! They would definitely benefit from some Mari Kondo decluttering as well...
Brilliant work as always, however I have to say this is one of my favourites you've done. You managed to create a sense of luxury not just function for this small family to be. Very impressive and arguably life changing. We would love to see if people actually put these into use!
Agreee
I want to see them implement these changes 😍
Agreed!!
yup. followups that show his designs with real life lighting would be nice, since it can be unpredictable at times
I know this series probably takes you a gazillion hours to make, but it is seriously one of the best (and most satisfying!) things I watch!
Obsessed with the result!! Wish we could see someone actually making your designs a reality
Yes!
Would also love to see what they have done with this brilliant design!
Great job, as always! I just wanted to point out that 52 sqm is not a "tiny apartment" in Eastern Europe. It's actually a very spacious one-bedroom apartment. My family lived in a similarly sized one in Bulgaria for around 10-15 years, and we were 4 people + a cat at some point.
I'm pretty sure that 80% of the people in Eastern Europe born between the 70s and 90s have lived a "minimalist lifestyle" long before it was cool. ;)
It's the same in Romania 😄.
I live in an even smaller apartment in Prague and I do not consider it tiny at all. :D
27sqm family of four and plenty of storage space that would make IKEA jealous. The 70s design in Eastern Bloc.
I guess people who live in Global South can trounce your version of "tiny" anytime you want 😆
In Bucharest iirc most of the 1 bedroom apartments are in the 44-47 range, and the layouts are not necessarily better. (although kitchen and no window sounds like fun)
Don’t think we didn’t notice the small details and improvements in your video editing and presentation Daniel. Thank you again for doing these videos 😄
This
Love how you edited the end, and showed a cost breakdown in the end !!
I get so excited whenever you put out a new video! Your videos inspired my husband and me to downsize considerably so we could live closer to family, and while our new place is still a work in progress, I am constantly encouraged by your ideas. You’re a genius, and this is one of my favorite designs ever.
I'm so happy the videos have been a help - hearing stories like this makes it all worth it. Thank you so much!
You are really one of the few TH-camrs that I watch religiously. This is sensational. Explaining intention, usage, and style very clearly. Keep it up!
The number of skills this video brings together is insane: conceptual design, 3D design, rendering, cost control, storytelling, filming, editing, music selection...I don't think people truly appreciate everything that comes together in a video like this. Great work, Daniel!!
Are you planning on doing some follow up episodes? Would love to see if anyone follows through on your designs.
Relocating the litter box from the desk area to the entry alone is worth it.
That was brilliant. Love what you did in that flex space and the entry way. I wonder if any of the users you've designed for actually completed them. It would be great if we see their eventual finished results.
Wow, this video couldn't have come at a better time. Me and my girlfriend are in a similar situation right now, we live in a 48sqm rental apartment with our 1 year old baby (lost our cat though), have lots of hobbies and I work from home a few days a week. We were set to move to a bigger apartment this summer but due to unfortunate events we were unable to do so. So now we really need to make the most out of or current apartment for a while longer. This one really hits home and gave me some inspiration on how we could potentially do some optimizations. Thanks alot for this and keep up the awesome work!
the entry hall with mirror cabinet is just brilliant.
While I like the general idea of the living and dining area design, I don't think replacing a pantry with a storage bench is very practical. Having to duck under the table every time you want to grab something from the drawers makes it inconvenient for frequently used items.
Instead, why not mirror the tall closed shelving from the other side of the room and use it as a pantry? You could even leave the table orientation as it was before, creating a visual separation between the kitchen and living area. The bench can still be used for seating if need be.
Good point! What's cool about the living room shelving is that it's housed inside cabinets, so you actually have the option to add doors on them and use them for storage! I completely agree about convenience though, but I figured that it may be worth it to allow for the new dining table orientation.
That you describe the kitty as a 'foundling' is completely British and completely adorable ! Another great video Thanks Daniel!
This is pretty much my favourite series on youtube now. You put a crazy amount of work in!
Another aspect that really works out for Lazslo and Ezster's space is it can easily be phased into existence (especially using the provided cost estimate breakdown). Focus on the main living/kitchen area first. Then move on to the entry space. Lastly -- and because it is the most private area -- tackle the main bedroom. It gives them active goals they can plan in advance to take on, all while being able to save up funds for all the changes coming their way in the near future.
In any case, congrats to Ezster and Lazslo with their soon to be family of three, and fantastic work with the design as always, Mr. Titchener. As others stated in the comments section, the planning, process, and presentation of this project is first rate.
You don't do Architect redesigns you do MAGIC. I'm rebuild my future apartment and seeing your videos for inspiration multiple times.
Thanks for sharing
I love that you really listened to what they need and not necessarily what you like or want. Not only does this look good but with all the hidden storage it will be easy to hide things away, especially when they'll be busy parents.
I absolutely love this. The redesign in brilliant. A lot of people in Eastern Europe are living in small, nonfunctional, overcrowded apartments. The initial design of this young couples' apartment is the common living condition in Eastern Europe (or I would say is even worse)
Awesome work! Thanks for your videos! Do you know if anyone ever followed your ideas and remodeled their space? A video showing the reallife results would be sooo interesting!!!
I haven’t even finished watching yet, and I just have to say that I think this might be the coolest couple in the world.
I think this is my favourite video you have shown us. Having recently moved into a rented sheltered housing flat whilst also acquiring grandparent caring responsibilities, I’m looking at how to free up as much space as possible whilst not getting rid of a lifetime of memories. This gives me cause for thought! Thank you for sharing.
the left on the thumnail is so cute and homey. I get that if owners seek advice from a famously minimalist architect, they lean towards it too, however nothing wrong with the "before" :)
100%! The main goal is adding functionality. Taste is very subjective!
Thank you, this comment alleviates some of the horrible feeling I had after seeing our mess through Daniel's lense =D
Just WOW! I love it. My small flat is loaded with board games and seeing your careful attention to storage solutions and sleek gaming area is making me think that it is possible to live in a more ordered home.
If the couple get this design done we'd love to see it in reality..very nice design
The architect king never misses
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YESSSSSSSSS, NEW VIIIIIIDDDDDD
Well done. Such a beautiful and calming space. Love all the storage you've created.
Wow! This is an amazing transformation, so much space and probably not much left to do to baby proof it for safety. Speaking of the child that has yet to be born, I swear I heard Daniel say: “You can have your kid and eat it…” 😮 The cost breakdown really adds to the video!
Cost breakdown at the end was a great addition.
i love how chill the cat is
Amazing! The new space dropped my anxiety levels, even though I don't live there. 😅
Man, I wish integrated appliances were more of a thing in Canada because that kitchen is just so dreamy! Yet again, Daniel, you did an awesome job opening up the space AND maxing out functionality. This situation is very much like my boyfriend and I's situation. I've taken so many notes :)
To get that space for around $8,500 is amazing! Excellent work, as always!
Beautiful design, but I'm not sure the kitchen table is practical. From experience, it's not comfortable to eat a meal with no backrest or with your back against the wall, and that's doubly true for long boardgame sessions. I would consider swapping the front bench for comfortable chairs and stashing some folding chairs in concealed storage -- that way when guests come for dinner or game night, you can just pull the table away from the storage bench and use chairs that have more comfortable support. Using standard table legs would also allow you to squeeze extra players on the ends of the table without them hitting their toes and knees and would also allow you to more easily add a high chair when the time comes.
I love this series so much! I've been living in an awkward layout 2 bedroom apartment and feeling so awful that we have no room and dreaming of a bigger space, but these have opened my eyes to the possibilities and appreciate what I might actually be able to do in the place we have!
I think one or two videos ago I’ve commented that in 1-2 years time I’d love to get an apartment design from Daniel (as we felt like we would need to save on a downpayment for a very long time). But now we are actually applying for a loan already! So this video came up so on time! Yet I was upset to see Daniel no longer takes private deals… But I’ll still apply for a Redesign series - even with an empty apartment! I feel like I’ve seen so many videos or posts from so many interior designers and none of them have the actual heart in their work and really understanding value of creativity, space saving and functionality - they just go for Pinterest worthy looks instead of really making home a home.
I have a feeling that this series is saving a lot of people from going mad 😅
This could house 4 adults and a child. Amazing!
It owuld be awesome if you could do some sort of follow-up videos, or even shorts, of people who do take your advice and implement the changes.
Your designs are great, but I think we would love to see the actual end results.
If showing that individually is too much of a hassle, then maybe one vid per several re-designs would not be as overwhelming.
Just an idea.
Great practical ideas. But they need to declutter a LOT.
I would love it if you’d revisit the people you create these designs for to see what they’ve accomplished.
The design process is amazing. I'm an architect, it will really help me to think like this while designing. Really nice👍
This was absolutely genius. Love watching this come to life. Keep it up Daniel, you’re definitely an inspiration to all us watching.
These videos are always impressive and an inspiration for making efficient updates to any space. Thank you! 😎
Nicely done as always Dan!
WOW! Absolutely brilliant!
That was GREAT! loved it.
Brilliantly done!
Great job. Looks so much better, and beautiful.
Absolutely AMAZING. 👏👏👏
Amazing design, very well thought
Wow! Stunning result!
Looks absolutely amazing!
I really like your British understatements. "A little bit disjointed' meaning very cluttered with mismatching cabinets. Also a little bit cluttered". I am British and probably old enough to be your granny. I have lived in the US for 13 years
@MargaretGreene. Me too, but I'm now in Australia after a lot of international moves. Being English-born, I love the polite British understatements too. 👏👏👏 Here in Australia they have a more colourful and naughty expression for clutter or disjointed rooms (though of course it's not in common use!) ... Clutter or mess can be described as "all over the place like a mad woman's sh*t" 🙈
Your redesigns never disappoint!
Aesthetical, functional, and realistic. Always inspiring.
Looking forward to the next video :)
these productions are absolutely stunning
Wow! That final reveal!
WOW! Amazing! I hope they do this.
I'm impressed, you have done a great job.
This is absolutely amazing
Your content always brings me joy and inspiration
Huge respect for your work
i love, loooove your opinions and listening to your advice!
started to watch your content about 6 weeks ago.
I think your videos are amazing. So much tips! Wonderful
This is one of my favorite designs from your channel! Awesome work as always!
Fantastic vision! ❤
Beautifully Designed!
You are a magician. Anything you touched turns to gold. ❤❤❤
Daniel, its amazing... love your vlogs, always so inspirering. Thank U
Wooow!!!! THAT is so BRILLIANT it left me speechless! Lol that is exactly how I would love to live!!❤❤❤❤
So practical and calming, really suits the family needs
Stunning, clever, smart and amazing .. as all of your re-designs!
This looks great! Definitely one of my favourites!! ❤🎉
Awesome use of space, well done!
Very good presentation. Stands out among the rest.
So wonderful redesign😍😍 Bravo👏👏👏👏👏
10/10. Perfect. Loved every bit.
Thank you so much for all of these wonderful ideas. I feel inspired!
As always, incredibly practical and open interior.
Wow! Daniel, that is absolutely brilliant. A big hello to you from London UK…
This just became my favourite work of yours!
As always.. wonderful design. Very practical too.. well done.
Fantastic design, as I was watching it I was doubtful of the budget, but you gave a detailed layout of the materials used and the costs 👏👏👏👏, which is brilliant. I do love the new look and functionality of the apartment. I also really appreciated your comment on how it's hard to try to and juggle financial stability and parenting and how staying in their small home will help them to not have the added stress of a larger rent/ home loan.
This is gorgeous! Great work :D
Amazing again! Your work is truly genius! I would love to see more videos from you.
You've thought of everything, Daniel! I'm making mental notes! I love clean, bright, organised small spaces. Brilliantly done. Thank you for showing. G Ire
PS the darker bottom half of the bedroom wall is genius.
I wondered whether I'd try for the work desk folding up against the wall unit. It would 'finish' the day's work and close off any work documents stored on the unit.... just a thought.
But it would be hard to improve on what you have designed, Daniel.
Very best regards
I always learn so much by watching your videos! Great work 💯
The best one so far! This series are getting more and more interesting!
I love love love the reveal at the end of your videos with the music playing in the background
Amazing work ... the explanation the way you present the project and the end! loved the hall!
That was so impressive! The render was so beautiful
That’s a stunning transformation and such a low cost!
This is just nice to watch. After those redesign videos i always have a feeling of relief. Love them!!
Genius. Calm, clean, and totally functional. 👌🏼
Wow wow wow!!! Thank you! I learned so much 🎉 Wonderful, brilliant design!
Impressive work! Love the passion you put in the designs for these tiny spaces.
