I believe we're currently during the time, when whatever title is popular, it's getting a board game. Mass effect BG is coming, there's a SW: Mandalorian set BG coming, another Cyberpunk BG is already present on Gamefound as future campaign... the problem is, people have only so much money, given those games are significantly more expensive than their cyber origins (especially if someone wants them all-in/deluxified). I'm not saying it's a bad thing, it's just an observation.
I follow the campaign from the begining of it and as some1 who loves fantasy, mythos and studied history and Ancient Greece, i am on the verge to get it or not to. I think the price is fair (total of 240$, 229 in euro, without shipping and vat for Godhood) but the tiles (i think there are not enough different tiles to present different locations) and lack of campaign to move players is making lots of people, me included, to not back. And some of the minis are ok, to say the least. But, on the other side (personally!) i like Daily Unlock Kratos mini and Deimos Mini, plus some of the monsters and bosses ( Valkiries are 50/50- some are hits, some are misses and as some1 said in the gf comments- they all should have weapons). And when there is no physical copy for reviewers/ content creators, people are most likely to not jump on it. I think, overall, people are tired from CMON campaigns- DCesed just ended, ASOIAF Tactics is on late pledge, Dead Keep is on pre-order with that Marvel Multiverse game and another one is coming for Plague bearer and on 22nd of May they are launching another campaign for Degenesis Wars and they have for summer (i forgot if they announced a date for the campaign!) DC Super Heroes United. And, as some1 said, lots of other IP based games are coming- another CP2077 BG, ME, WH40k: Darktide game and so on and so on. Thank you for the videos and the job you are doing!
I think as KS backers grow their collection, they don't just want a similar good game. They want better/the best unique game in their collection. This means better art, theme, game play, or maybe even miniatures. The reality is that shelf spaces are limited. We can only keep the best ones that we like. PS: maybe Alex can do an episode targeting the box spaces. So many games with huge boxes of air. It's a shame to waste all those potential spaces for future games.
I'm staying digital with this franchise since it is one of (if not) the best action/adventure game I've played when talking about the norse saga games. GoW for PS4 really blew my mind and Ragnarök really gave us the rest of the story in a way that it already story-wise feels a little so-so to get back fighting the same things in a boardgame. But that's my 5 cents after being a little bit dissapointed with the way this campaign has tried to merge what was the norse sage (except the Ragnarök stuff?) while also shoe-horning in the previous hack'n'slash greek pantheon enemies from the previous games. I wanted this, as a duo / solo game with an IP a really enjoyed from the first original games, and then really started to "love" with the norse saga games and mythology. Seeing as this game seemed "branded" as a game based on the norse stuff I was a little bit annoyed when the stretchgoals where pantheon based. Not because I hated it, but because I knew it ment some kind of similar "buy an extra corebox" (similar to the X-men box in Marvel Zombies) where lurking around the corner besides the other perhaps not essential addon expansions. IF there where some kind of option to get a "norse strechgoals only" alongside the corebox for a decent price I could be someone who backs and "hopes for the best" but going for the mimimum 90 dollar + shipping (with included freight?) + VAT had to be a no go this time. Even with your coverage I felt like it wasn't a safe bet. It's a shame in general with crowdfunding now a days.. It is always a "now or never" thing but it feels a little bloated while not even complete at the same time when mixing norse with greek and not having all of the latest norse stuff from Ragnarök, fighting the bosses from the latest "still hyped" game. I would have like a norse only, a greek only and an all things combined thing here. With a couple of comments questioning the coverage of this game, I have to say that I kind off understand them to some degree. (I've been here for a while, before you blew up during the Shira, and later Quackalope collaborations "era" as the channel has really evolved and as you are in a different position right now). I would however say that I really appreciate that you are transparent with your position and that you state that you do give CMON games your time and investmen since you are a fan of their games. But in regards of if this game being "deserving" of your and our time as the unpolished product it seems to be, I relate some to the more frustrated comments, since I'm also dissapointed. ...and perhaps that's that? I shouldn't get this game if the game doen't seem to live up to my hopes and expectations, even if the FOMO for some reason still feels real. :) If it wasn't for your coverage where other channels (except MvM I can think of) seem to have ghosted this game, I might have fallen into the trap of backing it blindly. For that I do thank you. Keep it up! Hope you all have a good one! Cheers from Sweden!
I was backer #2 and I dropped a few days in, I’ve been doing some temperature checks since then, and seems to be about the same kind of complaints that weren’t addressed. People in this campaign seem to be blinded by the IP and the minis (which are not great, even for CMON) and are overlooking the piss poor game design. Not for me, which sucks because God of War is one of my favorite video game franchises, but not enough to dump a single cent into this and this campaign will make me reconsider backing another CMON campaign in the future.
For me, I own CDM s1 and s2 and waiting on s3 and 4. I dont think other similar title from CMON is different enough to be worth it and CDM already has tons of replayability. I will likely never play all combination of elder god and scenarios. But CMON knows how to make appealing minia. Luckily, I am an abysmal painter so I can resist
I love the God of War franchise, but this game was a miss for me. A combination of owning other similar games, and several large games still incoming that I'll have to find storage space for.
Surprised this campaign is doing as well as it is, given how little is known about the game. Hardly any meaningful detail on scenarios revealed, very few cards revealed, or gameplay elements that mix up the scenarios / objectives. So far, all we've seen is get x chests or x logs. If that's the bulk of scenarios, the game will get stale fast, irrespective of how many enemy types you throw in the mix. CMON are asking for hundreds of dollars for a product that's still mostly unknown. Which raises the question: Was the game fully developed before hitting Gamefound? If yes, why not sell the game to prospective buyers based on the finer details. If not, why was this crowdfunded now? Right now, I'd classify this a high risk purchase. Definitely not backing unless CMON reveal significantly more detail before the PM closes.
CMON (Helena) stated in the comments that the Brother’s expansion was going to be the first expansion offered, until they decided to add it free to the pledge.
This one may just have to wait on PM and see if anything updates are provided by them. Hopefully they still 3 month stretch pay going - can’t be any lower - ha. Only company that uses 3 month so regularly - 5 7 10 by most - CMON gets you 3.
I am a fan of God of War since the very first video game. I have not played many CMON games, usually they didn't grab me for variaety of reasons. I think this game should be judged by the game and not by the publisher. I don't like when I hear "if you liked CMON games" look into this one", that's irrelevant and actually irks me. Does the game stand on its own regardless of the publisher? To me, it does not. Both as I assessed independently and based on many things people called out in other places that I did not initially notice. The other question I'm asking myself is how much of the CMON bias played in this video because individual assessment or not the CMON cloud is always there when talking to a CMON fan (or Stonemaier fan or IV games fan etc.). So when you say this is worth going all in for and I didn't see some of the criticism I've seen in other places in this video, I have doubts. And I'm not saying that your opinion is coming from a dishonest place, not at all. I just don't think it has an unbiases assessment of the game itself.
I think that's always a fair question, which is why I would look at more objective things such as their past games and the general ratings they have had, as well as the general value they have sold for on the second hand market. There's a reason I focus on the things like that as well as my own opinion of the game.
Be interested in how you feel it compares to Monster Hunter world gameplay. I'm new to board gaming, but MHW was amazing playthrough for me. I haven't found something that keeps my interest as well.
@Alex, this video is great as always! Respect! I know you're biased, but your opinion matters. For me, the Demigod and Nightmares: Ghost of the Past seem valuable - I mostly play solo nowadays. I like the card based action system, I have enough dice games. I like the minis, but not the gigantic ones, and not a fun of Chtulhu theme either, so it fits me, especially w/o the oversized bosses. (I never play video games, so don't care about the IP.) However, sad to be said that saw very little about the offer in terms of replayability - I guess the game is still in the forge. CMON is not talkative at this point just makes us blinded by minis, which is unfortunate from a company like them. I can understand if their hands are tied by the contract with Sony, but still. So, thanks Alex, very appreciate as always!
Eh, this was the video that did it. So I must say I am a long-time fan, short time commitmentier. Is that a word/thing? Anyway, I will start off with saying I respect your opinion most of the time. You are obviously an intelligent guy and have immense passion for board games. Respect! Board games have always held a special place in my heart but sadly I have always struggled to find people to play games. Thankfully solo games are huge now but that is an entirely different matter. Because of my ramblings, I try not to post much. I too love CMON. Well I should say I used too. Stonemaier has always been number one for me but CMON was number 2 until recently that Chip Theory Games took that spot and honestly, CTG are even number 1 now. CMONs last campaign that I followed, enjoyed, cheered for, was Undead or Alive. Yes, that was a long time ago. I struggled with stuff then, but there hasn't been one campaign I have supported since. I have wanted to but I always found an excuse. Funds are tight, this IP isn't for me, while all the time, it was CMON. I realize it now. I subconsciously, now consciously, hate thier tactics. This leads mean to Board Game Co videos. I have followed you closer than any other board game influencer? No idea what exactly to call you. Trail blazers, excellent call! Button Shy Games, you do pick the best of their best. CMON, eh, come on. It is like an abusive relationship. They have become like a crazy ex that won't go away. They are terrible for the entire crowd funding community. It is because of this and your blindness of CMON, I have to seek my board game news fix elsewhere. Yes, I know you will try and justify your stance by saying you don't always agree with them, but let's be honest. At the end of the day, you always do, you just try and spin it. Just look at how much time in the last week or so of videos goes to this one game. This GoW game is NOTHING special. It is just CMON. I am just one person and my unsubscription won't change anything. However I just had to say goodbye. You have helped me find some amazing games in the past. Thank you! I just hope you find a way to get out from under CMONs thumb.
Appreciate you being here the whole time until now. I'll say this. You're welcome to disagree with me whenever you want. I'm a fan of their games both in gameplay and they hold their value. One is a subjective enjoyment of the their games (although subjective is debatable given their ratings in general), the other is an objective statement of fact. Whereas you've gone from liking them, to hating them so much that the fact that I'm a fan is such a problem for you that despite appreciating my other content, you've decided that this invalidates everything else for you. I think between the two of us, one is more emotionally tied up with CMON, just in a negative sense.
@BoardGameCo As I stated above, you are good at spin. Excellent at spin even. You have taken my view and spun it so you don't have to face the real dilemma that CMON has created for you. I have zero financial ties to CMON or board games in general. I simply play them for a hobby and enjoyment. Without financial commitment, there is no real emotional connection. I haven't never lost money to CMON. Every campaign I support back in the day, I received the game and was happy. I also don't resell games, so that means nothing to me. I simply give them away when I have grown out of them. Reality is that I have just been disappointed in CMON because they never give me something to support that I feel is worth the cost. Well, at least in the last couple of years. However I used to enjoy watching your news or review segments, but you give a disproportionate amount of time to CMON games. You will even bring them in to review them again, as you most recently did with GoW, though you had talked about it in the previous segment of to back or not to back. It stands out because I don't see you doing it with any other game company. This causes me to lose my trust in your opinion. I know you are an intelligent guy. You are also famous for being a speed talker. You can win over an an argument, not by having the better argument but by simply having the most coherent words. Many times you also have the better arguement because you are well versed in the subject of boardgames. It is almost like a stun attack to an opponent. It is a gift. Which is why you will call out people and want to talk to them one on one. Anyway, I am sounding negative, I don't mean too. Like I said, I respect you for your dedication to the board game community, and I truly believe you do enjoy most of your job. However, the amount of time you dedicate to one company, with terrible tactics, when they have a campaign or new launch, is just too much for me. This GoW segment was the nail in the coffin because it was one of the worst CMON has launched in years. It has been terrible. I have truly desired to hear you actually call out any of its many issues. Yet you just gloss over it as though everything is fine. You even give it extra time on your channel. It is the loss in trust as a viewer why I am leaving. Nothing more.
@@MacScelaro I have no problem with CMON. They make games people want to play at prices people are willing to pay. I own Marvel Zombies, and I have CDMD coming, but mostly CMON games are not my cup of tea. They do push FOMO, like most companies (e.g. Awaken Realms), but I don't think I've seen a fake limited pledge from them, or an early pledge reward. So they're a mixed bag. It's ok not to like them, and to not want to see content surrounding CMON games. But they are one of the leaders in board game crowdfunding. They're big, they're popular, they make pretty games, they attract eyeballs, and they put out around 3 campaigns a year. So there's always something new every four months or so. And Alex likes their games, which means he gets them, which means he can create content around them because he has them (e.g. first impressions, unboxings, gameplays, reviews). It's harder to create content around games you don't get and have. It's strange to me to not want to watch a creator you like because he doesn't hate a company that you hate. Why not just avoid the videos about subjects you're not interested in? That's what I do - aside from To Back or Not To Back on Mondays and News and Week in Review on Saturdays, I only watch coverage of games that appeal to me.
Maybe just don't watch his CMON videos then. This feels like a very emotionally clouded, petty unfollow. Perhaps he actually likes the game because he played it and that's what he's basing things off of.
@aeryellae5837 The main reasons I watched this channel was for the broad segments. Segments like monthly news, week in review, and to back or not to back. I always find it a little distracting when it is CMON preorder or campaign time because I know those games are going to take over for a while and I just skip over those segments in the past. As someone who likes GoW, I did pay attention to the actual CMON campaign this time and was shocked just how terrible it was put together and run. It was obviously rushed to meet a deadline. I haven't seen a major board game company put together such a poor campaign. I could go into all the details, which I started to, but it just becomes a wall of text. For one of the top crowd funding companies, this is unacceptable. The game is obviously going to be delayed well beyond its projected deadline because they really still have so much to work out. There was even a post by a campaign supporter creating a 3d printable fix for one of the major flaws in the game. This must be in anticipation that CMON won't fix it themselves. It says a lot about consumer faith in the company. Then I come on here for any news segment and I just find Alex making excuse after excuse for the company. He has extra segements put into To Back or Not to Back. Once he covers a game in this segment once, he is normally done. However the following week GoW got brought up over and over and over. In this same video he keeps hesitanting and contemplating if he should make another video over GoW. There should be no discussion of this at all. CMON failed, let them fail. Quit pimping out your viewers to them in hopes to help this poor campaign limp along a little better. Then I realized I am one of those viewers being used. As soon as this video appeared with it's title I knew I had to move on. I still watched the video, looking for some hope. But alas, no it was just more free advertising for CMON at the expense of his audience. I stopped supporting CMON which speaks with my wallet. However I wanted to let Alex know exactly why I was leaving as a previously loyal viewer. Feedback helps. If I am speaking there are many others who are just leaving silently. That is really all I wanted to do. Just leave my personal reason. Maybe it will matter but most likely not. Times change, life changes, it is what it is. I just used to really enjoy this channel.
Hmmm. Alex have you been told by GF or CMON to push this game because of it's relatively poor performance? It sure feels like it. I've looked at the coverage from other BG content creators and you're in a strong lead. Either way it sure feels like a hard sell.
Check out my coverage of basically any cmon campaign before they were on gamefound. I'm always in the lead. I did four videos for DCeased, 3-4 for massive darkness, this isn't atypical for me at all. And to answer your question...no, no one has asked or instructed me to do any content around the game. I have always historically been a fan of their games and tend to cover most of them with multiple videos.
@@BoardGameCo Main problem, at least for me, is shipping price. I really don't understand how big company like CMON needs $100 for shipping when some other smaller company needs $20-30. I'm really interested in their new project Degenesis: Clan Wars, but unfortunately I will have to pass it if they don't lower their shipping prices.

I completely agree. I don't think anyone can realistically keep up, people have to pick and choose.
And your content is exactly what we need to help us choose, thank you 🙏

I just want the minis. I wish the game appealed to me at all
Sorry :(
I like the idea of the synergy system but the combat seems worse than bloodborne.
It's been awhile since I've played bloodborne so I can't say for sure. I just remember not enjoying the system unfortunately.
@@BoardGameCo yeah, no worries. Our tastes differ sometimes.
Bloodborne is great, very unique system.
Well, I love the IP, so do my friends, and I like the CDMD elements. I will probably go all in. 🤷 Sigh lol
Lol sorry...at least it's fun
I maybe would if I wasn't paying for nemesis still.
Lol absolutely fair
Ouch! You have my sympathy. I hope you are *really* enjoying the game at least?
I will never admit to my wife how much I have spent on nemesis.
@@RandomPerson-nd2ey not until january XD
With DC United on the horizon I am saving up my money for an all in on that campaign.
That is certainly a good idea. Marvel United is amazing and there's no reason why DC shouldn't be as well.
I'm looking forward to that one :)
This looks like great value and I enjoy the video games, but it just doesn’t grab me. Maybe it’s because I know DC United is coming out soon.
In general, I'm a big fan of not backing things that you aren't sold on
Way off on the name Alex. It's simply BOY!
Lol now that I remember
nope
Fair enough :)
Excited to get this, but for solo only.
I enjoyed it solo, but I enjoyed the two handed solo more
