    Dang. Lot of effort. I feel using the kbdfans stabilizer partner supports and plugging holes with dielectric (or thick) grease works just as well. All you really need to do is make sure the wire isn't moving around and the stem is going up and down without too much EW movement.

    It could be a lot of effort in the beginning. After getting used to the process, it may be fast and mess-free. Thank you.

    i rly have issues getting my ptfe fiberglas tape stuck on the stab, but idk if thats just the tape i got from Amazon being of lower quality of just the stabs i got being quite slick on the surface (wanted to try it on new unused tx stabs)

    One thing with the stabs, the right side seems kind of "overlubed" even without lube. Sounds kind of mushy, is there any possible reason for that?

      I would try the mod without Dry HUMPing the housings. If you're already doing this, consider removing the bottom tape on the inner stem (making it effectively the Holee mod with PTFE tape). The goal is to reduce the play between the bar and stem hole, without being so tight that mushiness is felt.

    Not sure what thickness is my tape, but on some stems the extra layer on the bottom prevents it from moving freely. It probably depends on how tight is the hole.

    How do you redo stabs you already did. That already have 3204 on inside of them.

    I have a question, how about in stead of dry hump the stemp, you wrap the ends of the wire, like in the plumber mod ? So there is less effort needed.

    • @thockpop
      @thockpop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I tried doing this at first, but PTFE fiberglass tape is too rigid to wrap around the bar. And using plumber's tape to wrap the ends of the wire isn't great since it's less resistant to wear.

      the biggger concern is the wall thickness of the heat shrink.. get the thinnest you can find, most stabs don't have more than half a millimeter of space

  • @bchung1

    My only concern is that it might cause the stabilizer to feel mushy. Is this not the case?

    • @thockpop
      @thockpop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The tape is pretty thin, so it's not mushy. However, you can always just Dry HUMP the stems and lube the rest, if you don't care to go full lubeless.

    • @claporga
      @claporga 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not mushy, but I've seen so many complaints about the integrity of any adhesive-type material not holding up over time. I've had to fix so many stab mods like this after a couple months of daily use. It for sure is an effective stab mod initially, but no one ever looks at the long term effect it has on the integrity of good function.

    • @guycxz
      @guycxz 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@claporga I reckon gluing the ends of the tape could make it last longer. And the tape on the stab housing could be wrapped such that both ends meet on the outside.

  • @claporga

    This video has further confirmed beyond any doubt that I will just stick to properly tuning my stabs. The work that goes into this is just not worth it. While I agree it is cool to experiment and push customization, sometimes it just is not practical at all. So for what it's worth, I appreciate this video. But good old traditional stab tuning can't be beat.

    • @thockpop
      @thockpop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing wrong with sticking with tried and true lubing methods. This video mainly serves to try and improve existing alternative mods like Holee and Epsi, since those are increasing in popularity these days. Thanks for watching!

      @claporga 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thockpop Thanks for viewing my comment as not a harsh critique. I am just offering the alternative perspectives. I've done the mods you've mentioned. Was a neat experience, but a neat experience is probably the most gracious descriptor I can give xD. Just know that adhesives should not be subject to impact and friction like that over the course of extended use. It will not hold up.

      You can lube on top of the tape since it's hydrophobic. Note that the adhesion may weaken from lube though

    You should not have put tape on the elbow. There are tons of videos on youtube that say not to, but no one explains it because it is obvious. The tape is too brittle and just tears off in such a tight tolerance. Then it just sits there like a mess or can get caught up in the housing, making the stabilizer feel sluggish like it is overlubed.
    Awful video.
    You are the weakest link.
    Goodbye.
