  • If you don't want to install the tender directly on the battery, this is a solution for you.
    Get it at Revzilla:

    Of course Ducati makes their own but look at that price tag!

    Thanks for the video. I was totally confused reading all those blogs and types of connectors etc. this is pretty straightforward!

    Very cool. I didn't know there was an adaptor for that port. Finding those connectors is a real pain if you want to make your own.

      I was just going to make something myself but $23 is not bad considering I would spend half that in parts. This was free for me since I had Amazon points.

  • @berzerkqwerty
    @berzerkqwerty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've subscribed and think all your vids are great! Just a quick question on charging. Once the battery is charged and in maintenance mode, do you leave it switched on permanently? Cold and wet here in England so I won't be using my Monster 821 for a while. 😳

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate! I can't speak for every charger out there but any decent one will behave just like your phone charger does and will allow the battery to drain a little, top it off, repeat. It should have overcharging protection built-in.

    • @berzerkqwerty
      @berzerkqwerty 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hold Fast Ok, thanks for your reply. Just gonna leave it on maintenance charge.

    So the link takes me to a OptiMate CABLE O-57 Adapter for MV Agusta to SAE instead of the 0-47 for Ducati. do you know if its the same connection or another source for the 0-47 connector?

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, not sure what is happening there. Maybe they no longer sell it and are redirecting the page to that one. Who knows. But anyway, Revzilla sells it too www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/tecmate-ducati-to-sae-adapter-cable

    Nice video and nice bike! Do you know if they make anything that will allow powering of two devices? I'm looking to power a GPS as well as have the ability to charge my phone.

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Adrian Keith The problem with this port is that is that it does not carry a lot of amperage so you'll have to get something that hooks up directly to the battery. If you already have a batter tender, you can get something like this - www.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-081-0158-Disconnect-Charger/dp/B00DJ5KEF4/. Might need a USB splitter to get more than one device hooked up. Whatever you get, make sure to look up power draw for all devices and that the cable can handle that. Ex. if your phone draws 2A and GPS 3A, that cable will have to handle at least 5A draw.

    • @Minerva___
      @Minerva___ 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hold Fast Films hey man, appreciate he response. I guess I'm also worried about the splitter if it will be able to support the two devices. Do you know of any documentation that states how much power is output by the alternator?

    Nice! Does this bike need to be in neutral for it to start up?

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Surreal Rider I don't know of any vehicle that you can't start in gear.

    • @surrealrider7358
      @surrealrider7358 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hold Fast Films After my accident I showed the insurance adjuster that my Ducati 821 will not start up unless its in neutral. He was quick to tell me that's just how they are built. Just to clarify if you are in first gear and hold the clutch and press the ignition will the 821 start up?

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surreal Rider LOL! That guy wins the world! Tell him to call a Ducati dealer or any motorcycle shop if he doesn't believe you.
      BTW, if your side-stand is down, you can't start the bike in gear, regardless if you have the clutch in or not.

    Does the dash stays on while charging? Is your charger supports CAN-BUS charging? It is required or any other charger with 0.9A output will do the job just fine?

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jan Stefan Not what you mean ...

    • @janstefan2187
      @janstefan2187 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I asked 2 questions: 1) If the dash stays on (backlight) while charging the battery. 2) Does charger used on video support CAN-BUS charging or any other charger will do the job right?
      I'm looking for charger for my M821 (thinking of CTEK MXS5.0)

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jan Stefan No, the dash will not be on. Not sure why you think it would. Key is not in the ignition for charging. Again, not sure what CAN-BUS has to do with charging. You're only going to be using the power lines in that port. Any charger should work really, as long as it has a proper connector. What I am using is the most common one that you can find anywhere. Nothing fancy or expensive.
      Hope that gives you the answer you're looking for. Sorry, for not understanding your questions better.

    • @janstefan2187
      @janstefan2187 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Hold Fast Films Thx. About the dash. I saw some comments from user of official ducati charger, that the dash stays on. That's why.

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jan Stefan
      I did not know that but that seems kind of silly. Dash would, no doubt would be draining the battery while you are charging it. Unless they are purposely doing that like phone chargers, in theory to extend the battery life by not charging 100% of the time but rather drain/charge/drain/charge etc.
      Seem unnecessary to me. What do you think?

    • @HoldFastFilms

      I have, last year. Replaced it with Antigravity one. Dont recall which one exactly. Bike is supposed to start faster but i noticed that it starts slower but i dont care about that. It weighs like 75% less and can jumpstart itself.

    Same setup here and ended up getting Battery Tender 081-0158 Black Quick Disconnect Plug with USB Charger ( www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DJ5KEF4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00 ) and a USB Cable as well to change my phone while using navigation. Super easy to set up and nice to know you can ride somewhere you haven't been and not worry about your phone running out of juice.

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +No Basis For Comparison I should have ordered that at the same time too. Although I don't travel far on the bike but I am sure it would come in handy at some point.

    • @RayCarrender
      @RayCarrender 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did you feed the usb cable under the tank to the handlebars? I've been considering doing that.

    • @HoldFastFilms
      @HoldFastFilms  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ray Carrender I actually never ended up doing that. Have all the parts but never bothered installing them. I am never on the road that much to warrant phone charging.

    • @NoBasisForComparisonNBFC
      @NoBasisForComparisonNBFC 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thats exactly what I did from the port I have the Optimate USB plug under the seat and then just run the usb to lightning cable under the tank (wrap it around the trellis frame once) and then right up the middle by the ignition switch. Kinda tuck it to the tank strap while not in use. Make sure that the end going into the phone doesn't get wet as it will mess up the chord in a very very short time. Ive replace the USB/lightning cable about 4 times as it seems I can't keep it dry.

  • @stecornes
    @stecornes 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's a shame Optimate are incompetent and haven't had this in stock for over a year in the UK.
