It's not that I'm not familiar with this stuff, but hearing stuff like this makes me confirm, re-evaluate, and possibly add on or re-do what I already know.
Joseph is undeniably One of the best kickboxing (and NOT “Muay Thai”) instructor in the world. Kickboxing, The most beautiful stand-up fighting style. Hands down !
i really love joe's style. you could easily use these hand traps and framing in self defense situations as well. most people think of excessive, complex wing chun type trapping when they think of trapping; but just pinning someone's arm like this will be effective. these types of techniques straddle the line between sport and self defense imo. good stuff
George foreman was a master of hand traps/pins in boxing. Look at his first fight with Joe Frazier for an example of this in one of his fights. But his style back in those days for hand traps wouldnt work for me personally. Its boxing specific I think. Im gonna use hand traps much more tonight in muay thai class. My normal defense is, of course like everyone else, my guard(I keep a fairly high guard. My gloves are at eye level, the highest I can go without compromising my vision too badly. When Im attacked my guard goes higher and I see through the openings in my tight guard, and usually intercept, take, or deflect punches(and kicks) off my lead or rear arm and glove(the punches often slide a bit off my lead forearm, losing much of its power, then harmlessly strikes(and bounces off) my rear forearm, which is defending my face. Unfortunately Ive been a bit too vulnerable to teeps/push kicks esp when i spar my coach. Also one of my sparring partners is, and Im not exaggerating, 6'8 or even taller. Im 6'0. Even when we're fighting and he is crounched a bit in his stance, it takes an effort for me to strike his head. I have the most success taking his jab on my two gloves, closing the distance at the same time, and tagging him with a quick left hook angled upwards at his jaw. Those land more often than others. Even the slightest head movement from him makes it difficult to land straight punches unless hes not moving his head like when he attacks. I tell you its HARD to fight and land head shots against a guy that tall. Luckily his kicks arent as developed(yet) as his punches so I can still exploit that, and also I can land hard damaging body blows, punches and kicks against him, and I almost always go for the body first before the head against him. He actuallys weighs the same as me despite the height disparity, hes tall and lanky. He has a really hard cross, and his jab is also stiff. He throws too fast for consistent parries, at least for now, so I mostly deflect his shots using my forearms like i said, or block the way joe in his videos always blocks, my partners strikes to my head. When I see my 6'8 sparring partner spar one of our other guys who is short, this guy is about 5'6 or so, its INSANE. First of all the 5'6 guy comes up to the tall ones lower chest(or even his gut). He can only land body blows; he cant land head shots AT ALL against the tall guy. My coach rarely has the two spar, or really, anybody who is too short to land head shots against the tall guy. But it was crazy when it did happen. It kept him at bay easily with his jabs and crosses. Short guy landed some high kicks to his body/ribs(short guy has good kicks).
Hey man saw a video first time a couple days ago. Immediately saw you knew what you were talking about and you're giving away some amazing information here. What do you think about fighting pro and handling the financial portion of the sport? I.e. expenses vs working part time/full time. How much time training would you put in before competition? Vs everyday work schedules? Liked and subbed thank you.
Would really appreciate a greater focus on these particular techniques from an Orthodox v Orthodox perspective, hand trapping from Orthodox vs Southpaw is pretty well known but stuff like the Muay Thai longuard or Kitschko's defense vs Joshua I think are more generally applicable for a whole strategy around using leverage as a primary defense.
This channel is a hidden gem top quality content thanks for uploading

Exactly. Something simple and fundamental will work a lot more easily, most of the time. Plus, this is combat tested

Nice. A very underused tactic in both boxing and MMA I think
Excellent tutorial Bazooka 🤩
I love these technique videos! I would love to see these techniques being used in an actual fight via footage to showcase its potential
