This video sent me down the rabbit hole of learning hand traps to add to my style and it pairs really well with a long guard/low guard it's pretty neat how effective these are at find/creating openings against a solid tight guard and allows the to cut closer angles without worrying too much about walking into a counter if you get a solid lock on their hands
Bro amazing video I will try some of these in sparring. I also love how you actually show video of you using your techniques even when they are unsuccessful in the attempt.
This is great stuff. I study JKD and I've been focusing on where trapping can be useful in sparring. It's validating to see other people doing this. Keep up the great work.
I realised how awesome hand traps were after watching Giorgio Petrosyan demolishing his opponents with them while making them so seamless. Awesome video, Jeff! Will definitely be taking notes! :'D
Hey bro I’m new to sparring can you make a video on how not to flinch when someone attacks you or build up confidence in fight and also can you share about how to use combos in fight with proper execution
I’m also new to sparring and I’ve tried all kinds of drills and everything you can think of but the only thing to really help me is actually doing it. Finding ppl who are better than you and who will take it easy but not too easy so you’re not learning. I used to flinch real bad and now I’m getting a lot better in just a few spars (after tons of everything you can think of lol) If you have Instagram you should check mine out. You can literally see the progression and evolution from me being super nervous to now (still new but not as nervous) It sounds as if we are only a few months if that apart so it would be cool to follow you as well dan_elgordito
Honestly the main thing is just working your defense and sparring go against guys who will punish bad defense but won't lay you out lol. Once you get comfortable defending you won't flinch. The flinch comes from being nervous and overreacting to everything.
I love your videos. Some guys just show the moves on theory, and whith a student who dosen´t move or react to their explanations. You show the Technique and how it works in reality. That is amazing.
Love your videos Jeff, thak you for all the great content! I'm currently waiting for a knee surgery and it might be in a while due to Covid, but watching this keeps me in touch with Muay Thaï and it feels great!
I noticed in boxing sparring yesterday that many of these are more difficult (but still effective) to perform against an opponent with a high and tight Muay Thai style guard (particularly if they are as tall or taller than you). I ended up landing some real hand traps (especially that rear hand paw to short cross -> rear hand paw to liver hook)💰 But at other times I’d basically just smack their guard and it worked the same✊ The only time I got caught was on entry for a liver hook when I half assed the hand trap setup and didn’t cut an angle. If I’m too far on the angle, the punch is too long & less effective. If I don’t cut the angle and I didn’t really immobilize their arm, then I get a left hand to the dome. I love being able to come back to these videos and see what I did wrong🙏 appreciate you sir!
Great video, I'm gonna try some of these Saturday during sparring. A good follow up video might be a tutorial on to counter hand traps that an opponent might be using.
I use a lot of these as I starting in wing chun as a child then to mma I’ve kinda developed a hybrid where I can use wing chun concepts while training mma. Awesome stuff
This is getting much more serious Kickboxing/Muay Thai101 that now I imagined, getting much more realistic perceptions comparing than I imagined before👍
deleted my other comment, I think it was super rude which wasn't my intent. Thanks for putting out such amazing content on a consistent basis. I love seeing the shit you get up to.
I have tried some of these after watching this video and they have helped me tremendously I have been lighting people up at the gym LOL the fact that I am almost 48 years old I need every little bit of help I can get when sparring with guys half my age and much faster than me since I am 6'2 and 220 lb LOL
This channel is so good! Been learning more trapping, locking and throwing techniques after mostly doing Muay Thai and it's been a blast to mix boxing and trapping. Aka dirty boxing 🥊
I know this is towards MMA & Muay Thai. & of course I KNOW the techniques have been around for a LONG TIME. But I’ll always connect hand traps to George Foreman. Dude was a beast, Daniel Cormier even brought his boxing style into his own gameplan as he’s stated before. As always amazing content sir!
Gaaa! Jeff, you're giving away one of my biggest secrets! :D Yeah, hand trapping is an awesome underrated tactic. Great job on the video breaking down this tactic.
I took 4 months of Dutch Kickboxing under James McSweeney. The confidence this stuff gives you is incredible. I'm out here walking around like I know shit now. Hahaha. Hands up, eyen on opponent. Basic knowledge that most dudes won't have in a real fight. 9 outof 10 I see me winning. 😎
4:52 The slip and simultaneous leg sweep from the guy in red and black is incredible. Had he done it full power it would've been worthy of Dany Bill's legendary sweep counters. That's some high level muay thai right there.

with ur experience how hard did you have to swat their hands down to throw the strike?
I like how simple and clear Jeff explains these techniques, always good to see another upload👍
thanks Ben!

Probably the best hand trapping video I've found, showing how to adjust and follow up with failure scenarios. Much appreciated

Do opponents respect light power when sparing or get sour and heat up because they’re getting picked apart
it all depends on the specific individual

Hi Jeff, do you think the Wing Chun style of simultaneously trapping/striking at the exact same time has any merit?
I think it can be yes! especially in close quarter combat
