- Police officers with the city of Tempe have been engaging in lawless and unconstitutional behavior in an attempt to prohibit free speech. Recently, they gave a criminal citation to a man who was exercising his 1st amendment right and they stole his property.
Apologia Church and Jeff Durbin had contact with the police officers this morning. Jeff Durbin instructed the police that they had no right to stop his free speech and they were in violation of the Federal, State, and City law in attempting to shut down the protest.

@Carlos Perdue What happened is that the ABUSIVE FAKE PREACHER shut off his amplifying device as he was ordered to by the authorities who advised him that it was illegal, according to Tempe City Code. The only noise that has to be measured by a decibel meter is a continuous noise such as construction work or work that requires heavy machinery of which a city permit is required. The authorities were quite patient with this loud mouthed supposed preacher who was acting more like a drunken fool. TEMPE Noise Ordinance - Section 20-7, a(2) a . (3) a,b and c.

@@diefenbakersown At the time of it happening, ask for their badge numbers and name. They are legally required (I believe so) to announce who they are. Afterwards, while your at it, ask them for their supervisor’s phone number or badge. If they don’t give you the supervisor, at least you have the officers name. Contact the pd and ask to speak to the supervisor. If the supervisor is a douche, ask to go up the chain-of-command. Don’t be an ass about it. Be respectful. You’ll be more likely to be treated respectfully. If you go nowhere, you can always sue. If you sue, the PD has to prove they aren’t guilty, you don’t have to prove anything.

Your rant doesn't apply to his situation because he will not be protected by qualified immunity if the pastor goes forward with his complaint. While the officers were wrong, they didn't even give him an official citation. A warning citation with no name on it is the equivalent of toilet paper. The officers also didn't detain him as he was free to move around. Nothing happened during this video, just idiot cops not knowing the law.

Yes, we are under Grace but if someone asks us the time, we should at least tell them what time it is before we start discussing sin. Let's not cause dissension or debate. Although, we are under Grace, currently, we are discussing the "Laws of the Land" which God has informed us to "obey". Thus, we need to pay attention to the Law to ensure that we are following God at all times. This does not mean to follow man's words and/or man's law at the expense of God's Word and God's Law. As, God's Law always trumps man's law. However, whenever possible we should follow the laws of the land and be familiar with what those laws are to ensure that we are following them correctly. I'm simply offering some further detail and information to broaden the scope of this discussion. Perhaps, there's something that I missed?

The officers should have showed up with a decible meter and measured his amplified speech to see if it violated city ordinances. If it did not, then they should have told the person who complained that Pastor Jeff was NOT in violation of city ordinances and was exercising his constitutional right of free speech. Period.
Pastor Jeff knows the law and was standing up for his rights, so citing Romans 13 does not support your argument? Pastor Jeff in this encounter wasn't shown to be violating the law. So, unless the officers can prove otherwise, he was conducting himself lawfully. This is constitutionally protected activity.
The scripture you cited does NOT support carte blanche authority to violate codified law in performance of government duties.
The scripture you quoted applies to the officers that showed up and did NOT submit themselves to the codified law and ordinaces that were there to instruct them on how they were to legally conduct themselves in this encounter.

When I was younger I was caught drinking underage and was frisked by a male cop, then when he took me in the female cop was there when I told her I had already been frisked she looked confused and angry but did not say anything. Ive been straight attacked by police more than once. A swat team raided my apartment as well. Lucky i wasn't home I was at school or id probably be dead.
I used to think being a Christian was walking around just being nice to everyone and 'turning the other cheek.' As time goes on I realize more and more that to speak up for yourself and what is right is a very Christian thing to do. And turning the other cheek does not mean submit to aggressors, it means to forgive and not hold past trespasses against others.

Agreed, but even more so, turning the other cheek means taking the due justice upon oneself. The reason the Bible states an eye for an eye , is because justice demands it. But when Christ died for us, HE took on the rightful judgement we deserved, so to be like Christ, instead of an eye for an eye, we are told to be like Christ. When we are told to turn the other cheek, we are being reminded just judgement is imperative but God which Jesus ultimately finished it for us.

The cops deal with a lot of crap on a daily basis, and they shouldn't waste their time on trivial complaints such as this. But it's been a big problem in this country for a long time, that cops think they can abuse their 'power' wherever they see fit. A good officer would turn and present the law to the complainer, and then it's all over. But bad cops have an axe to grind and it doesn't matter if they're wrong - they will abuse their power and grind that axe for as long as they get away with it. It is the minority, but politics protects them.
Jeff is amazing in his knowledge across many subjects. While I can’t read the police officers minds, I do know that many do try to protect and serve. Did these police officers know to the dot the law? Apparently not. Thank heavens Jeff did. But the officers did seem to know that they were beaten in the end and walked away. I’ll give em credit for that. Perhaps a good learning tool for the police….at least I hope so. Politics and police should never mingle. Only law and the enforcement of the law should. And here unfortunately that was absent.
