Eydie Gorme was absolutely fabulous ! She had everything Streisand had and much more! No wonder they wanted her initially for Funny Girl . Those octave skips my God! What a set of pipes on this woman !I always loved her !
Eydie Gorme was a wonderful singer and talented artist. I remember singing along with her on the Hit Parade of the 1950s in New York City. Her fantastic voice inspired me, and made me think that anything was possible. In 2011, I finally sent her an email and to my surprise she reply. This year I received a Valentine's Day email from Eydie and Steve.. May you rest in peace, dear Eydie.
Does it get any better? those were the days when a singer didn't need big production, just sing the tune fabulously with a swinging band. I love Eydie, the best.
With her 5-octave range, she was the Mariah Carey of her era. My DH & I saw her & Steve Lawrence in Las Vegas 5 years ago & what a wonderful show it was!! At 73 yrs of age, she could still belt 'em out with the powerful voice she was blessed with. She can't hit the very high notes like she did in her 20's & 30's, so the music was rewritten to allow for that. She & Steve entertained us for about 2 hrs, & because of back problems, Eydie isn't touring any longer. Thx for sharing this video!
My husband and I fell in love with this song in the background - by June Christie back in the day - but after all these years Eydie Gorme sounds almost as good. Thank you.
Oh my God she was so good and even with Steve Lawrence they were a gift from heaven for many years nobody will even come close to this again EVER !!!!!
My #1 female singer of this era! Wow, she sure was pretty woman as well as having a load of talent! She kept climbing with those, all in tune without the use of any processing. PURE TALENT!!!
Eydie does a fabulously up tempo version of this song that seems to totally make it hers only! Her ending on this going up 3 octaves shows such a strong range of such a beautiful voice! God bless you for sharing your special gift!!!
THIS was Entertainment at its best. I am a devoted FAN who will miss Ms. Gorme! I used to play her albums every night on my KVIL FM Dallas Nightlight Show. This was a particular favorite. Makes me very sad that she's gone. RIP, Eydie! We love you. This Song was a favorite of mine. Thank you for posting!
She always amazed me singing that song jumping 3 Octives at the end what smooth controled Voice Power wow one of the all time Best Girl Singers she never gets the credit she should.
Eydie Gormé (also spelled Gorme[2]; August 16, 1928 - August 10, 2013) was an American singer who performed solo as well as with her husband, Steve Lawrence, in popular ballads and swing. She earned numerous awards, including a Grammy and an Emmy. She retired in 2009 and is survived by Lawrence who continues to perform as a solo act. She died Aug 10, 2013
I can remember hearing Eydie singing that song as a young kid. Then at the end of the song, the way her voice went up into the high pitch. I'm thinking, man, how did she do that. Wow!
It's great to see footage of her singing this, it's my favorite 50's recording from Eydie. Thanks for posting it. I love that she's always got an ear to ear smile when she sings. You know that she loves to entertain and is so great at it!
In the beginning she was VERY hip and made some of the swingingest, most venturesome albums being done by anyone. Then she married Steve and today they quickly became show business royalty and there wasn't much occasion for being hip any more. But she's always been a superior singer by any measure and a truly endearing personality. If you don't have her ABC albums on C.D., do get them. You'll be amazed.
Always loved her version of that song!! Holy cow - her vocal chords must start at her knees - how the yell does anyone do those final notes?!? Amazing voice - incredible.
Eydie Gorme what a singer! this love songs and the romantic spanish songs, whit trios Los Panchos, one of the best romantic voses i ever heard, the tecnic one his vose, all most the same tecnic Mel Thorme have, my favorit singer
Forget the TV...Amaze yourself by spending an afternoon or evening YouTubing with Eydie. I do it often, enjoying some of the greatest music ever produced and so much from which to choose!
That is exactly what I am doing! Tattletales with Steve and Eydie in 1982 is sooo awesome! I never saw them in Vegas and it is my big disappointment! Saw them at Minnesota State Fair I also had tickets in Atlanta the day Michael died! Was a teen fan of them both!
You don't often hear this sung now but it's nice to see it performed long ago now. Time travel. Allows me to catch up on stuff I missed. To visit the performance as if it were now. As often as I like. I'm still learning. Eydie Gorme goes on my list.
Ms. Gorme was taking jazz dance classes with a world famous teacher during the time of this recording, his name is Luigi - the first to innovate a technique to learn the American artform of jazz/theater dance. During this current month of May, 2012, Luigi used this recording of Eydie's in his classes in NYC, for his international clients, and they loved it so much that he finished a routine to the entire recording. Maybe Eydie will come back and he'll be able to show her his terrific dance...
As a former pro vocalist for 35 years she was always my i siration lf l ever had to appear after her l swear l would say l suddenly felt ill hi from Australia xxx
This is definitely one of my favorites. She's devastating ! But if you love high notes you might also appeciate the performance of the nine years younger italian female singer Mina Anna Mazzini in Mina & A. Trovajoli _ Sette uomini d'oro which is without lyrics !
I have the vinyl lp on which this song appears. Believe it was her first LP. Love it! Looking for Eydie's version of "Guess Who I Saw Today". By any chance do you have it?
Don't look now Sylvie, your ignorance is showing. One of Eydie's most successful projects was recording with a group called "Los Panchos" Look it up and stop insulting people.

STUPENDOUS; MARVELOUSLY TALENTED. ONE OF MY FAVORITE VOCALISTS. THE ENDING WAS DELIGHTFUL. SHE EFFORTLESSLY HIT THOSE HIGH NOTES.
Eydie was America's sweetie. Miss her talent and beauty.
Brilliant! Such a flawless voice and great style. There seems to be few singers of this level in today's popular music.
Viva Srta. Gorme!

In physics she is called a magnet.

true art
Thanks Andrea.
So smooth going up the scale till she makes a speaker almost break!
Get into the ending. Flawless
Eydie could bring the heat...
She found it with steve!
The Lady could sing .
Eydie reminds me of June Christy who also recorded this tune.
Sing!
What year is this from? What show was it on??
🙏💔😢💕🎼🎵🎶
Actually she is an italian jew! Edith Garmenzano. Mother from Turkey; father from Sicily...hey that really makes you an italian.
Yeah, the comparable male singers (Sinatra, etc.) got the big fame but who except devotees to the era remember the equal greatness of Gorme??
I'll take romance to.
@viewingut they probably wanted to hear the studio version; the sound quality isn't very good.
her husband Steve Lawrence did this song as well.
That's a high D.
No autotune needed here. High standards.
She's also Jewish.
I HAVE A BETTER SHARPER VIDEO THAN THIS, BUT HER VOCAL IS GREAT HERE. . . . . SO SHAPELY ! I ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO THOSE HIGH NOTES.
Please post it
