Hi Posy Darling, Guess there's no accounting for taste! As the poster I apologize for a couple of audio/visual glitches seen here. I don't think anyone could actually dislike her performance. Grateful to hear from you, and thanks! varadero
Oh Posy, don't pay any attention to those like/dislike stupid thumb icons -- there are kids (and creeps) who just LOVE to be dissentious, they don't know what they're doing or even listening to, for that matter. No class!

I think another great and beautiful voice was Karen Carpenter. She could sing what she wanted, without practice, she just had that special kind of voice, but I do love Julie Londons voice.
I haven't seen the movie this clip is from, but I'd wager this clip had to be one of the high points--if not the high point--of the movie. A touch of class from Miss Julie London!

Hi Tom Daffurn, I'm grateful that you've written her praises! Ms. London was a genius singer, and we can only wish she'd stayed with us much longer. Thought she's been gone these 17 years, her beauty and smoky voice will never leave us! Thanks again! varadero

I've been in love with Julie London since I was 10 years old & first saw her on the TV show "Emergency". I didn't know a lot about her until recently when I discovered she had an incredible singing voice & that she was a movie star back in the day. She has to be one of the most beautiful women in the history of this planet!

I wasn't born when this came out but to my ears the music has SO MUCH beauty and elegance. Like being wrapped in a warm blanket. Nothing today comes close.
my parents love Julie London. When I was abt 10, dad bought a tape of her best hits. I just couldnt appreciate it back then. But now that Im chasing 50, & all of a sudden Im really really loving Julie London! Age does wonders to ones musical tastes doesnt it? lol
try chasing 70 from the wrong side; that's me! Kind of barely, but I remember her from before her singing career even took off. Pls check this out: www.julielondon.org/J/Tap_Roots.html This is a good film! Grateful to hear from you. varadero

Lyrics: I don't know why I made you cry I'm sorry sweetheart and yet Though you shouldn't be lenient with me I hope you forgive and forget What can I say dear after I say I'm sorry What can I do to prove it to you, I'm sorry I didn't mean to ever be mean to you If I didn't care i wouldn't feel like I do I was all wrong, but right or wrong I don't blame you why should I take somebody like you and chain you I know that I made you cry and I'm so sorry dear what can I say dear, after I say I'm sorry I'm so sorry, for me and for you I'm so sorry what can I do I made you cry and I'm so sorry dear What can I say dear after I say I'm sorry

Lyrics: WHAT CAN I SAY? / Julie London (Words by ? / Music by Jeff Alexander ?) from movie: "The George Raft Story" (1961) / directed by Joseph M. Newman (intro) I don't know why I made you cry I'm sorry sweetheart And yet Though you shouldn't be Lenient with me I hope you'll forgive And forget ... What can I say dear After I say I'm sorry What can I do To prove it to you I'm sorry I didn't mean To ever be mean To you ouh ouh ouh If I didn't care I wouldn't feel like I do ouh ouh ouh I was all wrong But right or wrong I don't blame you Why should I take Somebody like you And shame you I know that I Made you cry And I'm so sorry dear What can I say dear After I say I'm sorry ..... (instrumental bridge) ..... I'm so sorry For me and for you I'm so sorry What can I do I heard you cry And I'm sooo sorry dear What can I say dear Aaafter I say I'm sooorryyyyy......... /EOF/
Oh good, giving credit to the songwriter! there's another " Alexander" who was a talent agent in Sherman Oaks wonder if they were related. TRY THESE btw: What is this thing called love? What is this thing called love? Enhance me, enchant me, dance me, romance me, But what is this thing called love? What is this think called goodbye? What is this thing called goodbye? Deception is natural, the concept deplorable, What is this thing called goodbye? What is this thing called goodbye? What is this thing called goodbye? You said through eternity, Now you mean nothing to me. What is this thing called goodbye? What is this thing called hello? What is this thing called hello? Buried in secrecy, promises known to me, What is this thing called goodbye? Copyrighted 2023byLyndaFayeSoriginals.

No debt, just happened to be the first one, Although my preference is classic and opera I do immensely enjoy jazz and specially singers form the 30,s 40s and 50s, some form the early 60's, I also have a vast record collection that includes among many genres countless and very unique jazz albums, several form Julie London, lovely!!..

How sad that the current music industry - as rich as it is in so many ways - doesn't produce this kind of female vocalist; I suspect that between them the feminist and sexist lobbies have driven them to the wall or at the least discouraged them from pursuing a commercial carreer - if they are still out there. I remember them as "torch singers" and at one time - immediate post 2nd World War - they lit up the lives of so many people men and women - singers like Peggy Lee, Julie Christie were the mainstay of many well-know bands and popular orchestras. Don't get me wrong - there are so many current great young women singers out there that I admire and like - Alicia Keyes, Kandace Springs, Diana Krall, Esperanza Spalding - even Llana Del Rey - but I guess I can think of only Sophie Millman who maybe dabbles in this kind of singing. Still - what songwriter (in his right mind) is going to come up with the lyrics of Cry Me A River now? - and for a woman songwriter to consider it????!!

Of all the female singers who sang the song, "Our day will come", Julie sang it far better than them all. When you hear Julie sing this song, you will agree too, she made that song, "Our day will come" absolutely her own.

The three blokes applauding at the table were Robert Strauss, Joe De Santis, and Frank Gorshin.. Thought I would just mention them in case a anyone was wondering?
Brian Clemison Hi Mr. Clemsion, Thanks so much for your comment! I knew I'd seen the other actors in various films, but never knew their names. I recognized Frank Gorshin right away! Regardless of what role he played, he certainly had a very memorable face! Best to you! varadero
Thanks varadero, you must be a 'spotter' like myself. I get a lot of satisfaction spotting unnamed actors in films. BTW re Robert Strauss his best known role was that of 'Animal' in Stalag 17, Re Joe De Santis his best role imo was the father of Scott Marlowe in A Cold Wind in August. Kind Regards Brian
I thought that looked like the Riddler! Must have been plotting his next crime in Gotham City, and those two guys were sitting in for the Joker and the Penguin.

Pls check this out:

Julie London is great at singing , acting, and love the show Emergency ! I love pleasant, soft, sensual low female vocals!
I'm truly glad to be a man. Her silky voice...Julie still moves and incites me like no other ever since I, a small boy, first heard her on my dad's hi-fi. She is beautiful. Dreamy.

Lyrics:
I don't know why
I made you cry
I'm sorry sweetheart and yet
Though you shouldn't be lenient with me
I hope you forgive and forget
What can I say dear after I say I'm sorry
What can I do to prove it to you, I'm sorry
I didn't mean to ever be mean to you
If I didn't care i wouldn't feel like I do
I was all wrong, but right or wrong I don't blame you
why should I take somebody like you and chain you
I know that I made you cry and I'm so sorry dear
what can I say dear, after I say I'm sorry
I'm so sorry, for me and for you
I'm so sorry what can I do
I made you cry and I'm so sorry dear
What can I say dear after I say I'm sorry
Isn't it sad that most of those people in that room have passed
Don't be sad...we'll all be joining them soon enough.

Lyrics:
WHAT CAN I SAY? / Julie London
(Words by ? / Music by Jeff Alexander ?)
from movie: "The George Raft Story" (1961) / directed by Joseph M. Newman
(intro)
I don't know why
I made you cry
I'm sorry sweetheart
And yet
Though you shouldn't be
Lenient with me
I hope you'll forgive
And forget
...
What can I say dear
After I say
I'm sorry
What can I do
To prove it to you
I'm sorry
I didn't mean
To ever be mean
To you ouh ouh ouh
If I didn't care
I wouldn't feel like
I do ouh ouh ouh
I was all wrong
But right or wrong
I don't blame you
Why should I take
Somebody like you
And shame you
I know that I
Made you cry
And I'm so sorry dear
What can I say dear
After I say I'm sorry
.....
(instrumental bridge)
.....
I'm so sorry
For me and for you
I'm so sorry
What can I do
I heard you cry
And I'm sooo sorry dear
What can I say dear
Aaafter I say
I'm sooorryyyyy.........

Oh good, giving credit to the songwriter! there's another " Alexander" who was a talent agent in Sherman Oaks wonder if they were related. TRY THESE btw:
What is this thing called love?
What is this thing called love?
Enhance me, enchant me, dance me, romance me,
But what is this thing called love?
What is this think called goodbye?
What is this thing called goodbye?
Deception is natural, the concept deplorable,
What is this thing called goodbye?
What is this thing called goodbye?
What is this thing called goodbye?
You said through eternity,
Now you mean nothing to me.
What is this thing called goodbye?
What is this thing called hello?
What is this thing called hello?
Buried in secrecy, promises known to me,
What is this thing called goodbye?

No debt, just happened to be the first one, Although my preference is classic and opera I do immensely enjoy jazz and specially singers form the 30,s 40s and 50s, some form the early 60's, I also have a vast record collection that includes among many genres countless and very unique jazz albums, several form Julie London, lovely!!..

Guess I'm just a perfectionist. Thanks again, and I look forward to hearing from you! Best wishes!
Ach, where was she years ago when I was still living!
Intriguing comment! Even the undead love Julie.
What can I say Im in love but just to late
We watched three of her movies last night; ALL GOOD! Type in "Movies Starring Julie London"...Often, it's just the "natural voice and feelings" coming out-that people think the singer struggled years to perfect. JULIE WAS A NATURAL. So is Norha Jones!
Look up "Hello-Goodby Acapella" sometime; when I sent it to FredGold to make a guitar track-he said "leave it alone, you remind me of Julie London!" A producer years ago named "Mike Mamicose" told me he knew Julie, personally, and HE said I reminded him of her too! ( I can't find him again, btw.) I love the "oldies but goodies", and wish some of the singers hadn't been rushed through the beautiful lyrics so fast...See what you think of "I Fall to Pieces With a Touch of Class---ical guitar " love to hear your opinion. Thank you, merci ... j'aime beaucoup, i like it so much :)
Oh man she is a vision and a siren, she certainly knew what she did and was not sorry, but seduced us out of it with all those sensual promises in that velvety voice
She chose the right song for her "character" too.
TIMELESS..we're still listening to her.
We thought the video played FINE. Sometimes when they COLORIZE films they wreak them...GOOD JOB VARADERO. DO ANOTHER and title it " OLDIES BUT GOODIES AS THEY WERE!"
I'll bet when she said "breakfast is ready, sweetie" she sang it really well!

Diana Krall? Gimme a break!
It's also the microphones used back then
YES, BUT DO try some Norah Jones.

Of all the female singers who sang the song, "Our day will come", Julie sang it far better than them all. When you hear Julie sing this song, you will agree too, she made that song, "Our day will come" absolutely her own.
I'm pretty sure this is from 'The George Raft Story,' made in 1961. Julie would have been 35 years old, but she looks 25.
Thank you for that;

Yes it is The George Raft Story, and we get a peek at Frank Gorshin sitting at a table at 1:50 and 3:29
@@lyndafaye6748 Will do!
The three blokes applauding at the table were Robert Strauss, Joe De Santis, and Frank Gorshin.. Thought I would just mention them in case a anyone was wondering?
Brian Clemison Hi Mr. Clemsion,
Thanks so much for your comment!
Brian Clemison Yes, I was wondering, you made my life complete, thank you 😂
@@brianclemison5782 Thanks for all this info! I remember Robert Strauss as the plumber in "The Seven Year Itch!" lol And nice to know someone else knows about "A Cold Wind in August."
Pure melting sugar cane voice and what a classy lady...
It sounded fine to me, I usually just post the way my albums sound, in analog form and never use filters or pop reducers unless is absolutely necessary, too much interference may take away from the original recording, today everyone wants to digitalize and make things shall we say "antiseptic".. A few glitches is all right my friend. I will have a little extra time this week to view other videos and give you some more comments, take care.
Nossa aquelas pessoas ter que aguentar o fedor daqueles malditos cigarro lá no fundo quê é o problema, música linda.
Kskwkkw yo aguantaria con tal de escucharla así en vivo
