I love watching you make your hot drinks Marina they always look so warming and nice. Your early morning photography is so peaceful. Love to you both and of course to Alba 😊
Hi Marina & Myles- Another lovely film. I really enjoy your orators voice and story telling. And I particularly enjoy your calligraphy scenes too. Perhaps you can film more of these? It’s all very peaceful viewing. It’s like stepping back in time and taking life at a more steady and thoughtful pace. Kind regards, Sophie
Hello guys 😊 thank u for a great vlog, so full of interesting facts and shots of Bath. I remember when l use to caravan and run out of gas l would end up cooking on a bbq and heating water for drinks it happens to us all. Even now l still cook meals on my wood burner. How peaceful the canal looked in the morning with the frosty air and scenic canal, when l was a child l would pretend I was smoking with my frosty breath 😂 how seeing u and ur frosty breath brought back child hood memories 😊. Thanks again have a safe week ahead and hopefully a smooth one on Alba. Xx💜👍
So after a very long and stressful week, it’s time to watch your video, calming and beautiful. It just reminds me that I’m slipping into the rat race again. All the best 😊
Just find a long stick to dip your fuel tank, so you know what the level is. Also need to be careful you don't end up sucking up water from the tank when you get low. If you have a primary fuel filter there is normally a screw or tap to drain of the water from the filter. Couldn't you check with other boaters if they had a spare full gas cylinder and replace it when the fuel boat came along
I can imagine all you want with this cold weather is a warming shower. Boating sure isn’t glamorous, but wow, your views and the places you see, amazing!
You 2 are a delight to watch. I could listen to Marina’s voice all day long, so calming. I look forward to seeing your new vlog every week. Keep up the great work guys and hope bump into you one day on the cut x ❤️
Thanks for the support and appreciation Phil. It really means a lot to us! Reading comments like this makes us feel that maybe we can focus our efforts fully on filmmaking one day! Big big hugs to you 💜 xx
Sorry for the lecture but you really ought to keep the diesel tank as full as possible especially in winter to avoid diesel bug. If you keep a note of the engine hours you will be able to work out how much you have used at roughly 1 litre per hour. Some lovely frosty shots. Good luck with the blacking. I'm having mine done at the beginning of May.
Anything really worth doing in this life is challenging - and you show this in the video. But the moment at 19:14 show why it is all worth it. So many perfect moments in this video - the tree at 2:37 and how about 17:53!!
Hi Julie, we ended up in Bath only because we moved for services every so often and as you see at the beginning of this video we moved a couple of miles only because we couldn’t stay in the previous mooring for any longer (it was a 48hr mooring by the services). The restrictions are still here, so moving for repairs and services only, but luckily the slow journey did take us to Bath in the end!
Great vlog guys! Thanks for taking us along! What's the lead and power bank you use for your laptop? Peggy now working from home but it's got the usual 230v lead 🤦
Stunning!! I'm envious of your life, you seem so at peace with everything. My life is sooooo messed up, not sure there's a fraction on normality anywhere I look.
Hi Rick, goodness I hope you are ok! The best way I find peace is by practicing yoga, meditation and do things that ground me energetically. Life always gives opportunities to throws us out of balance but there are tools out there that can help us to get back to centre. Sending you love 💜 Marina xx
Thanks Lee, my goal this year is to work up to an lovely night sky time lapse, working on it (its impossible from the boat and quite hard to do in most areas). But i’ll get there one day. Marina 💜 xx
Eventually, I will have watched all of your Episodes! I would be very careful when working with Petrol and open fires. Even Embers from an open fire can produce catastrophes! I was wondering if you have smoke/Carbon monoxide detector on board?
Great vlog guys, the drone footage really shows what a lovely area your in. Did you need to get so much diesel with the fuel boat on it’s way? At the start of the vlog you mentioned the moorings only being 2 days max stay. Are they not increased to 14 days in the winter or are we far enough into spring already for that to have stopped? Thanks again Marina & Myles, look forward to fridays 😁
Hi Paul, this was a special stretch where we were only allowed to stay for 48 hour near the facilities. Hope you have a lovely weekend, thanks for watching every week! 💜 xx
@Cruising Alba. You folks do realise you can buy gas cylinders at most larger petrol stations? Just a thought for the future if you ever run low and cannot purchase from a Marina or fuel boat.
Tuff luck, good you have not got a delivery from a land gas supplier arranging to meet at a road bridge or road location, identification either by what 3 words or gps / os reference / postcode. Running out of fuel, perhaps a retro fit fuel gauge maybe a help. Good luck keep safe
Hey you two, we just watched your top tips video, very useful 😀 We got the stand on amazon, let me know if you need the link. Myles is asking where you got your boots from, he was just looking into those ☺️
Oh my goodness, no diesel or propane, and another light frost. Marina, love your early morning shots, mist still hanging on before sunrise. Stay safe and look forward to the next vlog. Deep in SE Texas
Cool video.. I'm heading that direction soon... have you had any bother below the flight? I here that there is quite a notorious recidivist thief that targets narrowboaters..it's definitely worth investing in a bike trailer for future gas a coal runs....great channel as nice editing.
Hi Marina Myles, well I never how dear you run of diesel lol what you like ,I hope you don’t do that again you are lucky it did not cost you new filters worst of all it could have got muck in you diesel pump or injector pump ,so no gas no diesel lolol😂 Bath is a beautiful town been there Many times years ago love to see the mist over the water, tell me when was this video made please,Marina how long have you lived in the uk. Enjoyable vlog as always guys :) I think I spotted some Rooibos in your cupboard - my wife and I have never come across anyone else who drinks it as yet (well not in England). Look forward to the next installment. Cheers Chris
Just a couple of points I wanna raise. Firstly, invest in a little camping stove. Inexpensive and takes up next to no room. Quite adequate to boil water for coffee or a pot noodle, etc. A life-saver here when power cuts happen. Secondly, do you really need Himalayan salt? Some of these rumours of global warming and carbon footprint blahblahblah might turn out to be true and I'll blame the ppl that buy salt from Pakistan. Having said that, my wife insists on tomatoes, celery and peaches all year round without even looking at the packaging until I started using a South African accent..... all day!! LOL Stay safe you 2.
Thanks for the tips Tony! I’d like to think that we all have a choice to either be part of the solution or a problem and all of us have the power to make a difference. I believe the best place to start is to see what we can improve in ourselves and lead by example. Thats what inspires others the most. Big love 💜 xx
Good Nz morning Marina and Myles. Hopefully you didn't have to pay for the callout, just to be told you have an empty diesel tank. You really need someone to offer some good and practical advice. 1. ALWAYS ALWAYS keep your diesel tank full. Particularly through the winter. If not you'll have problems with condensation in which the diesel bug develops. A special additive in the diesel helps. Condensation (H2O) and diesel don't mix. Carry a dipstick...yes that's what it's called, to dip the amount of fuel you have. If you had a fuel guage, that would have been better. Get in the habit of checking your fuel filter. And other filters. It's called maintenance. If only you'd met up with other kiwi boaters, they would have dropped everything to help. Cost you nothing. That's what we're like. Problem being Covid 19. Noone over there. 2. Cooking over a fire box is simple. However I noticed you had the fan running. That sends heat "away" from the stove. While you're cooking, you need the heat AT the stove top. Next time, my advice would be to disconnect the fan. 3. Last but not least. Gas supply. As soon as one cylinder empties, turn it upside down, and that will remind you to fill it at the next available supply depot. And no, it's not dangerous being upside down. It's a good idea to have 1 full cylinder spare at all times. If I was physically with you, I'd be saying the same as I've written. Just advising you..making your life easier. Please be aware, I'm talking TO you. Not AT you. I'm loving your channel. I'm staying with you, if you'll have me. Huge thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe. Atb from down here in Nz.
Hey lovely thank you so much for your advice! 1. Yes we know this only happened cause the fuel boat wasnt running for over a month. Normally the fuel tank is full! 2. Good point, that was my first ever attempt. I wont be doing that again if i dont have to as it made the room colder (it was a cold say) 3. Our gas locker is so tiny and requires a lot of manuevering so the best thing is not to touch it. Unfortunately we run out of gas because of two consequential misforutnes what are the chances? (we have three gas canisters) Hoping this wont ever happen again Have a good weekend 🥰
@@CruisingAlba It's not difficult, lots of options and you get to create and perfect your smells. I do it with Palo Santo and other woods. Just need a decent spice/coffee grinder, mako powder, aroma material, water and either from by hand into shapes or on a stick, or press them out to eliminate the stick which I prefer. I really think you'd enjoy it and you could use things you find along your journeys to use as well for unique and memorable scents!

Myles and Marina, a great Vlog as always. A few challengers along the way for you this week, but you sorted them, and it was great being on the journey with you both. Does a narrowboat not have a fuel gauge? Or do you dip stick it to gauge the level of diesel left? All very interesting. I hope you got your Gas in the end. Did Myles ride back on his scooter with a full gas cylinder? A really enjoyable watch. Take care.
Hi Rod, thank you for watching! We move the boat first and then get on electric scooter or a foldy bike and go get the car. Usually we don’t go too far. Both scooter and bike fit in the boot, then we move the car. We only had the car on the K&A and found parking very easy. A little bit of research and google maps work wonders. The car stays in one place for weeks.
The instant someone says, "It all started on an average Saturday morning," you know something not average is going to follow, otherwise they would not have used the word 'average' in that.
Maybe it is just an effect of me being autistic but Marina with her hair tied back looked like a totally different person there in the clip of getting the bicycle off the bow.
Hmm, had somehow gotten it in my (American) head that Bath, England, was a seaport: maybe I carried over that concept because Bath, Maine, is? But I'm also a railroad fan and remember the Bath and Hammondsport RR in New York where Bath, NY, was not the port. Anyway, looking at Bath, England, on Google Maps satellite view, can see a store between A36 and River Avon I'd like to go to, Hobbycraft Bath.

living off grid is very hard indeed. all is fun and games until you run out of fuel, water or heating .
What a shame we did not meet a little earlier - we were moored only a couple of boats away in Bathhampton and had a spare gas . Loved the video x

Good Nz morning Marina and Myles. Hopefully you didn't have to pay for the callout, just to be told you have an empty diesel tank. You really need someone to offer some good and practical advice.

Yep we do that sometimes
Running out of fuel and gas is just bad management on your part. Bath has fuel stations.
Plus they didn't even realize they ran out of fuel .
The instant someone says, "It all started on an average Saturday morning," you know something not average is going to follow, otherwise they would not have used the word 'average' in that.
Uh-oh, the incense lighter being out of fuel is a foreshadowing of non-average events to follow ...

There's an inspiration for a mystery novel title, "The case of Myles and the diesel in the dark".
...beautiful : )
