- Finally, we decided to get off the Thames to the safety of a canal but we chose a wrong day! We've gone through a strong current, end up hanging by a rope halfway in a weir and witnessed some serious river rapids.

Hi I live near Reading so have walked along that stretch of the K&A many a time. The section through the Oracle shopping centre looks really tricky to navigate. Before the Oracle was built there was talk of straightening it, but that never happened.
Have a good time on the canal. My daughter and I cycled from Bath to Reading a few years ago. There are some lovely sections.

Thank you for showing the work involved on a narrowboat. I found that very interesting. I thought it would be very easy to take care of a small space. I didn’t think about all the things involved, especially laundry!

Yep laundry can be a pain. We consider ourselves lucky we don’t have to look for laundromats but then it takes absolute ages to do it in our tiny semi-automatic machine. But it’s a part of boat life so not complaining too much! 😊

My boat was moored at Better Boating for 4 years, that’s the place where you got diesel. So much feelings seeing you pull up there!

@@CruisingAlba I bought the boat this September, went to Moscow for a month while the boat was on mooring at Better Boaring, then returned and begun a crazy full-on 1-month trip from Reading to London in the rain and with flooded river. I know it's just for fun, but he is not a Captain. It's a professional qualification that takes years of sea time and a great deal of study to achieve. It's a bit like wearing a doctors hat because you've got a first aid kit.

Hi Steve, not so much, the condensation in this episode is from the laundry that is drying inside. One window leaked a tad but its not been fixed 👌

Great video. I cruised the entire length of the K&A in August - same route as you, down the Oxford & Thames. K&A is very hard work, leaky locks and wild mooring which is fine but the pins are continually loosened by speeding boaters.’ You probably won’t have that problem this time of year. The decent secure moorings are generally 48hr duration even in winter. I was going to winter on the K&A but decided to go up the Severn Estuary onto the Gloucester & Sharpness for winter. Great decision. The scenery is beautiful though.

With the heaps of washing and no were to hang it to the terrible flow of the Thames due to the rain, this must of been a big worry for both of u having to keep a constant eye on the water level and ropes. I would like to know what made the two of you make the step to start living on a narrowboat ,maybe you already have this explained somewhere so please point me to it :) i`m new to this channel and this is the first video that i watched and must say that i really enjoy the learning curve the two of you are having exploring the whole boat life and just doing it.

Re the dingy. Why don't you screw some eyelets to the side rails, then fit a sheet of tarp to size hooked to the eyelets and make a pole to sit on the dingy floor giving you a roof pitch and let the water run into the river naturally?

P’s it does get better towards bath and bristol I promise 😂 I did the reading bit of the K&A on a stag do a few years back. We crashed. 🤦🏼♂️

@@CruisingAlba ummmm fairly. So the stag and I got up early and thought we’d get into reading centre for breakfast. We were coming into it the other way to you guys. I was at the helm and didn’t take into account the river coming into the canal. River flow pushed us into the trees on one side and the bow of the boat of course went the other way into a sleeping boat! Oopsy. It was a big enough crash that the two hung over gentlemen sleeping at the front of our boat fell out of bed 😂😂😂 they needed waking up anyway. And the owners of the other boat were very good about it all. Stag do on a canal boat..........fun but dodgy 😂🤦🏼♂️

As I have been watching for a while, I wondered when you were going to get off the river. Predictably you waited a week or so to long.
