Hi NefasQS! Thank you for watching my video! I tried my best to explain what it’s like for a new player. I’m not gonna lie, I understand now why people didn’t take kindly to it. Because having played the game for a month and a half now, really puts me in their shoes. I still stick behind the what you call “pay for convenience” model. Again, thank you for watching my video and I’ll have another out soon!
It really was honestly a solid video, and it's more than fair for people to remind the base that this game can be *rough* for new players.
Always good to have new perspectives! Hope you have a great journey through ESO~
@@NefasQS shut up carebear.
@@virmirus honestly I don't think they can make it any easier without completely removing all challenge. It's supposed to be a bit hard to take down end bosses etc.
@@wynngwynnit has nothing to do with the game being easy. It is confusing and frequently frustrating. I have three degrees, I could barely play until after I'd watched one of these hour+ 'getting started' videos years ago and I still get confused.
The second he blocked that heavy attack. He ascended from noob to top-tier eso player.
Two manning Fungal Grotto with broken equipment. Ahhh, those were the days.
If he thinks nodes harvesting is bad now, he should have started the day the Harpoon's Wading Kilt mythic came out...
HAHAHAHAHAAAHAHAHAHA
After 2 years, i still dont have that lead 😂
@@cedriklorrain8175 I got it the day it came out, spending an entire day fighting 2 people over 1 node spawn location with like a 2min respawn timer. lmao
@@andrewcritchlow2202 HAHAHAHAHA OMG 😂😂
Meanwhile, those of us here since the beginning remember when we paid a sub to play and didn't get a crafting bag, didn't get double bag space, and the only options when your bags were full were go back to a vendor, destroy some shit, or mail it to someone so they could return it.
And we had multiple mules just to hold crafting mats.
Yes, you pay for convenience. Every mmo (when you can even play without a subscription) and a lot of single player games do the same thing. Did this guy start playing video games last week?
I actually related so much to the gathering nodes being stolen right under my nose... As soon as I realize there's another person around gathering in the same zone, I move. Bc they *will* cut ahead and there *won't* be any sharing or polite 'go ahead' even to low level alts. You definitely don't go harvesting as a group; there's no point bc you can't share, even with a party.
I never fight over resources.
That iron ore stealing part got me good😂
It's been a good long time since I have been a new player but I'm kind of surprised he didn't talk about the pain point of just how overwhelming the game can seem. ESO is vast, there are so many directions you can go with it and the devs have for the most part left it to the community to provide newbies guidance. For someone who wouldn't even know what the premise of a guild is, or that gear sets exist to make survival easier, or how to go about optimizing a build, it's a convoluted mess. Sure, gear sets, rotations, etc aren't necessary for knew players but knowing about them even in early stages of the game can alleviate some of the frustration of just trying to not die and feel like you're progressing and accomplishing things.
He makes an extremely valid point about inventory in this game as even a veteran player since release on console, I still encounter this at times, when there's so many viable set combinations between PvE and PvP setups.
He does make a valid point about gathering. This makes ESO feel less friendly than, for example, Guild Wars 2 where players do not steal resource nodes from each other - everyone has their own copy of a node and it disappears for you only when you harvest it, not when someone else does it. Shared nodes can also get quite annoying during some events when quests require you to gather a particular amount of something and there are a lot of players trying to do the quest. And don’t even get me started on water nodes in Shadowfen or strongboxes in Murkmire ;) those who suffered through getting these two mythic items know what I’m talking about
ESO nodes respawn more frequently than GW2 , only thing I kinda get annoyed by in ESO is the no-instanced open work loot chests , GW2 does that better
what about going to another area where that other player is not collecting the mats? :)
No, its not. I am a regular farmer and its rarely ever an issue.
even if i had someonelse farming around my route. there are tons of specific zones to farm like hell anytime of the day. also he didnt know what ahrvest addon is i guess:) also no passives to shine so:)
Calls it trash and yet continues to play it. Yep, he'll fit right in.
I really enjoyed his video. Such a refreshing honest take and I laughed a number of times over his opinions, which were relatable for me at times. Thanks Nefas for sharing this.
ESO Standard (base-game) is $20 USD. I got mine on a steam sale for $11. I played it for a few weeks without subbing and felt like it was well worth it to throw them some more cash for the sub. I used my crown stipend for a mount, and was glad I could try it out without a big investment. It's been 3 years and I'll play off and on, and when I am feeling it out again I'm glad I can do so without paying.
I was kind of surprised at what this new ESO player chose as pain points to highlight in the review. I think I was a year into ESO before a craft bag subscription became necessary... I think maybe 6 months before 1st dungeon (and hated it). I would have expected barebones tutorials and quest confusion to be top issues.
I skipped the tutorial, and 7yrs later I've almost figured out how to play!
I guess to start now, not to know in which area to start, and to change areas quicker, can make bigger issue with luggage than it was at the beginning. When i entered there was no dlc, loot was level framed (eg find only iron in one zone, find steel in next...cant enter next before finishing stuff in 1st etc made it easier to manage luggage). I worked for gold and bought luggage room for gold, a horse for gold, trained it for gold. Grew steady and at times it seemed like working poor in real life, but it was possible. I only had eso+ after like 6 years in the game and primarily for the crafting bag. It helped to be in a crafting guild that shared guild bank space with crafting mats. Still it was a going back to bank and forrh to quest quite often. I understand this is much harder now with much more mats, and as a beginner you dont know what to keep and what to get rid of...
"I found myself so far down a side quester's throat that I couldn't progress anymore because they got so hard"
PHRASING!!!
as for the monetization...
I do think the "pay for convenience" sub CAN be done in a healthy manner...but ESO ain't it
but yeah, even if the game ran bug free and with 0 crashes (a lofty goal in and of itself it seems) and the game was actually well balanced instead of having to pick between "play how you want...provided you're playing brain dead content anyway. if you want to play anything with any modicum of difficulty, you get one build per class, and that's it" (a nigh impossible goal) the monetization is STILL a massive issue. in fact, it is the #1 reason I cannot and will not recommend the game
and unlike the balancing, which I have low expectations, but still have hope of MAYBE happening some day, the monetization has the game doomed in my eyes, because they will not change it
i really agree on the gathering part, just today i logged in and went to my favorite spot to farm ore and Jewlery nodes and there was a player just stealing all the nodes when they spawned it can be frustrating at times. or it could be a bot somebody set up.
on what he said about inventory space, i wonder if he found the bag venture after the video was made
Dudes running a 4 man dungeon with 2 people and wonder why they kept dyin 🤣🤦♂️. And where’s his horse??
I wanna see the guy who says ESO open world is too hard.
Any person that starts the game now and says the initial quests are hard is just a hater. Ooo someone stole my iron node, err just walk a few steps there will be another. Plus all the guilds that spam in the new zones are usually more than happy to make gear etc . Hell he should made a video of giving everyone the poison dot in V SO would of been more entertaining. Ty for the post love the work.
Bro, had a friend who negatively reviewed ESO saying that the game was boring as it had no content other than dungeons while, in fact, he locked himself into powerleveling in dungeons and fully ignored everything else until the end. He then got frustrated for being constantly kicked as all he was doing was just spamming light attacks.
This is why I always discourage new players from starting the game by powerleveling, because most of them don't even know what are they doing nor for what purpose.
I've been playing ESO since 2017. You want to talk about a game that has monetization issues: try Neverwinter!
In 2017 I made Neverwinter my main game and played ESO when the NW servers were down for maintenance. If i could go back in time, I would've done it the other way around. Only beef I ever had with ESO was the confusion in starting the quests, quest bugs, etc. Fast forward to 2023, I've completed every story line in ESO and I didn't have to spend a penny for any optimizations like I did on NW. I LOVE ESO lol it's my main game and left NW for this one.
I am 1400+ cp at pc EU. Only got subscription when it was a free week try.
At first it really was frustrating to manage inventory and bank constantly. But after I found, that horse and bank and bag can be upgraded, spent a lot of gold there, created some more chars for extra space and fun. And now I can play without depending on sub.
BUT
PvP-wise it's a living HELL without myphics and dlc dungeon monster sets and 5-sets. And if you also don't have a guild with craft-hall to craft yourself some good armour....
Oh, I just had a wonderfull trip into my memories about starting experience and all those discoveries that I got...
Great video. In my opinion, ESO is what it is. You like it or you don't and that's ok by me. Sure it has it's downside but I'm sure other games have theirs.
I first started playing when it came out but left after a couple of years for personal reasons. Then after retiring in 2020, I thought I'd try it again and overall haven't been disappointed. I'm not by any means a top player but I try (don't have the dexterity I had, even from a few years ago) so my movement and combat skills are not as fluid as some players (keeps me from trying difficult dungeons/trials, etc.) but I like the stories, the classes, questing, some dungeons, etc.
It passes the time for me and I like the world of Tamreil. I think Zenimax is doing a good job overall. I'm primarily a solo player these days but am always willing to help others in the guilds I'm in with assistance, crafting, etc. In my opinion, it's far from Trash. Happy trails everyone.
The point is ESO has potential others simply don't. ZoS fucked up.
OMG ive not laughed so hard at a review in such a long time! 🤣 I actually cried I was laughing so hard about the nods part
I think what ESO gives for free is incredible. It's unreasonable to want more for free. I started ESO a couple of months ago. I played 1 month free then decided the 10 bucks was worth all the extras. I'm actually doing all the DLC content first. I got the companions and dungeon sets i wanted, so soon I will drop plus and enjoy the base game some more. As far as I can see, there's not much reward for crafting. Most craftables are for sale from guilds, and its cheaper than levelling the skill to make... so you don't need the craft bag. Just leave mats or sell it all.
Also, the 1500 crowns you get for Plus is nice for a bit of retail therapy, Just don't fall into buying crowns for real money.
I got an idea you can pass to them, the same things that they did with skyshards they should do with lore books🤔. The farm is tedious for the people who want whispers on every toon😒.
I'm about a month in to the game, didn't watch any guides/tutorial, only thing I looked up was some build for DK and it has gone so smoothly that at mr200 I just realised that I was supposed to use medium armor the whole ass time so had to make the switch at mr200 from fully leveled heavy armor 😂 I really like the game but, they got me with the freaking inventory scheme scam ffs.. my bank and my inventory was full of crafting mats so much so I had no space for anything else so I bought the eso+ sub, haven't regretted it tho because it opened up the whole game for me, got my Ember healing me now and I'm currently questing in Wrothgar with her..
„Of course I skipped tutorial“ hahaha
Personally I didn't find it deceptive when I first started back in 2020. I've played MMOs since like 2004-2005 when I started with Runescape then went to Guild Wars then Guild Wars 2. I remember thinking I didn't want to pick up ESO back when it started because of some bad reviews plus the subscription fee but as I got older and got a job after college I found the money not a super big deal. On top of the fact that I was GRACIOUS as hell that they removed the fee so you can play almost all the content after just one purchase. My guess is that it took quite a lot for that decision to even be made so that a sub fee wasn't REQUIRED, I dunno, I wasn't around at that point. But in any case, I was so enthralled with the game and the world and community that I was actually dying for a way to show my appreciation HAHA and legit was OK with the subscription fee, it actually does get you A LOT, every dungeon, every DLC, more bank space, crafting bag, discounts on the store, AND crowns sent to your account every subscription period. As such, if you REALLY play a lot of ESO and really enjoy the game, you're definitely getting bang for your buck, period. End of story. A lot of reviewers say the same though: if you love ESO and find yourself playing it a ton, you can't go wrong with the subscription for ESO Plus. Sure you could say "well it's not really fair to free players" but look, real talk, if you're not interested in playing all the DLCs including dungeons and DLC zones and so on, are you really going to be playing THAT much of ESO? Is it really a priority game to that person in the first place? I would suggest that, ESO isn't a game people should want to just have as a backburner game because to get the most out of it, I think personally it's one of those games that either sucks you in and you fall in love or not. As such, buy ESO Plus, JUST DO IT. (Not paid for by ZOS or Bethesda Softworks, statements are mine and mine alone. PS ZOS please pay me!) lmao
This maybe a new perspective but I felt that eso plus players are being punished by non eso plus players due to we all get the same shitty in game rewards.
Games with mandatory subscriptions like wow and ffonline do not have this issue because everybody pays and hence cool rewards is equally earnable for everyone in game.
Why should eso plus members get punish alongside non members with shitty rewards that are not comparable to all the cool stuff behind the crown store pay wall????
I suggest that zos make some of the cool stuff earnable for eso plus members only which will drive more players to subbing and eventually to a point that most if not all cool stuff from Crown store is earnable in game because most players is already subbed and zos will not need to relie on monetization from crown store as much.
I've literally given 10 perfect roe to a random guy. I've given away gold in chat. Vamp bites, ww bites to low level players. I had a lot of cool folks in my eso life early on and I just wanted to pay that forward a little.
Im having flashbacks of when I first started lol
People gather materials at low levels??? I waited until cp160 and fully upgraded bag, it is pointless otherwise.
New playrs dont know that, though.
Most new players say ESO is hard? Who says ESO is hard? An older person who has never touched a game before would be right at home in most of ESOs content.
1:45....You Can Review Something You Never Even View In First Place...Bro Stated He Never Even Done A Dungeon...Sooo This Is Really First Play With A Noobie Not Even A Play Through...A Sample
I do think the new player experience needs a hard rework but I think the nodes thing is just a misunderstanding of why they're first come first serve the way it would impact game economy imagine a sea of bots having free reign with no competition to a resource node 😂
I personally have a bunch of criticisms about the new player experience but since none of them were really mentioned in the video I won't write an essay.
If I didn't read the title and I had the video muted I would have been able to tell this person was a newbie because of how zoomed in their camera is lol
Skipping the tutorial and not paying attention to game mechanics don’t make the game bad. Eso does this on its own in other depts. I think they should make you play through the base game start at least once and not start people in morrowind or anywhere else for that matter.
What he means is like farmer have line and know where the nodes are so one person rush to the node and steal it from him. It does happen specially in crag because people farm potent
He is also right for inventory eso have so much freaking trash to loot, you fo a quest and get useless gear that isnt even a set, and the "treasure" witch are absolute TRASH. and some of those loot are even categorise as trash. No wonder he is trying to quest like every newbie and get is inventory full. If he loots everything he might do 2 runs to town to sell the trash and decraft
best community i have seen after Daoc.
I'm not necessarily a new player to ESO (been playing for a few years) and know my way around but for me personally I oddly find ESO or even Skyrim to be more difficult than a souls game. Can regularly run through a souls game easily and with little to no issue even on max difficulty in dark souls 2 but like I will say that I have been one hit countless times in Skyrim by a bandit of all things even with a full set of daedric and on novice difficulty(either it's supposed to be a difficult game or novice isn't the easiest difficulty) and with ESO it's not as bad apart from a few bosses like this one in the blackwood chapter up north on the map(I believe) that just walked up to me and one shot me and I'm champion level 732 currently with over 22k health and around 15k or so resistance to physical attacks so not sure if I'm tripping or most bosses in ESO are supposed to do that much damage (bs if so). I do like ESO but things like that kills the mood for me and if someone can give me a few hints on how to get more pieces of the deadlands assassin set apart from going on a suicide mission would greatly be appreciated (like looting chests or something in that zone).
4:19...Bro Complain About People Actually Playing The Game... Materials Respond Within Mins...What He Should Have Complained About Is People Making Bots To Farming Materials
Has this guy never played an MMO before? What is he on about? Hahahaha
I have personally had friends not like ESO because the starting zones have so many Elite just taking over starting zones. He has a point. But it's not necessarily unfair. But it is discouraging for a noob.
Yeah $40 for a mount is ridiculous. I bought the quasigriff. I didn't like the price but I like the look and feel of the mount. I believe food should be affordable for all but I'm willing to pay more than $50 for food if I have it though I would say more than $30 or more than $35 is ridiculous. I treat virtual mounts the same. oh btw I hate inflation. I try to look for fair prices, $30 is the magic number for me.
oh and I like the idea of the common(not lavish) meal being $2.50 or less. the common meal now is $15 and thats ridiculous
$30 should be considered a lavish meal not an everyday meal. oh and a 2000's house payment is about $2000. guess what apartments are $3000 a month now. the average person may need low income housing in the future.
Gathering is a problem in starting zones do to bots
I think the infinite craft bag is just average. As a new player, sure, it seems appealing. But as someone who has played the game for multiple years, its nothing special. I rarely do enough crafting to warrant holding onto materials with the exception of gold materials. And when I need to craft, I just buy the mats I need because the mats I need are the mats Im usually missing anyway.
Salvage?
Lets be honest ! ESO is not realistic ! He is 100% correct there ! When is the last time a giant beetle jumped out and tried to eat you ??? . ESO does have its faults ! trouble is what i think is wrong with the game , others think that is the best part .... ESO Cannot be all things to all men , oh and women and kids ... maybe they try to please to many people ??? truth is we all need a moan now and again
Play a game for free?
A game that cost millions to make and you want to play it for free?
Stupidity runs deep.
I mean ESO isn’t trash but when it comes to performance the game is trash. Delay, lag, input lag kill the game for me. The floatyness and lack of build diversity at end game is annoying but I could get over those. The actual hardware that run and control the servers though are ass. The game has many great highlights that make me enjoy the game but if I could have one fix it would be in performance overall. Even PVE lags or has input lag way too often for it to be a 10/10 game.
Mine runs just fine. I play PC and Xbox. I do get some lag spikes on Steam Deck from time to time.
They've also been in the process of upgrading said hardware for the server issues. Stuff that big takes time especially when it's already been out for quite some time.
@@josephtidwell4845 listen I’ll concede that they have said they have been working on it. But they have been saying they are working on it for years now. And the game just get worse and worse. It normally doesn’t take any MMO this long to upgrade their servers. No other major MMO takes years to do what ESO is trying to do. FFonline is a perfect example of it.
@@AbominationKO you’re lying if you say Xbox doesn’t experience these issues to an extreme level. PC is by far better on performance but consoles are far far behind in this department. And even PC has its issues. I mean you could argue that it will get better but at this point it has been years and the same people keep believing that it will get better but my complaint is the amount of time it has taken to fix the issue. Now none of this is taking into account the amount of grime issues with the crown store. Everything they add has to be converted over to the new servers too.
I've had very few performance issues (though not none)
but I have PLENTY of gripes regarding the monetization
they REALLY treading the line on P2W there
Game could definitely be a lot better than it is but I’m not sure what other mmo I would feather play.
Guild Wars 2. A far better version of ESO in almost every way
I second guild wars 2. Its monetization method is much much better than ESO. You just buy one time and thats it you own it forever, no monthly subscription bullshit.
@@xLeeBMC good to know. I’ll have to give it a try. Unfortunately my friends won’t be able to play unless it gets a console port.
@@xLeeBMC looking on their site now. Nice to see they have a dedicated ranger class.
The Devs suck with monetisation over the roof
Every gamer skips the tutorial!
I've only watched a few of your videos. But so far I've seen you show a content creator quiting and this. Do you not enjoy the game? Not be sarcastic. Just wondering
people actually have a hard time with content in this game i feel like you can pretty much just afk half the time i will admit i havent done trials yet but everything else ive touched so far is soloable even the dungeons
I ain't gonna lie I literally never block 😂 I act like I'm playing dark souls naked and just dodge roll like crazy 😂 wait is my guy on xbox I swear I've seen mighty misfits guild trader in vvardenfell
5 minutes chat with experienced player. Quick explanation of damage mechs. Gear sets , pot an bit of food this guy would have nothing to moan about. Starting a new guild as a noob, they’ll miss a lot of knowledge
The best part was right at the beginning when he says “I didn’t even finish my first dungeon yet“. That’s like saying I just started a new job and didn’t even get a promotion yet. What a foreskin.
LMAO what?! XD
ESO = Netflix of MMOs ? 😂
This is what happens when small brain skyrimmers come to eso
Clearly this noob hasn't seen all the resource-node bots in the starter islands that's plaguing Xbox(and probably PC and PlayStation too).
And he complains about an actual player farming nodes...
Not definitive in the slightest, as I've been talking with a guild that's been recruiting real new people. They are enjoying the new game experience more than other MMOs.
Remembering my own experience as a new player, even years ago it was new player friendly. Much better than FF14's new player experience if I'm honest. I wanted to rage quit ARR, Black Desert is too confusing, DCUO, Tera..., All of the ones on console really don't have good new game experiences no matter how good they may get. There is no real denial on how good the new player experience is in ESO, premium services aside. And I'll take that over FF14's pay to play
i don't get it, what's wrong with ff14 for new players?
@@colonian83 all of ARR being as horribly paced, tedious, annoying, and tied to Matchmaking, slow and drawn out as well for no reason, with a post story - Story that drags on way too damn long. It's the worst gaming experience I've had in a decade easily all to get to a decent expansion in Heavensward.
I'm not surprised a community meme spawned from how bad ARR is.
@@Lucy2Juicy hmmm i guess it's the questing portion and pacing that sucks, i do remember the story being pretty interesting but i haven't played ffxiv since i think the launch of endwalker.
i don't understand the matchmaking though, aside from the raids the game forces you to do which honestly kinda suck.
hes right tho it is shit
I don't like the monetization in the game but I accept it. And is really not that bad, it's mostly cosmetics, mounts, and some quality of life things. Most of gamers feel like the initial purchase of the game is enough then expect years of updated content from the devs but it doesn't work that that way.
Most of us who play even somewhat regularly pay for ESO Plus and the chapters.
Is it really okay for a company to attempt to gouge its customers as much as possible while delivering a semi-functional product?
The (very cheap) base game combined with an optional sub and yearly chapter updates is, IMO, a reasonable model for a game like this. And yes, plus is optional, you don't have to craft.
I guess what people don't like is the crown store, but honestly even that is ok with me (like, I wouldn't spend £100 buying a house but it's completely optional and up front), the only aspect I really dislike is the loot boxes. And whilst I've never used them I do they loot boxes should be banned in games in general.
No offense to Nefas, but I can’t listen to this kid in this video.
Nefas is content starved Lmao
ESO is garbage and won't be remembered
Gatekeeping is so hard in this community. You guys think you’re the ones Zos wants to listen to, but you aren’t. You’re already in the game. They want to change the game to be better for people who want to get into the game.
It actually pains me watching this community. And makes me want to pull away from all the arrogance.
@Ice Cold Killa nope I’m talking about ESO as a whole. Nobody ever wants to talk about fixing the new player experience, because “Obviously MMOs aren’t right for them” or they just don’t know the game like you do right? It’s easy, just as long as they know everything you know.
@@OffBrandChicken there’s so many guides at this point there’s no excuse besides laziness.
@@Zeorymer300 Not about what's on TH-cam. I shouldn't have to go outside the game to learn mechanics about the game. And I have 3000 hours in this game, this isn't coming from an inexperienced person.
@Fusionfz I’ve played the tutorial. It’s very basic.
@Fusionfz if you don’t see that you’re being a gatekeeper right now, then I can’t help you. And this game will only get worse because of it. Stay in the jerk off circle and don’t ever let anyone new actually give criticism.
My veteran review of their newbie review: “Your opinion is trash”
