I love using these ingredients for moulding. There is just one component that I add to hide the STRONG smell when its hot...and so I add vanilla essence.
How is your final product coming out so clear and transparent without that typical yellow tint you find on other recipes? What’s causing it to come out so clear? Amazing!
It is a food safe mold that kids can have fun with. It can be remelted, yes. You can adjust the Glycerine to reduce the 'stickiness', or add cornstarch coating, lot's of options to to try. Enjoy experimenting!
Id say the stickiness of the mould is not what one is after, but considering this is primarily a cheaper alternative, stickiness can just be ignored :)
I have a question does glycerin preserve the gelatin for a long duration? And second does it change the property of the gelatin? I'm looking for a preservative for my ballistic gel so it can be stored unrefrigerated. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.
You know this is going to end with...try it, and let us know. Glycerin is a humectant (holds water), used in so many applications, including those soft bake cookies. The same is true for gelatin, glycerin softens it and makes it flexible. Glycerin will in time, work out, but that takes years. I buy it by the gallon for my bioplastics (protein and starch backbone polymers). Glycerin has no bactericidal efficacy, and can even promote bacterial growth if not used with alcohol, as I used in the WHO formula video I posted. I suggest that you search for alternative humectants if you plan to not refrigerate your ballistic gel for more than 3 hours. One trick I use to retard bacteria is Thymol (thyme herb) and is what is in Listerine to kill bacteria. Hope this helps, if not, email me and we can hammer on this together.
@@GEOsustainable heck yea sounds good i make my own soft plastics now but i want to some how mimic a gulp lure that when its left out it shrinks up, but soon as you throw it back in it soultions it expands back to its normal shape all while it absorbs the fluid its in! i was thinking toy gummie bears ...i'd like to use them as inclusions for slimes. people are using resin pieces to add as a topper to your slime creation, & they use foam & clay pieces, i want to make little squishy pieces that way they're soft & pliable or bendable like the slimes as you mash & squeeze them. plus if you're into slimes then you're probably also into squishies. the squishy toys are harder & expensive to DIY, unlike the slimes, and so its thrilling to handmake squishies, especially the clear ones.
I am looking for a negative for casting. I want the mass to be completely non-toxic (fumes) - preferably edible :) And it would be good to be reusable.Until I found this movie. I plan to make a figure from plasticine / clay Monster Clay type. I will probably make such a wax plasticine myself, because there are recipes for it. If I am not satisfied with the effect, I will buy Degas (cheaper version of plasticine than Monster Clay). The casting, on the other hand, will be plaster at the end. Could it be any gelatin?. Apparently Agar Agar binds more strongly than gelatin. Did you check it?
I did not check it. I bought some, but the Gelatine was handy. Agar has a higher melt temperature, but everything else should be the same. Depending on your application, the mold should be reusable. Even if not, you can use this over and over again for your negatives.
I forget how much I added, but when I made some of this stuff -- well over a year ago -- I added vinegar to it. Still sitting in the jar (not refrigerated, the whole time), with not a spot of mold on it!
It depends on the thickness, and the hardness you want. The factors that will be variable are the thickness and the amount of Glycerin. For hardness, I demonstrate a food packaging version here: th-cam.com/video/6WNHoKeFQUU/w-d-xo.html

What temperature suitable for the heating process?
Hi😊 can I use this for my diy beeswax?
can i add fish attractant scent to it??
Thank you for sharing. Do you think I could to use Agar Agar instead of the gelatin?
Yes, many folks do. I would guess you are making 'cold process soaps'?
Would this work for resin?
Hello, love the video! Do you know how to make it hard like acrylic? Do you know how to make bioresin? Many thanks!
No, sorry. I don't work in either of those medium. I am glad you enjoyed. I do work in other medium if you want to give a look.
I have another question lol, do the molds ever go to waste? In how long? Thanks
I can't say, I have never really used these much.
Can this be used to make a mold of your teeth like with dental trays filled with alginate... or will the heat of your mouth not allow it to harden?
try it and see. let us know.
I’m wondering why I would want a sticky mold. Or is the point that, unlike the usual silicon molds, this material can be melted down and recast?

I have not, but this method should work well enough. I do work with plaster and this works great for it.
Hi
I wonder how hard I can make this material. this is very important to me, I would appreciate it if you help
Well, then, let's discuss your requirements via email. Replies to a reply don't get a notification. My email is posted in the description.
What is an additive be added to gelatin to dissolve in cold water?
You must be joking, it melts at 100F
So it can be add to a material as catalyst

Hi, does the glycerine need to be 100% pure? I see some are sold as 99.5% which are cheaper and wonder if one could get away with that one. Thx
Yes, 99.5% is fine. That is what I use. I use Glycerine made for live stock (cow and horse).

yes

Thanks! I wonder if agar agar can be used instead of gelatin. Agar agar cannot be re-melted that easily, though. And this might be an advantage too.

As someone that hot walked thoroughbred horses at Churchill Downs as a boy, I can say for sure it does not smell like horses, running or done running.
