The Perfect Run was legitimately one of the most frustrating but rewarding levels I ever played in any Mario game - it absolutely deserves its top spot here. Mario Galaxy 2 really deserves an HD release because it legitimately has some of the best level design in all of Mario.
You make it sound like every level in Mario is hard. They aren't. There are hardly any hard levels in Mario games. Mario games are very easy but they are very fun
@@mattiasolsson1523 they're right. mario games are generally easy. the levels in this video are the exception, not the rule. also, since when did hard equal bad?
I was hoping you would bring up the pachinko level in Super Mario Sunshine. Not just because of how much of a pain it is to beat, but because of that episode of Game Grumps where Arin attempted it. That meltdown he had, when he just barely missed the shine and died was a real side splitter.
Who else remembers the old version with only ten picks? I’ll always remember that opening line: “Mamma Mia! Where did all my lives go?” Simply put, hearing some portions of that video reworked for this one felt very nostalgic.
@@videogameguy101 It’s definitely worse, because the process of getting there is hell. Even if you don’t accidentally fall while hopping across boats on Yoshi, it’s still such a long trip. The pachinko shine is annoying, but it’s easily accessible from Delfino Plaza, so you can just keep trying without worrying about lives
@@videogameguy101 as amanda said, you have to take a couple boats around the hub world as yoshi, so it takes like 5 minutes to get back to the level after every failed attempt. it's infuriating and I drowned my yoshi so many damn times.
About rank 4: How can they say that C-3 is "not even the most brutal stage the game has to offer" and then not bring "the most brutal stage" in this list on rank 3, 2 or 1?
Having beaten all the ones here that I have played, most of the list, makes me feel better about the time I spent doing it. (Of the top four only one of them I haven't played)
Lily Pad Ride in Super Mario Sunshine. What makes this level a pain is that long ride you have to take on The boat with color Yoshi just to get to the level & if you die you've got to do the Yoshi ride all over again.
I keep seeing "Red Coins over the Rainbow" as being on lists of Mario levels that are hated/hard but I completely disagree, I think it's pretty easy, all you have to do is keep grabbing the wing cap & use the cannons to fly around the level, simple! I can understand that Mario being hard to control while flying can be an issue but I still find that level easy.
One thing not mentioned about the lily pad level in Sunshine is the troll the game does to you with the pipe at the end of the level. Since it is basically impossible to get all the red coins on your first attempt given the insane difficulty and finicky controls, pretty much 100% of players will reach the end platform and encounter the pipe where they will presumably think “ok, I’ll just go in there to return to the start of the level and try again.” Nope, it exits the level completely and kicks you out away from the island entrance. This wouldn’t be so bad except for the convoluted process one has to go thru just to get to the level of using yoshi to ride a chain of extremely slow moving boats across the water, and any missed jump is instant death for yoshi. The whole process is simply maddening and as the frustration of multiple attempts mounts, it only increases the impatience you feel, thus leading to a rush to try and get thru it and a vicious cycle of mistakes. I got trolled by the level ending pipe the first time I played it when the game was initially released and immediately rage quit in anger. Eventually I did beat it and then didn’t play the game again for over a decade until it was re-released on the Switch…at which point I had forgotten the issue with the end of level pipe and got trolled by it again. The second it happened I immediately remembered my previous ordeal with the level and felt whatever the opposite of nostalgia is. I had no option but to reenact younger me’s reaction, and promptly rage quit the level for what I hope is the final time!
In the lily pad level in Sunshine the lily pad actually respawns after it disintegrates. While tedious, if you miss a coin you can walk back to the beginning and try again to get the coins that were missed
I really think Rainbow Ride is more difficult than Tick Tock Clock. I agree that Wing Mario Over the Rainbow was infuriatingly hard. Tower of the Wing Cap is a level I consider very hard because of both difficult flying controls and the fact that you had to get 8 red coins before the Wing Cap wore off due to it being impossible to fly back up to the elevation of the red coins without a cannon.
I personally found champions road to be harder than the perfect run. Perfect run I beat when I was a freshman in high school and it took me a little over 20 attempts when I beat champions road as an adult with almost 60 attempts. Shoutout to levels like mystery house marathon in 3d world and vanishing road rush in Mario odyssey, 2 insanely difficult levels for me as well
I love Mario so much I watch my brother play most of the games because they are too hard for me but I truly enjoy watching him play! We are both such huge Mario fans 😊❤️✌️
9-7 and Grandmaster Galaxy were two of my most played levels on the Wii games. I loved trying to beat 9-7 as a speed run and getting all 3 coins, while the perfect run is just a perfect level.
What makes TIC TOK CLOCK especially challenging is the fact that the fregging camera is askwued (I misspelled it, I know) on this level and never above looking downward so you can get a better view of your positioning.
I’m amazed that rainbow ride from super Mario 64 didn’t make this list. That level made me throw the control so many times…and still does to this day hahah
In no particular order, here's some more that I found very stressful, many of which I still haven't been able to complete: -World 8-4 (NSMBW): Imagine playing a water level, but there's three sections with no checkpoints, the entire thing is in the dark, and the few power-ups present are placed right next to enemies that I swear were deliberately placed to make you get hit right as you grab the power-up -Mystery House Marathon (SM3DW): I genuinely believe this stage was harder than Champion's Road. At least that level was fun and rewarding; this one's just a collage of thirty timed Green Star sections in a row. While the individual sections aren't hard, much like The Perfect Run the challenge comes from doing it all in one go -Cashless Castle Crawl (NSMBU Challenge Mode): A very similar vibe to Don't. Touch. Anything., that makes up for its lack of Lakitus and moving platforms with Superstar Road-8's pendulum obstacles and swinging platforms that have lines of coins on top of them -Jump Rope & Beach Volleyball 100-Point Moons (SMO): Putting the glitch exploit for the Jump Rope challenge aside, both of these require you to perform a miniscule action 100 times in a row; the problem is, in both of these the pace of the level quickly intensifies as you go -The Trial Galaxies (SMG): These three levels consist of harder recreations of previously seen Galaxies; which of these three is the hardest is up for debate, but generally speaking most players will find at least one of these challenging (for me, Loopdeeswoop was easy, and Bubble Blast and Rolling Gizmo were hard) -Corona Mountain Blue Coins (SMS): While not technically its own level that awards you with a Shine Sprite, it might as well be given these coins' similar challenge to that of the Lily Pad Ride's Red Coins
@ZephyrionGames bro I'm TELLING YOU 😭. I spent like 3 or 4 days on that and I had to keep coming back or I would lost my sanity 😂. There was literally ZERO room for error. I usually made it through the first time. It was always after coming back the other way and the giant one chasing me where the problems came 😭
Long Journeys End in Odyssey was challenging for sure but at least I can say I’ve cleared that level twice. To this day I have yet to complete The Perfect Run, Champions Road and Special 8-Crown
Special 8-Crown is hard but workable. I beat it after about 20 tries. The Perfect Run made me drop a few s-bombs and get really frustrated, whereas Champion's Road is about the only level to make me rage at all (nothing too bad, just yelled a few f-bombs and gd-bombs, I even threw the controller across the room a couple times, not my proudest moment).
Before watching the video, it honestly has to be between The Perfect Run Comet in Grandmaster Galaxy or Champion's Road. After watching though, one level I'm surprised that wasn't mentioned was the 'Run For It' in New Super Mario Bro U's star world. While I would put it in the lower end of the list, it is tricky to maintain the running for the whole level, not to mention how perfectly you have to touch the P-switches.
The lilypad level in Sunshine is not that bad once you figure out the controls. The key is stearing by shooting forward to turn and slow you down at the same time to not miss a red coin. Just don't keep your speed down the whole time or the lily pad will be destroyed by the acid before you finish.
Special 8 Crown - I used to struggle with jumping on that Toad, because I wasn’t aware you were supposed to hold onto the button. I could never beat Champions Road without a tanooki leaf!
Am proud that I've beaten all of the Mario games 100% from Mario 64 to current. Favorite one on this list was the Prefect Run on Galaxy 2. Only pre-Mario 64, while I beat the games, I didn't 100% those, but I was very proud of beating Super Mario the Lost level.
I remember this level in Super Mario Sunshine ! First I have to find a fruit for Yoshi Second I’ll go to boat with Yoshi Then there’s lava in the pipe so Yoshi will use this juice to make the lava disappeared so we can go in And finally we made to the hardest level ever ! I’m glad I finally made it !
For anyone even debating Perfect Run vs Champion's Road, allow me to explain why Perfect Run is much harder: 1. You must play it alone, so you can't die and let your friends continue the level for you. 2. You only receive 1 power-up with limited use for 1 section of the level, so no pulling out an extra power-up that you stored. 3. You cannot get hit even once, whereas in Champion's Road, you can get hit multiple times. Champion's Road is an incredibly tough level on its own, but Perfect Run ups the anty by removing the training wheels.
I like how watchmojo reused the same script from their old top 10 hardest Mario levels video from 2016.😂 I remember the "this why many angry video game nerd would consider this level hell" for world 8 airship, which is a reference for an AVGN epidosode when he made conspiracy theory about SMB3 being satanic.
Out of the levels on the list, the impossible pack is the only one I haven’t been able to beat, and I’ve never played Don’t Touch Anything. The hardest level that I have beaten is Champion’s Road. I don’t know why but this one was significantly harder to me than The Perfect Run, perhaps because you first play an easier version of The Perfect Run, whereas you’re thrown in the deep with Champion’s Road. The boost panel section of Champion’s Road still haunts me lol
The footage you got was halfway there on cheesing tubular in Super Mario World. Get the cape feather and get blue Yoshi because blue Yoshi will get wings and be able to fly regardless of which color koopa he eats so those flying red paratroopers eat one of those and you just fly through the whole level.
As if doing the Lily Pad lvl in Sunshine wasn't difficult enough, getting to this lvl makes it kinda worse. Waiting on those very slow moving boats is pretty annoying. If only Yoshi's relationship with water was as good as it was in Galaxy 2.
Heh. I remenber that in the end the best way to beat the lilypad level in sunshine is to not use the lilypad at all. Just walk along the edges and use flood to get the coins.
Honestly Super Mario Bros 2: The Lost Levels is painful, but once you get probably around the 8th and 9th world, it becomes somewhat more managable. Still, no wonder such a game Nintendo created would be punishing to the point it never got a NA release...
The thing with The Perfect Run is that if you practice each section it’s not that challenging. It’s just the fact that you can’t get hit and also Long Journey’s End and Luigi’s Purple Coins aren’t difficult. I mean I can beat those on my first or second try
There's so much wrong with this list I'm as shocked as I am upset 😮😡: 8-Fortress isn't that hard, Lily Pad ride is too low and objectively harder than Pachinko Machine, Tick Tock Clock shouldn't be here, replace 8-7 with 8-8 or 8-Tower 2 for NSMB, Tubular is too high, Replace Luigi's Purple Coins with Battlestation's Purple Coins, You should mention that Lost Levels C-3 is 7-3 from the same game but with a Lakitu, Impossible Pack is harder than The Perfect Run(what's worse is you don't even give a valid reason on why the Perfect Run is harder)
The Perfect Run. Good God I hated that level. It’s always the part with the enemies spitting coconuts, the circular lasers and the disappearing platforms that kept screwing me over.
Long Journey’s End is a frustrating level, but at least you can’t get a Game Over in Super Mario Odyssey. Seriously though, Nintendo removed the lives system from the game and replaced it with a mechanic where you lose coins if you die and even if you’re out of coins, you still don’t see that dreaded 8-letter message
not THAT frustrating, first of all, you can skip 2 of the sections, by simply flying past the warp pipe with Glydon, and then also around the Bowser painting section, if that isn't enough for you, you could always turn on ASSIST-mode, which gives you 6 lives to start, if you get hit, just stand still and it will refill your live count back to 6, if you fall in a pit or die from lava, you will be put back at the last solid piece of ground you were on.
World 9-7 is one of the most memorable, iconic, and hardest level in Super Mario Bros Wii and the franchise as it was absolutely and positivity frustrating stressful and difficult on so many levels 😡😡😡😡😡 as I literally died 20 times especially trying to get that 2nd and 3rd star coin. I just beat it today ☺️ which made me definitely and completely happy as I got all of the star coins in the whole entire game as I felt like I accomplished something due to me not giving up on myself as I have tons of motivation and determination within me in order to conquer my goal. 😍💯😎👍
It is pain, I agree. I died about 120 times before I beat it the first time. For reference, I died about 70 times on Luigi's Purple Coins, and about 200 times on World 8-4 from Lost Levels.
I beat the lily pad level on sunshine by using the ledges and timing your flood pack. Makes it way easier. I only use the lily pad for the first four coins or so. The watermelon festival to me is the hardest level in the game. More so than pachinko.
One time a week I go in champions road with 2 tanooki's thinking this is the day that I beat it in one try, but every time I die 10 times during that god damn speed panel section
The Perfect Run will forever be embedded in my childhood but yet I still remember beating it for the first time and I have never been so excited in my life and also at the time I rented this game from Blockbuster so I made it a mission to make sure I beat the freaking game before I returned it LOL😂😂

Some of these were ruthless, but I still had me some great fun. Frustration as well, but still fun.
In no particular order, here's some more that I found very stressful, many of which I still haven't been able to complete:
-World 8-4 (NSMBW): Imagine playing a water level, but there's three sections with no checkpoints, the entire thing is in the dark, and the few power-ups present are placed right next to enemies that I swear were deliberately placed to make you get hit right as you grab the power-up
-Mystery House Marathon (SM3DW): I genuinely believe this stage was harder than Champion's Road. At least that level was fun and rewarding; this one's just a collage of thirty timed Green Star sections in a row. While the individual sections aren't hard, much like The Perfect Run the challenge comes from doing it all in one go
-Cashless Castle Crawl (NSMBU Challenge Mode): A very similar vibe to Don't. Touch. Anything., that makes up for its lack of Lakitus and moving platforms with Superstar Road-8's pendulum obstacles and swinging platforms that have lines of coins on top of them
-Jump Rope & Beach Volleyball 100-Point Moons (SMO): Putting the glitch exploit for the Jump Rope challenge aside, both of these require you to perform a miniscule action 100 times in a row; the problem is, in both of these the pace of the level quickly intensifies as you go
-The Trial Galaxies (SMG): These three levels consist of harder recreations of previously seen Galaxies; which of these three is the hardest is up for debate, but generally speaking most players will find at least one of these challenging (for me, Loopdeeswoop was easy, and Bubble Blast and Rolling Gizmo were hard)
-Corona Mountain Blue Coins (SMS): While not technically its own level that awards you with a Shine Sprite, it might as well be given these coins' similar challenge to that of the Lily Pad Ride's Red Coins
The one that gave me the most problems was that bullet bill level in Super Mario Odyssey. I was getting pissed 😂

For anyone even debating Perfect Run vs Champion's Road, allow me to explain why Perfect Run is much harder:

Tubular man, that level is the one that i always beat by luck. It was brutal
I also played champion's road. And it taked me like 1 week to complete that level. Was so frustrating, and I had to pass it with stella lol
The Special 8-Crown will be easy as long as Mario wears a Tanooki Suit and an extra Tanooki Suit in the item.selection.
Number 9 gives Arin Hanson PTSD flashbacks.
When I return to mario games, I love playing through some of these levels
We need to add Climb to the Beat to the list
💀💀💀
Exactly lol
The moment you rage at a hard mario level makes you want to chuck your controller against the wall or the TV screen
I really hate that Lily Pad Ride. I actually recalling rage quitting that level. Super Mario Sunshine was a lot more brutal than I remembered.
I hope they keep making mario games in the 2100’s
Its probably the best video game franchise ever
I love the “Angry Video Game Nerd” joke you made lol
Heh. I remenber that in the end the best way to beat the lilypad level in sunshine is to not use the lilypad at all. Just walk along the edges and use flood to get the coins.
funny, i have never played Sunshine (as of yet) and that's the first thing i thought of trying to do while watching this video....
My favorite Mario game is New Super Mario Bros. U. I can't wait to see the movie. 👍
There's so much wrong with this list I'm as shocked as I am upset 😮😡:
8-Fortress isn't that hard, Lily Pad ride is too low and objectively harder than Pachinko Machine, Tick Tock Clock shouldn't be here, replace 8-7 with 8-8 or 8-Tower 2 for NSMB, Tubular is too high, Replace Luigi's Purple Coins with Battlestation's Purple Coins, You should mention that Lost Levels C-3 is 7-3 from the same game but with a Lakitu, Impossible Pack is harder than The Perfect Run(what's worse is you don't even give a valid reason on why the Perfect Run is harder)
But you skip the ENTIRE level in the 1.0 version by a where glitch with a frog, where you swim through the air to the skyscraper.
I just can't agree that the Perfect Run is harder than The Impossible Pack or Champion's Road without the Tanooki Suit.
Champions road was the hardest for me without a doubt. That level will drive you to drink !
Awesome from Super Mario World, Bowser’s Castle from New Super Mario Bros Wii
1:18
Wing Mario Over the Rainbow isn't that hard. What's really hard is Tower of the Wing Cap.
The perfect run is an absolute nightmare.
I had forgotten about some of these levels
the cave castle(castle 3) the one that starts with wizards shooting at you, was the one i always had trouble with
Once I got the trick with the clock and the entering time Tick Tock clock was one of my favourite Levels at Mario 64
4:08 the only good thing about this level imo? At least it gave us a cool Mario Kart stage
Never finished a Mario game 😂 After getting halfway though it’s always back to world 1-1
Later mario games allow you to save after every single level.... how have you not beaten one yet?
Original one was a pain especially those fishes
“HERE….WE…GO!!!””
I ain't gone lie some of these mario level made see fire and smoke popping out of my man they got me frustrated
2:17 when the teacher is trying too hard to be cool.
Tubular was a particular bane of my childhood
And to add salt to the wound for the “Don’t Touch Anything” challenge. There is an invisible block you can accidentally hit
That mario 64 flying level was a pain to do
Number 1 - Every created level in Super Mario Maker
