I find it hard to realise it is 4 years since I made my first comment, and it is such a joy to watch and listen.I do not want to appear unctious ,but there is nobody out there as good as Von Stade.
I’ve performed with all three of these great artists when I was a kid in the Met opera and NYC opera children’s choruses. They’re all wonderful and likable people who happened to have amazing voices.
Hadley never sounded better. At this stage the voice was only slightly pressed with a radiant Italianate sound. His work here is gorgeous. Ramey sounding full and virile yet relaxed where he needed to be. Von Stade sings with an open silver flute sound, lightly incisive boyish soprano tone only touching on the low notes. Her voice has more of a soprano sound than that of a contralto. Always polished yet here with a voice more firmer than that of the 70’s - early 80’s where it was far more more fluttery. She shines as the headliner here with great assurance, charm and an incredibly comforting effect on every number. This created a soothing blanket of security for the listener that was welcome. A treasure trio gala.
I love each of these people. Henry suggested I become an operatic tenor, which is exactily what I did. Jerry was a personal friend. Flika studied in Venice with a voice teacher I studied with for six summers. Samuel became a friend. This is the way to sing: each floats from piano to forte and back again. I can listen to this for years and never tire. We are life, and each in their own way, has made life better.
Che voci!!! Tre timbri completamente diversi che si amalgamano perfettamente insieme nei terzetti, se separati, brillano ciascuno del proprio colore. 💥🌈🌈 ❤
I remember watching this performance on PBS.I wish I was able to rewatch every performance that was broadcast, especially all he Richard Tucker Gala specials.
I met Hadley in 82 I believe when he sang Hoffman at SFO. super nice guy and I enjoyed his performance more than Domingos who was alternating the roll. The star of that production though was Tracy Dahl whose doll was simply fabuco!!

Jerry Hadley's singing is superlative.
Flicka has such a slow and serene legato, one could fall asleep listening to her.
Bravissimi!!! The final aria, with Von Stade, was fantastic. I liked Lewi's conducting very much.👏👏👏💯💯💯
Quel travail ! Mais quel résultat ! Superbe ! Merci❤

An opera that deals with a French civil war.
