His voice had such a bright ringing tone and I'm so glad I got to see him at the Met several times.

Beautiful voices, breathtaking performance. I am three years younger than Show Boat, my mother loved to sing, and she sang all of the songs to me. Fond memories!!

Of course B, if you meant Sam Ramey, l feel that if l could ever sing like that, l would be a man. But l never will. I don't know how he developed that incredible low voice while beginning a career. But he did it and it was miraculous. This is a group of fine singers led by the late GREAT Henry Lewis (taking a vacation from showing the eorld how Rossini should really sound). What a pleasure to hear them all doing justice to one of the greatest American musicals!

Marveleus performance.Flika sings both Magnolia and Julie. But I think that Marilyn Horne could have sung Julie. Ramey and the unforgettable Jerry Hadley were amazing.

I agree and would love to have heard Ms. Horne as Julie. Perhaps she didn't care to work with her ex-husband. Jackie forever!!

At 35:46, von Stade messes up the order of lyrics (she sings "noble head and giant brain" which kills the next line's rhyme) but she just keeps going like the pro she is and I bet most people would never even clock it.

I just hope that that thing with the air rifle was an accident. Jerry Hadley was my main man (among many others). Once I start singing like him, there is going to be no stopping me.

Better find a teacher who used Stanley Method. That is how Tommy Loonaco taught Jerry Hadley to sing the way he did.

Unfortunately not an accident, I think. Life imitating Art? The WERTHER thing.
Love him so much! He's such a pure spirit.
He said that singers must learn by listening to the great singers of past generations. He's absolutely right. Listen! You don't imitate them but learn from how they do things. And listen to yourself critically. You'll get there.

Where did you find the performance? I've been trying to find a DVD or something of Flicka & Friends for months, but I got nothing. Please tell me how you found the performance & if there are any DVD's or anything of this performance out there.

      I got it from a friend - I think it’s a recording of a TV broadcast

      Com a sua mãe, talvez?
Se não viu, o regente é nada mais que o primeiro marido da Horne, mas né, o lacrador tem que vir cagar a página de comentário de um material como esse.
