I was blessed to have been at the opening night of this production at the Met in early 1990. Sam and Ferruccio Furlanetto alternated their roles and I ended up going three times that season. Dustin Hoffman was in the audience for one. Man, do I miss that lovely Zeffirelli production!

Secondo me è uno dei migliori Don Giovanni di sempre Ps: peggior Don Giovanni: Terfel Non è credibile su Don Giovanni, dato che è brutto e grasso. Ma su Leporello funziona.
Actually, it does, in the first line: till they have their head(s) hot with wine, referring to the effects of excessive drinking on one's head: the dizziness, the headache and so on.
@@vincenzoanzoletti1296 The 'champagne' aria mentions wine in the beginning but the remainder of the long number is about adding more women to the 'list' (at least 10 more). Don is not actually interested in drinking and does not mention drinking at all in the aria, nor is there any drinking in Mozart-Da Ponte's staging instructions. Unlike the 'brindisi' party in La Traviata, this is a sex party for unsuspecting females.
@@papagen00 I know the Don is not interested at all in drinking, but only in sex, I only wanted to highlight there is a reference to drinking in some way. Moreover, I do not think the reference to wine is so irrelevant, because wine might serve as a distraction for male guests while Don Giovanni is having fun with the various wonen. Mine is just an interpretation, though. Don Giovanni was one of my first loves, when it comes to opera, after the Magic Flute. Have a nice day, Vincenzo.
This amazing singer sang at my wedding when he was in college at Wichita State University. He was this good way back when, in 1968. sigh
So cool!
Very neat story!
Awesome story! How was his hair back then?
Viewers my age and younger would know him from Over The Garden Wall where he plays the Beast.
Magnificent ❤️❤️❤️
I think he's my favourite Don Giovanni.
Sublime Samuel Ramey que j'ai toujours aimé !!!
Grande Ramey!

Ramey has lungs for sure! Maybe the sports he was practicing helped.
Vino Forever
Bravissimo!

Great and wonderful voice indeed. But he doesn't sing the phrases precisely this evening
大哥作为一个美国人,意大利话也很牛屄
Funny this 'champagne' aria says absolutely nothing about drinking 😂😂
