Nice to see another Irish Enfield owner! Have had my RE GT650 since 2022, absolutely love the bike, have been riding for 25 years and it gives me one of the largest smiles I have ever had on 2 wheels.
Hi Andrew. Fiona and I own 2 interceptors. Both 2019 with similar mileage now. Can’t fault them in any way. They are honest bikes with minimum to no gizmos on them.
Thank you Fiona for your absolutely honest opinion on the RE Interceptor.. having only recently decided to consider this bike, and having reviewed many on TH-cam, i have absolutely gained some honest insights.. so thank you..
Good to see and hear a fellow black-tank Interceptor owner. I was an avid biker in my 20s (BSA 250, Triton, Trident) but like Fiona had a long break. Then, after 38 years without even thinking about bikes, I saw an Interceptor, with its Trident-like sloping block. I was smitten and soon bought one. What a great machine - just like from the 60/70s with stuff to polish, but without the oil-leaks, numbing vibration, break-downs, and it has an unearthly first-time Prince of Dark-start function ! I think Fiona would do well to spend a few days in North West Wales on her way to France. I live in Bethesda on the A5 through Snowdonia and its just some of the best biking country - from moor to mountain to coast to countryside - to pick and mix in a day ride ! Its even better with an Interceptor friend living a mile down the road. The Interceptor's stuffy, bulky exhaust IS ridiculously over-weight - but does sound good. Single-skin headers would save another 3 Kg and then it feels as nimble as a Bonnie. My next (cheap) mods are remove tank badges for gold 'Royal Enfield' lettering, ally headlight brackets and chrome bullet indicators and mudguards to add even more class to a classic twin. Royal Enfield's next winning mod must surely be an 850 cc version with revised cat exhaust (and a black tank-gold lettering order option). I hope Fiona's sense and style encourages more women into motorcycling - they don't know what they're missing...
Hi Neil. Thank you for the wonderful comment. I’ll let Fiona know about your offer in Wales. I’ll let you know if I’m coming over as well… 😂😂 I have changed to Tec Bike exhaust on my interceptor as well.
I've had an Interceptor for 9 months and about 2,400 miles. I'm still happy with it. It checks quite a few boxes for me: it looks great, sounds great, great gas mileage (about 55-60mpg) handles well, lots of aftermarket stuff. It'll cruise all day at 75mph no problem. Power and torque are plenty for most purposes. The six-speed gearbox is nice. The brakes work fine, the ergonomics are fine. It has a likeable personality. But it's not a bike I'd want to ride to Alaska on. Or probably even 200 miles. The reason being that the suspension and seat are both stiff and kind of cobby. Around town it's fine but it wouldn't be fun riding it all day long. That and the right mirror vibrates... and it's hard to impossible to read the digital gas gauge in bright sunlight. Those are my only complaints.
Hi Chris. Thank you for the comment. Yes, it’s a great bike. If you are going to Alaska I would advice you to have a look at the New Himalayan 450. Great bike. You can do it on the interceptor as well. But the bike has its own limitations and the bike was not designed to do all that. I have never taken the Interceptor off road and don’t even intend to. The interceptor is my commuter bike and do the smaller trips on it. If I want to go longer distances I have the Super Tenere 1200 which is an excellent bike.
Fiona has good taste & judgment! The bike is a great all-rounder - I got a black one too from the same place in April '19 - Chris delivered it to my door on the back of his double cab.
I too researched this bike buying it in June 2019 maybe 2 weeks after they arrived in California. 34,000 trouble free miles later im very happy with this great machine
That's great to hear from a long term owner with a few miles under their belt. Have you done any mods to the bike? Add off so what would you consider to be the priority or of the biggest benefit. Cheers.
@DirkGentley42 hi. Thank you for the lovely comment. Interceptor is a good as a standard bike.. but I would definitely get the DNA air filter and slip on exhausts installed because they transform how the bike performs. And the tyres. You will notice the difference in handling as soon as you change to either Michelins or Bridgestones.
@@rideswithrichie in 2019 they came with pirelli phantoms which handled great. I went to Michelin pilots then pirelli sport demons and really dragged a lot of metal. Last couple sets are Michelin road classics and I'm still dragging everything. The only break downs are a battery and broken speedo cable at 36k miles. The plastic cable flex over time is the problem. I spliced 2 feet of rubber cable between the ends providing more arc and flexibility. I've made no other mods. Nearly 39k miles now
@burtvhulberthyhbn7583 I never knew that hack of Speedo cable. Thanks you for mentioning the same. Touch wood I have had no issues with my bike so far. I recently had a bit wobble in the front. The rim was slightly bent due to me riding into a big pothole. That’s fixed. I have 9k on my interceptor. Love that bike.
As an Int 650 rider, I agree that it is a marvelous bike. Minor grumbles, yes. .The center stand - I admit I have not been able to use it. The peg poditions took some getting used to. ( Now not a problem). It is powerful enough, it is fast enough. Mine (Shaanti) has an endearing character not often found on most bikes. It was love at first ride.
Another great video Richie..What a lovely motorcycle..Royal Enfield are making great bikes lately, the Interceptor was on my watchlist but i went with the Street Twin in the end
While making a long term review video.. please do keep in mind to mention or to ask the owner the kilometers on the odometer.. it gives the review much more validity and can make or break the buying decision
That was a really interesting interview! I am considering the RE Interceptor 650 and have seen many other reviews, but this was a different perspective from a slightly smaller rider and it was great to see. Very interested to see that Fiona had added the heated gear without any issues. I have seen various other reports of issues with the battery on RE bikes not handling the current drain so well. This has to be the first time I have seen an owner talk about it in a positive sense. It looks like when Fiona got the lowered shocks she had to drop the fork height a little as well? Great Interview.
What a beautiful interview, and passion for your bike Fi..loved watching this and no doubt it will give viewers a great understanding of the bike itself...well done my beautiful friend👏👏😘Also well done Richie👍
Forgot to add, my W650 is an arse to put on the mainstand also , lowering bikes makes it Really-hard , you may want to consider getting the shop (or engineer etc ) to remove an-inch from the center-stand-legs , it will be a breeze then. Good luck ,Dave
I've got the RE Classic 350 and have found the same problem with the footpegs. The only bike I've had with this problem. As for the centre stand, if Fiona has lowered the suspension fitting the new shocks, she should have shortened the stand. One of the mods on my Tiger 800 when lowering the suspension.
I hope she upgrades the charging system with all those electronic additions. Might leave her broke down someday. Would hate for that to happen... Every inter 650 owner talks about those foot pegs ouch
Very interesting and informative interview. Bought one this week! Love the colour scheme on this bike. The silver wheels are the way to go but I believe you can"t get them on the new ones.(?)

"Oh she looked so sweet from her two booted feet to her fine Irish brogue; such a winsome elf I had to pinch myself to see if I was really there." If I may suggest, you might try to put the bike in balance, lower the center stand to the ground, grab a point on the frame near the center then put your entire weight on the center stand lever and pull up with your arm with all your strength. Oh, and be sure the bike is out of gear or you have the clutch pulled in. By the way, did I detect an Indian accent with a slight Irish brogue?
Thanks for your advice. This bike is particularly difficult to go on the centre stand due to the shorter shock absorbers. The dealer who sold her the bike has now offered to shorten the centre stand for Fiona.
@@rideswithrichie I should have realized that with the frame closer to the ground, the kickstand would be too tall and make it impossible for even a strong person to lift the bike up. Anyway, being a small guy myself, I don't lift it as easily as others might.
