"A Triumph Street Twin is a modern bike pretending to be a retro bike whereas the RE 650 is a retro bike that's made modern enough to meet EURO 5 specs" That's what another TH-camr (DEeMON), who had a Street Twin, said about the the RE 650 and he's right. It's a true 'military-grade' bike that gets the job done, a barebones bike with ABS. Honestly, RE hit the nail on the head with the 650 compared to the Bullets that were riddled with electrical gremlins from poor quality control once they started mass-production of those bikes several years ago. Considering that it's significantly cheaper than other similar retro bikes like the Street Twin and the W800 and that there are tons of aftermarket parts for it, it makes sense as a valid touring bike, and the fact that it's an RE bike, any good mechanic worth their salt (or a responsible rider that knows what they're doing) can fix it making it a valid commuter, too. It's no wonder that it's MCN's retro bike of the year two years running. If it were me, I'd get the bike in the Ravishing Red or the Baker Express colour way though, hehe. Great review. Pretty relaxing to watch like an NHK documentary.

great interview.. i've booked for one to be delivered early 2022. Reportedly there is a 2-1 exhaust being tested. Hoping that is an upgrade to look forward to in the upcoming models, along with the few that you have mentioned.
Excellent interaction and excellent view on Interceptor! But what I fell in love with was : you were probably riding on a Yezdi in the very very begining of the video. We had Yezdi at home when I was a child till I migrated to bigger cities for study and work (effectively, we owned the Yezdi between 1974 and 1994). I toured on it thousands of Kms when there were "roads", when there were "so called roads" or when there were no roads! Till today, there is still no other bike I could fall in love as intensively as I could, with Yezdi, though I have ridden plenty of other ones for thousands of kms! That "feel" was and still is "special". Waiting for cruiser edition of RE650, expected to be launched in 2021 (pillion at home is insisting for tugging along, otherwise, I would have been ok with Interceptor too😃). Hope, I fall in love with that one, as intensively, as I did with our Yezdi of yore!👍
Down sizing the front sprocket by one tooth, will give you much higher top end in the 6th gear, while upsizing it by one tooth will give you more torque. More torque🥺... Oh yeah, you can then upsize the tyre 😁... Goody goody gumdrops😋
very very informative discussion... I have already booked an Interceptor 650 of this same color, i am gonna have a bit of issue with the rider footpegs as i am 5'5"
Thanks Guys !.. Which fork oil in particular please? Did you expert any wobble on the front especially when you let go off your handle bars (strictly to check the stability and line!). Your views much appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏿
I've ridden mine for 13k in same 18 months. Not much by your standards, but been running it stock. The only change I'm looking forward to is a suspension upgrade.
Thanks grips, they look good. which one are these. Also, do we need so many accessory to become a rider or can I run it as stock. Personal preference I suppose.
@@bahl88 Thanks. Because, What I feel is that there is no end to this. The real fun is to just ride and feel free. Because when you ride, it is you and the machine and no one in between. Also, what headlight you would suggest for Interceptor.

Ah the bike is a Yezdi Roadking from 95 and that handlebar is something that was called a Monkey handlebar when I was in college... it was pretty much the coolest handlebar to have, when I was in college :) If you are based out of Delhi come over on saturday to Swati Jawa. I will be taking the bike there for a complete engine overhaul in their service center. We imported an expert from Bangalore who will be helping us with that.

Checking for the RE Interceptor reviews since few days...This is the only worthy one..i found. True and Experienced biker ..Sir thanks for sharing your experinces..
A little leaner yes. But the ecu will learn it. I personally don’t think a powertronic is needed. If u need more torque. Go for the minus one tooth front sprocket. U will get 5 -6 % more torque.

Hi , Am going from splendour pro to Royal Enfield, am 5.5 height, this is going to be my first royal enfeld experience, most of my ride time would be in city, I was thinking of buying either classic 350es or interceptor What would you recommend? I would take the test rides, however, please tell me one thing, which would you recommend classic or interceptor? For a first timer? Please let me know
Firstly Really nice video. Great conversation between 2 learned men. However I have question here for both of you. Last I rode a bike was in 2007 back in college and it was a 150 cc one. Now I am planning an Interceptor 650 for the old Classic look it has got. However I am not sure whether the 650 cc is something I can manage. Can you please provide your opinion on this. Is it too ambitious upgrade??
Hi thanks lot. Upgrading from a 150. You will have a lot of power under you. And weight. Suggest hire a interceptor650 for some days and see if u like the transition. It’s a phenomenal motorcycle and if you can keep your learning curve then buy it :)
it's not difficult to upgrade Sreenidhi if you are cautious and learn the idiosyncrasies of the vehicle in the first couple of weeks before attempting any new behaviour on the vehicle. I would whole heartedly recommend the RE Interceptor for any newbie
Hi Both The past weekend I did take the test ride and felt the bike was heavy and quite Powerful. However at the end of the test drive my heart felt it needed more of it. Frankly speaking its a lovely bike. To get better hang and ownership experience I have planned to rent the bike over a weekend and see how I use it and then decide to by tge bike. Because 3.30 lakhs is not small amount for ppl like us. Thank you both for sharing your thoughts and lending your advice 🙏
i love this discussion.i ride electra UCE, and hope to one day upgrade to a bigger bike and tour more. your mention of 750 kms brought back memories of my own hyderabad-mumbai one day ride on my electa. is interceptor a good daily driver, since i will use the same bike for commute and touring.
Thanks buddy. The interceptor is a great all round performer, its great for city commutes too, the low end grunt keeps you from flipping gears in traffic. The weight is well managed on this bike, you won’t feel it to be tougher to maneuver it in traffic as you are already riding a UCE Go ahead buy it and must thank RE for making such a great motorcycle.
Awesome review , Can you please let me know how's that exhaust and any negative feedback about this AEW I am planning to get only slip on for my GT and which model is this, Thank you
AEW is fabulous. It’s got crisp sound with the right amount of bass. And I run baffles so it’s not obnoxiously loud. Bike breathes better and feels great. I have heard and seen all slip on. Personal preference are the aew. This is AEW 101 mild steel.

ashish just wanted to check about outex. what happens when there is a need to replace any of the spokes or when you need to do a wheel truing. also hope there is no air leakage issues
Hi. With outex u will have to be a little careful. If u need to replace the rim the outex will be replaced. If a spoke Is changed that hole can be plugged. But needs a skilled person to do it. If done well no air leakage issues. Go for it

I used to own a Mahindra Mojo, took me 4 years to cross 20k kms, every single km was enjoyable. When my kid arrived couple of years back, stopped riding temporarilynand gave the bike to my brother. The itch to ride is still there and the ineterceptor looks to be a promising bike. May be next year ☺️ I know a guy called Sarath Shenoy, I had an opportunity to ride with him for few 100 kms, I still remember on his Mojo he crossed 1 lakh kms in less than 2 years.
We would love to review the mojo. It’s just that the mahindra guys keep saying that they will give a bike but they never do. We are happy that the mojo gave ur happinessperkm. Keep riding buddy 😊✌🏻
Hi there. This mod was done in Mar 2019. And it’s worked beautifully. Stock fork oil is 2.5 w. We used 7.5 & 10 and settled in to 7.5 w. Spacers are 2 one per fork. Unfortunately don’t have a picture. We have used liqui moly and putoline. Both work very well.

It’s an easy 🏍 to maintain. My last service cost was 3750. That includes all labour, 3 litres of engine oil, throttle body cleaning etc. Oil was 2500. For a mid sized motorcycle the service cost is not that much. Hope I answered your question and many thanks for watching
@@bahl88 Thanks for replying. 2500 for oil is pretty standard for this price range of bikes or does dual cylinder take a toll on the cost? Sir, pls let me know Interceptor BS6 correct mileage for city.. upon single user and most economy riding pace.. 2. Also let me know mileage for Himalayan in city.. suggest which one to buy
The interceptor will give you approximately 28 to 30 kmpl between city and highway. It's almost the same for the himalayan bs6. The trick to getting mileage out of both motorcycles is to maintain your RPM at a level of 3500. On the interceptor that will translate to approximately 90 kmph where as on the Himalayan it will translate to approximately 80 kmph. As to suggestion on which one to buy, it differs from person to person. I personally love the stance of the Himalayan while others love the speed of the interceptor. Both have the same legendary service skills of the Royal Enfield service centre. So thats no differentiator 😉
@@sraman31 Sir Thank You in finding time to reply. My routine commute would be at a speed of 50-60 kmph. So here i believe, i may not be able to put up at 6th gear. So will this affect mileage ? Will it give technical faults to Interceptor in long term? Still will i get a mileage above 26-27kmpl with smoothest rpm ride ??
@@sraman31 i have ridden both within 2km range.. i have booked Interceptor this month and under waiting period. But then, i was wondering if i commute at 50-60kmph, will this speed effect negatively for the massive engine of Interceptor ! If top speed is not make a break for you. We are very impressed with the Hero Xpulse. It’s mostly an off road bike but very capable on Tarmac too. Or if u want a cruiser then RE 350 stable.
Hi there. Firstly thanks for watching. Stock fork oil is 2.5 w and the front suspension is soft so I put in fork oil with a grade of 10w and used spacers. Now my front is more planted. Brand #liquimoly
They said it's connected to the engine side it's not replaced. So many have the same issue it's from the presence of improper welding...its not a matter
All we can say is that RE’s are most travelled to the most difficult of terrains like ladakh, Spiti etc. that should say something on the reliability. They are pretty reliable if you take good care of them.
Hi, could you kindly pass on this message to Ashish Bahl. Hi Ashish, this is Sunil Banerjee, your ex colleague at South African Breweries. Such a nice review and video by 2 seniors, experienced riders. Loved it. I also have a knack of putting new things on the bike to modify it in terms of looks and comfort and performance. Have just completed long rides to Goa, Hyd and Blore. Next trip is going to be Rajasthan after a month. Can u mention about the seat? Should I go for RE GT touring seat or one from Sahara Seats? Which would be more comfortable for long and continous ride of 150km at once? Thank u again.
Hey Vishal. First up lovely to hear that you ride along as well 🤝 Secondly the GT touring seat is wonderful but a bit narrow and is for about 4500 so if ur putting down that kind of money get a custom seat done to ur specs. Where are u based ?
@@bahl88 Sirji, thank u so much for ur response. I am based in Pune. Here is the seat that I am eyeing for. I will be ordering it soon: saharaseats.com/seats/interceptor-seat-new-design-09
Even i need a few more gears on my interceptor, i do tour a lot and when the speed limit is not a problem, you want more from the bike(yes the wind blast is too much to fight, but still we want more!!)
Amazing conversation that covers almost every aspect, the only thing that I found missing with all of the owners who have done minor performance change is the spark plugs, it can make a huge difference in the way the bike pulls from stand still almost everyone has skipped it, with the slip-on and stage 2 filter if you also change the spark plugs to NGK Iridium that grin that Ashish had would be even more wider and evil, if you are reading this try it......😉

Waiting for cruiser edition of RE650, expected to be launched in 2021 (pillion at home is insisting for tugging along, otherwise, I would have been ok with Interceptor too😃). Hope, I fall in love with that one, as intensively, as I did with our Yezdi of yore!👍
Thanks a lot Vilas. I too started with a Yezdi - Cl II 🤗
Right said.. Even I sometimes feel that my Interceptor 650 need 7th Gear.
Hi, change the gear box sprocket for one less tooth is what some people do .
You will get used to it. Just go easy :)
I hope this man has added an ecu tune to compliment the air intake and exhaust mod. The mixture will get lean with the air intake .
Fair point.
Take the air filter cover off and use fender washers to hold it the place. More airflow.
We need many many more of such videos!

Hi. It’s perfectly capable as stock. Except the stock headlight. That you will have to sort out for the highways.
@@bahl88 Thanks. Because, What I feel is that there is no end to this. The real fun is to just ride and feel free. Because when you ride, it is you and the machine and no one in between. Also, what headlight you would suggest for Interceptor.

Hi. I own a interceptor 650. What are your views on tube to tubeless? Does that affect the spoked rim and stability of the bike at higher speeds?
Hi Ashish has been running outex tubeless for 40 k + km. No issues.
Checking for the RE Interceptor reviews since few days...This is the only worthy one..i found. True and Experienced biker ..Sir thanks for sharing your experinces..
Hey buddy. Thanks 😊 for watching.
Would the bike run lean with the DNA air filter? do we need a fuel booster or a powertronic ecu??
A little leaner yes. But the ecu will learn it. I personally don’t think a powertronic is needed. If u need more torque. Go for the minus one tooth front sprocket. U will get 5 -6 % more torque.
Hi sir..i own an interceptor 650..i want to change its handlebar as it z very uncomfortable..i want to replace it with renthal jimmy button bend..but unable to find it..can u please help me or guide me from where i can get it..
Hi ,
Am going from splendour pro to Royal Enfield, am 5.5 height, this is going to be my first royal enfeld experience, most of my ride time would be in city, I was thinking of buying either classic 350es or interceptor
What would you recommend?
I would take the test rides, however, please tell me one thing, which would you recommend classic or interceptor? For a first timer?
Please let me know
Classic 350 for you is a good progression from Splendour
@@happinessperkm Thank you
Firstly Really nice video.

Hi Both
The past weekend I did take the test ride and felt the bike was heavy and quite Powerful.
The weight is well managed on this bike, you won’t feel it to be tougher to maneuver it in traffic as you are already riding a UCE
Go ahead buy it and must thank RE for making such a great motorcycle.
Awesome review , Can you please let me know how's that exhaust and any negative feedback about this AEW
I am planning to get only slip on for my GT and which model is this, Thank you
AEW is fabulous. It’s got crisp sound with the right amount of bass. And I run baffles so it’s not obnoxiously loud. Bike breathes better and feels great. I have heard and seen all slip on. Personal preference are the aew. This is AEW 101 mild steel.

Hi fork oil + spacers work very well. Liqui moly 10 w works well
I used to own a Mahindra Mojo, took me 4 years to cross 20k kms, every single km was enjoyable. When my kid arrived couple of years back, stopped riding temporarilynand gave the bike to my brother. The itch to ride is still there and the ineterceptor looks to be a promising bike. May be next year ☺️
I know a guy called Sarath Shenoy, I had an opportunity to ride with him for few 100 kms, I still remember on his Mojo he crossed 1 lakh kms in less than 2 years.

But hope RE is observing this video and try to make a touring bike in the same platform
Can you please detail the changes done to front suspension? What grade fork oil? what spacers and how many were used?

Take a test ride of both and see which one suits your riding style...
But then, i was wondering if i commute at 50-60kmph, will this speed effect negatively for the massive engine of Interceptor ! the Himalayan will. But at that speed on the interceptor, you will be mostly in the 4th or 5th gear and mileage will be lower
Pls suggest Best bike for touring under 1.5 lac rupees

I have always heard that REs are not reliable. Is it really the case?
All we can say is that RE’s are most travelled to the most difficult of terrains like ladakh, Spiti etc. that should say something on the reliability. They are pretty reliable if you take good care of them.
