This is my 1st watch over $100. I've bought watches for over $1000 but given them away as gifts for graduations or celebrations. My parents gave me a very nice watch when I started college & it was stolen from me. Because of that I've felt ashamed for decades & thought I don't deserve to own a nice watch. 41 years later I broke down & bought myself this Hamilton. I really like this watch. I wear it everywhere. It lays flat enough under thick winter clothing that I forget I even have it on. It's that comfortable to me. It's actually quite useful at work for timing therm usage. The next watch I give away for a gift will be the same Hamilton Khaki auto I have on.
That's a great tradition to pass on the watch you wear to someone special when they accomplish something. Also, you absolutely do deserve to own a nicer watch. As you get older and become more responsible I think it's okay to acquire a few nicer things that you enjoy and appreciate more.
Your comment really spoke to me @michael. I had my Tudor stolen, in which I have felt pain for years and have hesitated to get another watch ever again. I guess it doesn't compare to 41 years, but I know that exact feeling. I'm glad you're enjoying your Hamilton.
Absolutely great looking watches and the value is wild. I think it's just that they are owned by swatch group and have the benefit of economy of scales.
it's certainly heading there. It feels like every other day you get a video praising the khaki auto, and if you try to track it's price, it is also constantly going up.

Kakhi automatic 38 mm is good size for Asian people. Everything thing is good.but except a little heavy in everyday use. I think if it is Titanium material.It may be perfect watch.
I just re-watched this video and I have had my copy of this watch for a little over a year and a half, so I feel like I can give an intelligent response to you. Let me say off the top that your review is pretty spot on, objectively. Subjectively, we're all entitled to our own preferences of loose versus tight bracelets, drilled or undrilled lug holes, etc. For me, the band was either too loose or too tight for my personal taste, so I put a nice leather strap on it. A Hamilton strap will cost about $150, so I got a different brand. Through-drilled lug holes would be a very nice addition, but I guess Hamilton wanted this watch to be at home with a suit and tie, as well as jeans and a tee shirt. A screw down crown, or some kind of lock down would be great; you wouldn't have to keep checking to see if it was still fully seated while swimming, but I don't wear this watch while I'm in water (especially hot water), so it hasn't been an issue for me. I would love to have a Sinn 556, but they are out of my pension budget.

@@owencampbell7956 I sell it back after couple weeks mate, it's was just to long lug to lug and the sapphire glass was not good because of the reflection very bad reading😩other then that was great ⌚ on photo's and videos shining but on person nor very great because of the reflected glass

My Hamilton khaki keeps exceptionally good time. It has the same h10 movement as reviewed and manages to leave my Zenith El primero struggling to compete.
Podcastage-man does watches too? Cool! I just bought this same watch BTW. I plan to swap out the crystal for one with AR coating on the inside, and put it on a C&B nylon strap. But I bought the bracelet copy just in case as I do think it looks good on the stock bracelet.
Liked your review. Very helpful. Would have been even better if you had included the silver dial with the stainless bracelet. I have both, but can't make up my mind. Does the silver make it more dressy and the black more sporty!
I went for the 42mm case size version as found the 38 was a tad too small. Good quality, stylish watch with attractive textured black dial, 80 hrs power reserve, pretty good accuracy and robust leather brown strap. Pretty poor lume tbh, but at the price point so be it. My choice for knocking around at home, or venturing out in the countryside.
Hey man! I'm actually trying to decide between the 38mm and the 42mm. Mind if I ask how big your wrist is? Also, how do you find the 42mm to wear? Cheers!
@@teaganhudak290 1 year later, and not OP, but - my wrist size is 6.25" and I bought the 38mm which is perfect for me. I would guess that if your wrist is pushing closer to 7" you could go either way based on taste, and over 7" I'd think many people might prefer 42. But a field watch in general is "supposed" to be a relatively simple subtle thing, not a big flashy dinner plate. 38mm is more in keeping with the history of field watches IMHO.
Liked your video presentation, your sinn 556 is a good value for money. Cant say w/ that hkhaki. Seikos military, Orient defenders are other better buys, also those micro brands. My take its another over priced timepiece. Thanks for the video. Happy St. Valentine's day
The 556a is probably my most worn and favorite watch over the last year. Amazing watch for $1500. I'm getting -1 to -2 seconds a day on it, and with the antimagnetism of 1000 gauss, the 200m wr, everything about it makes it a great tool watch.
That is a con for me too, which is why I bought a replacement crystal with internal AR coating for $45. It's on its way to me right now so I can't say if the difference will be night and day, but I just want the dial to be that much clearer!
Relate 100% with you on becoming a bracelet fanatic. I just bought an omega speedmaster reduced and initially hated the bracelet, but now I can’t get enough of it. I see watches with natos and leather straps and they look dull and boring to me now. It was like something just clicked in my brain and I realized that a bracelet on a watch brings out its beauty. I also just purchased this hamilton for my every day watch and came here for validation. I feel like wearing the omega every day is overusing it and wanted to wear something less expensive day to day in case it gets damaged. Thanks for the review!
It's a real shame they didnt add the drilled lugs, screw down crown and just do a normal oyster bracelet. With those small details fixed up it really would be the perfect field watch and everyday companion
Automatic watches are considered accurate if it deviates +/- 25 seconds per day. Although the Zenith Defy Lab is the most accurate mechanical watch ever made beating at 15Hz deviates by no more than 0.3 seconds per day seems far more accurate than 6 seconds per day, Hamilton's 6 seconds deviation is still pretty damn accurate.

How often do you reset a watch that loses 6 seconds a day? Do you have a limit; when it's one minute behind the actual time? Two? I'm just wondering how analretentive I should be.
The way I do it on watches that lose time is set the watch ahead one or two minutes. And then after a month I should not be behind the actual time. Then I'll reset it forward a minute again.
@@Watchcastage Ok, that's what I do with my Seiko Baby Alpinist, which loses about 12 seconds per day (6R35). Of course, I don't wear it very much, either. I wear my Hamilton Khaki Auto everyday. It was losing about four seconds a day, when I first reached out to you a year ago, but I've found that this particular watch doesn't seem to like being "topped off", or, at least kept that way. If I just wear it and don't hand wind or shake it, it gains about a second a day. Once or twice a month, I pull out the stem to hack the movement, then push it back in when the clock on the internet catches up.

I would love to have a Sinn 556, but they are out of my pension budget.
I think the sinn is quite a bit heavier and unfortunately they don't do the tegimented treatment on the 556
This could definitely be your only watch. Leather strap to dress it up, canvas to dress it down. Perfect size, high quality, great price.

The only con for me is no AR coating, so the watch has a rather reflective crystal. Oh and yes screw down crown to get a 200m WR would also be nice.

Ok watch but it’s way too dressy thanks to the polished bezel and ridiculously reflective crystal.
Put it on a canvas strap and it'll easily work as a everyday field watch.
