It is an awesome cage. Those gerbils look extremely well cared for and in good health. If I were a gerbil would want to be in that cage rather than at Petco, unless it is Petco Park.

very nice. I've never seen a gerbil habitat so much like the natural wild places where they would live. I think people forget that they were wild first, domesticated second.

    • @violethaye6987

wasn't every single pet wild first before they were domesticated? Weren't we wild first, living out there then built tiny modern homes to live in?

HI! Fantastic expanse and young gerbils, so I'm guessing everything is new? I would love it if you showed us a current video of the habitat and the same gerbils so we can all see how they have grown and how the setup held up? Is that just he wall as the background? Everything looks new and not chewed yet. I love idea. I"m just wondering how practical it is. Thanks for sharing.

Ok, so I am watching this video and wondering to myself what is keeping them in and not climbing over the edge. I remember having gerbils as a kid and they were always getting out.......

I had two in a pretty big (self made) cage, which we built on top of a table. We had to put higher plexiglass on it and they still managed to jump about 40-50 cm. high...and then they fell probably 1-1,5 m to the floor...

  • @fladam1994
    @fladam1994 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's amazing. I need to build an enclosure like that. I also want to get another gerbil to introduce to mine. I didn't realise they were pack animals but I worry that because he's been on his own for so long he won't react well with others now. But a big enclosure like that, you could separate sections off and slowly introduce them. Presumably when cleaning time comes you'd just do it a section at a time. Like every month do a different section, or something like that.

So many cardboard tubes! My little Spitfire would love this, he may have tantrums and be partially blind but he still loves cardboard tubes more than any other gerbil! Even shy Hurricane loves them, but he tends to shy away as his brother fights him if he tries to take the tube! Definitely brothers!

Wow the slinky is genius. I've been trying to come up with simple ways to get my gerbils up to a second floor if I was to build one. But the slinky idea is perfect. It's simple easy and cheap. Plus iits metal so those destructive little teeth don't ruin their own fun. Lol

  • @joannenugent8495

Excellent cage ! I wouldn't mind living in there. I have the extra large and large Savic gerbilarium from Pets at Home that I use for my two girls.I have put the cages next to each other and they can go between both of them.I am getting another of the larger ones to give them more room.I feel that the large which is recommended for 2 is only big enough for 1 - and you wouldn't keep 1 gerbil unless 1 of them die - and the larger of the cages only big enough for 2 gerbils not 3 to 4 as they recommend. They recommend the bare minimum.

Hey there. Could you please give me some info about some stuff inside that cage?
I have a big tank for my 2 gerbils (i like giving them lots of space) and I'm really interested in these:
What kind of bedding is that one you're using? It looks diferent from most i've seen.
How did you make all the little wooden houses? I see they are all made of the same kind of wood as those little "logs" they chew on.
What did you use on the holes conecting all the diferent enviroments and the spring? It look slike clay but I'm not sure
    Thanks a lot!

Your cage is amazing, we are in the process of buying some units to make a similar cage, then we will buy some gerbils. I love the spring, though I can't find it on that website, maybe they stopped selling it now. Can I ask, what type of clay or material it is you used to cover round the holes youve drilled in the back of the cage for the gerbils to go from one unit to another.
Please post more videos, I love watching your gerbils in action.

  • @melwonnacott

This looks awesome my only concern would be Ikea furniture is typically made of particle or mush board type material and wouldn't hold up to any moisture so would be very difficult to sanitize. Other wise I think this is an awesome set-up and I am sure they are very happy with there home.

No hate whatsoever by this comment I'm genuinely just curious as I recently adopted my first gerbil! Arent they meant to have more burrowing materials so they can build tunnels etc?? Everywhere I read and watch it states you need tons of bedding for them to burrow!
