I feel like King of the hill is the best way to practice scout in my opinion. Thats how i learned how to consistently get shots on target while jumping. Or, i suggest playing maps that are open.
For those looking to improve with scout in pubs, I highly recommend going 5cp, the game mode forces dynamic play which is scout’s bread and butter. Plus sentries (which are scout’s main weakness) aren’t nearly as effective in that game mode because the area of the fight is constantly changing.
One thing, use height advantage. It’s so much easier to juke if you’re on a higher surface, for example, the box on harvest mid Just knowing the map will help you greatly with finding little spots where you get the advantage.
chair and desk height does matter a lot for coordination. you don't need a fancy chair you just need some pillows. when i figured out my desk height i got a lot better.
demoknights are such a pain in the ass cuz they will have more then 4 heads 100% of the time cuz they always kill the casual players, and it always feels good when they get into a bad pisution and play way too agressevly but die realising "oh no this player is actully good fri-"

How to get good at scout: - For aiming, grind out mge but also DM servers - play guitar hero with ur crosshair (as in strafe/jump aim to predict where they will be with ur crosshair and shoot once they move into ur crosshair) - For gamesense, just get into a HL/6's team and make sure to get a mentor too, scrim, do demo reviews and you'll start getting better understanding on how to play maps and with ur team more
I have a div2 6s scout as a mentor and he has helped me ALOT. Getting a mentor is super helpful. Also playing 6s will help alot aswell. All of the points above are really good.
I think the bat's role in the game is actually much bigger. rememeber that they have much higher crit chance, so more often than not you'd find yourself killing an enemy in 2-3 hits! also equip frying pan for 100% crit chance

not very applicable with scout scout has what is probably the best selection of secondaries in the game, melees that are pretty all round useful and exactly 3 good primaries, and all of them are pretty good in most situations, changing more your playstyle than anything else

big pro scout tip, if you can even get an inch of height advantage on the enemy, DO IT! Scouts are hunched over, fast, and thin, so hitting them is usually reliant on aiming for the center of the torso, this applies to most classes, but since scout is hunched over, if hes above you, most of his torso is hidden
Open maps with walkable roofs (harvest, sawmill, etc) with the winger feel super good and when you get a super sneaky kill on an unsuspecting player feels soooo good
Make sure to strafe-double-jump in the direction of cliffs and try to make sure that every pellet from your scattergun, not just the majority of them, misses. Also try to taunt after every kill and when you *do* miss all your shots try to get back to the resupply with the lowest amount of health you can get to.
i like to use the 1# fan set because you can flank so well with the hype and the winger's higher jump to flank the enemy in a way that no other scout could with other weapons.
I realised today while playing scout that the key for me personally is how focussed I am. With the class of spy I feel I can dominate without concentrating as hard, whereas with scout, it requires your full attention in order to climb the scoreboard.
One way I found that I improve at movement is playing against people who really test your ability to move good. I was just going around on 2fort killing people as usual and this absolutely cracked hybrid knight started targeting me. Every interaction would be a trial by fire to see if I was good enough to dodge him and/or his pills while still being able to aim at him. Previously I would be unable to deal with demoknights on 2fort cause of the tight corridors but now I can deal with them semi consistently
One tip I have is to get as close as you can without them noticing you and aim for the midsection. If you're using Soda Popper or Force of Nature, you can completely decimate them before they can react.
Oh and another thing get the "feel" of your scattergun. it may sound odd but its just so satisfying to land 2 hit meatshots all the while double jumping all over the place and strafing

Also want to add that I will never be good at scout because, a. I always forget to reload my scattergun (I do this with every weapon that doesn’t realize automatically like the snipe riffle) and b. I always get into fights that I shouldn’t get into and always end up dying and c. I always forget that double jumping is a thing with scout and d. I can’t aim and end wasting all my shots and then rush at them with my mele weapon and then they can aim and kill me :(

Dont approach people who are looking at you unless you're confident, if you are fighting someone then you should be jumping around a lot especially on random objects, having the high ground makes it very hard for soldiers and demos to kill you. C. Remember to double jump. Its scouts second best move and will make it a lot harder for someone to kill you D. Aim harder. if you are having trouble you that then I suggest just moving left and right and when the other guy gets in your crosshair, shoot, no need to move the mouse.

tr_walkway is very useful for this. I used to not be able to hit a single cleaver as scout but after some practice I developed a system to automatically kill all light classes which involves a shot at close range followed up by a cleaver. Pretty effective too.
When I see scouts not using double jump I sometimes feel like they will die and 80% of the time they do. So here is why double jump should be used. First: Soldiers splash damage is denied since you are like a flying target and when you get more air time you can strafe more meaning the soldier will be confused and you get a kill. 2 pyros can't reach you and you can take high ground and avoid demos pipes and stickys.
I dont use straifing method becouse i use force a nature and when i shoot i shoot 2 bullets at a time and i manage to get kills like that, and i dont waste extra ammo

The main thing is you want to try to mirror his movement while juking shots in the same time. -if youre facing a soldier, fight him at medium range and jump away from his rockets. If gets too close, try to jump over his head. The main trick here is to jump but also shoot in the same time. It may throw you off but it will make you a good scout -for the demo, same thing as soldier, really. One cool thing you can do is destroy his stickies with your gun. General scout tip: if your playing casual, jump and do parkour around the map in every situation. Every pro scout knows it is important to jump on the props or to take cover just to throw people off. To make your movement better simply join an. Empty map and try to do cool jumps on certain props high ledges and try to track items. I hope this helps you, because you see, it took a lot to write. :)
Depends on the situation; if you can surf the rocket or know that taking the splash will leave you at a respectable enough of a health pool to secure the kill then yeah. If you’re pretty low (80 hp or lower), I’d say try to avoid rockets as much as possible, and only take splash if absolutely necessary or you can’t avoid it
