You have to learn the distance at which stickies become armed *just* as they reach the target. They're more viable the longer range your targets are and are perfect for killing sentry nests.

But at moderate levels of practice people do way better with other tf2 weapons like say the rocket launchers. Its only at very high skill levels that it truely shines. Some of the best demos in the world use the damn thing as their primary- it's straight up better than the pipe launcher for area denial and straight up damage
I think it was tokfty as well who researched this, they use the sticky louche primarily but defiantly is not like they "don't put down their sticky louncher" they use the sticky 60% of the time and the pipe 40% (not counting meele of cource). I every good player uses their pipes a lot, maybe not as much as stickys but they still use it a lot and more then they ever will use the secondary of any another class. I am actually a pipe main, I usually play very aggressive so it is no suprise that I use the sticky jumper, shields and quicky louncher as my secondary. But I use the iron bomber about 60 to 80% of the time depending on how the game is going. The iron bomber still has the option of using its explosion as a good way to jump up stuff and because of the 20% less detonation time they are better for close combat. And because they roll in a straight line and can't get akr blasted they are very useful to keep pyros at distence, that is something no sticky can do.
It’s strange, I find a lot of people saying they started with sticky spamming and only retreating to grenades when they run out. But when I began maining demo I couldn’t stand stickys, I was always using grenades only using stickys for traps or self defence if i ran out of grenades. Toofty, your impersonation of the class roles is great. "Okay, so I've got a trap there, I've got a trap over there as well, remember this: lay another one, detonate this one real quick, okay, cool, gonna refill that trap over, there, it's going to be fine"
everybody saying that demoman is only for chads because they play him: haha demoman gaming (okay, so that you wouldnt have a stroke, I mean that demo man players think they are chads and just love themselves)

I never considered the whole sticky spam thing being a part of the demo journey every player goes through. Thought those were just relatively experienced players who know what works. Since the meet the demo video shows him using it exclusively for traps, and since that seems to be the intended use of the weapon (you can lay several up to a certain amount, they've got an arming time, they all detonate at once from any range, etc), _and_ that many weapon tips seem to treat it as a weapon meant for laying traps, I always just thought everyone used it as a trapping tool at first.
I prefer Hybrid-knighting to using the Sticky Jumper when I want to play pipe-only Demoman because with the shield I can at least escape (sometimes) from the dire situations I get myself in.
can you make an 'all-class' type of main let me explain: i dont main. i usually play something that fits the map. if needed, i play something that is missing, eg, engi, medic, spy, etc these people most likely have watched tons of tf2 videos, and have became familiar with most of the maps and games without playing much. or thats just me. edit: so yeah i main now (sort of) its trolldier or demoknight (with tide turner) movement is my second favourite thing about tf2
@@lidzk this implies that drinking like demo is even possible in the first place. Lets not forget that demo is able to stay perpetually drunk because he convinced his organs and bones to ferment alcohol in the comics
I found myself following a surprisingly different path than the one described. Makes me wonder about documenting it with something like TH-cam, to kind of understand what happened and what others can learn. All just random ideas, though. Keep up the good work.
I have roughly 8 hours and I play with my friend who mains medic, Ubers are so satisfying and I strongly recommend turning on hit sounds to hear the stacking audio when you destroy a group of engineers with their sentries. It’s music to my ears
I actualy skipped stage 2 since i never understood sticky spamming This maybe was because i stayed with the scotish resistance (one of my first unlockable weapon) and i grew attached to the fast firing speed and the importance of laying trap instead of spamming when i got my sheild and the claidheam mor (don't know if spelled right) i basicly learned the most of demoman trough hybrid-knight until i heard my scotish resistance complaining and saying it misses the old days So i made a totaly logical choice : making and changing loadouts (impressive i know)
i love how this describes demos as only trying new weapons 100 hours into only playing demoman that's insane, you do realize that right? people experiment like 2 hours into a class as soon as they get a new drop
the drop rate is lower than you might realize. Especially if you are playing pure demo and not other things to pad time. But the bigger factor is although newer players tend to try new weapons right away they never really start practicing with them until later unless they are low skill floor weapons. And although the skill ceiling of the sticking and grenade launchers are insane they also have farily low floors. Most of the non demo night alternatives also have relatively high skill floors. This means new players stick with them longer. This is very unlike classes like say pyro where low skill floor weapons like the scortch shot/back burner are everywhere because they actually make life easier for new players. Or classes like heavy and sniper where there is just very little real weapon variety.
As someone with more than 100 hours on Demoman (who is currently my main), I should probably mention that I did not start the game as Demoman. I had to ease myself into the class and it just clicked after a while.
I found out how to charge stickes when I first pull out the weapon and tried to shoot it lol. Also the very first pipe I hit was against a scout some how.

Toofty, your impersonation of the class roles is great.
"Okay, so I've got a trap there, I've got a trap over there as well, remember this: lay another one, detonate this one real quick, okay, cool, gonna refill that trap over, there, it's going to be fine"
everybody saying that demoman is only for chads because they play him: haha demoman gaming (okay, so that you wouldnt have a stroke, I mean that demo man players think they are chads and just love themselves)

people dont play the tutorial?
Me too
I played the tutorial
I double clicked when it said that tho
i did tutorial lmao
I play the tutorials when I’m bored
I felt that when you said “embarrassed that he didn’t know it for that long” because i watched one of your videos and you said “hold down left click” because i was like “you can do that????”
hey toofty thank u 4 producing high quality videos at a frequent rate, even with quitting youtube full time. we appreciate everything you do!!
I used the tide turned more than the sticky because the ability to retreat faster than a scout is really helpful
If you're gonna make 10 steps of a pyro main, remember that pyro had 2 steps, discovery and wacky/cursed cosmetics.

Maybe five stages
I never considered the whole sticky spam thing being a part of the demo journey every player goes through. Thought those were just relatively experienced players who know what works.
Since the meet the demo video shows him using it exclusively for traps, and since that seems to be the intended use of the weapon (you can lay several up to a certain amount, they've got an arming time, they all detonate at once from any range, etc), _and_ that many weapon tips seem to treat it as a weapon meant for laying traps, I always just thought everyone used it as a trapping tool at first.

The Midlife Crisis ~200h
When people say “What makes me a good Demoman?” it’s actually an existential crisis question.

Demoman was one of the first characters to use the Drunken Fist.

I dont even play tf2 but have read the comics and watched the official sfm vids.....yet I still appreciate a great video when I see one of Demoman!
Unpupolar opinion:
Playing hybrid knight actually helps with your pipe aim...
I prefer Hybrid-knighting to using the Sticky Jumper when I want to play pipe-only Demoman because with the shield I can at least escape (sometimes) from the dire situations I get myself in.
Also, melee kills after charging are the cherry on top of it.

can you make an 'all-class' type of main
let me explain:
i dont main.
i usually play something that fits the map.
if needed, i play something that is missing, eg, engi, medic, spy, etc
these people most likely have watched tons of tf2 videos, and have became familiar with most of the maps and games without playing much.
or thats just me.
edit: so yeah i main now (sort of)
its trolldier or demoknight (with tide turner)
movement is my second favourite thing about tf2
Sort of the same boat for me. I have preferences and i mainly play pyro, but ill play whatever class is needed with varying degrees of success
lost in the the wind main
What about the ten stages of every god y’know someone who has gone through the stages on every class
1:45 the death of the demoman is the right timing when my bro gets a revenge lmao
As a demo main, I can say that this is pretty accurate.
I used to a have a friend that was an ascended Demo-main. I miss him a lot and this reminded me of him.
After infinity years in sfm, we hope it is worth the wait.
13:14 "some may even start to take on the personality of the demoman himself." So, Drunk?
*Perhaps*
nah,if they start drinking like demo they will die in a week or two
@@lidzk this implies that drinking like demo is even possible in the first place. Lets not forget that demo is able to stay perpetually drunk because he convinced his organs and bones to ferment alcohol in the comics
I’ve been playing for 2 years, and this is the first time I’ve heard about charging the stickys
Lmao
Stage 12: has memorized the entirety of "meet the demoman" in both english and scottish and can recite it while drunk

yay! i learned something!
Wooo finally the masterpiece we were all waiting for!
Seriously tho lmao
Me: *hears abt area control as a early engie-main*
Also Me: "Area control MMMM"
I found myself following a surprisingly different path than the one described. Makes me wonder about documenting it with something like TH-cam, to kind of understand what happened and what others can learn. All just random ideas, though. Keep up the good work.
I have roughly 8 hours and I play with my friend who mains medic, Ubers are so satisfying and I strongly recommend turning on hit sounds to hear the stacking audio when you destroy a group of engineers with their sentries. It’s music to my ears
3:32 Footage of me after 45 hours of demoman
Ngl this is actually happening to me, im already flicking the pipe launcher
This seems like the most chill of all the classes (looking at YOU scout mains)
The sticky hopping confused me for a second, I thought I was watching Titanfall
I actualy skipped stage 2 since i never understood sticky spamming
This maybe was because i stayed with the scotish resistance (one of my first unlockable weapon) and i grew attached to the fast firing speed and the importance of laying trap instead of spamming
when i got my sheild and the claidheam mor (don't know if spelled right) i basicly learned the most of demoman trough hybrid-knight until i heard my scotish resistance complaining and saying it misses the old days
So i made a totaly logical choice : making and changing loadouts (impressive i know)
i love how this describes demos as only trying new weapons 100 hours into only playing demoman
that's insane, you do realize that right? people experiment like 2 hours into a class as soon as they get a new drop
If they get new drops for their primary.
74 hours in, not a single demo primary weapon drop.
the drop rate is lower than you might realize.
We all fear the day we meet the man who is stage 10 on all the classes.
Lazypurple
@@alfalldoot6715ehh not really. he can play all classes effectively but no he isn't the best at all of them
As someone with more than 100 hours on Demoman (who is currently my main), I should probably mention that I did not start the game as Demoman. I had to ease myself into the class and it just clicked after a while.
I like that he didn't learn how to charge a sticky till stage 3 even though that feature is litterly in the tutorial for demo.
I found out how to charge stickes when I first pull out the weapon and tried to shoot it lol. Also the very first pipe I hit was against a scout some how.
*Clears throat.*
I did not go through stage two, as I forced myself to use the sticky jumper from the start and actually doesn't like stickies since I can't fly around as much.
