Middle school was the only time in my life I was ever inclined to pick on someone, and it was because I wanted to fit in with my “friends.” Such a brutal period of development. Preteens are sociopathic.
It's really why it's worrying that kids around this age are getting less legal punishment, instead people rely on parents to punish them which you simply can't do for people who have as much damage potential as they do. So instead of treating punching and kicking as "bullying" you treat it as assault, because it's a crime.
@@FartsTasteDelicious many teenagers in that very rapid development phase may experince negative things that locks them into that mental stage for life. happend to me but with a 2gram dose of psilocybin mushrooms it unlocked me and i became an adult mentally. i was a teenager until i was 39. the brain is just a biological computer and it is very vulnarble in its growing phase ..
My eyebrows went up most at the part towards the end when she said she'd probably have an eating disorder anyway because her mother led by example of how to do it.
I’m not a celebrity but I did grow up in the hood and I made it out...became a doctor...and have a good life. When I first got the degree and would go back home, dudes from high school that couldn’t stand me (it was mutual) would try to talk to me like we were best friends. Like 🤨 bruh, I low key hated you. But now that my life is good I’m not supposed to remember the animosity that was between us?
Now this should be a talked about phenomenon, same thing happened/happens to me and I'm about to graduate college. I legit can't stand that and I refuse to change my feelings about them. It's so infuriating to me.
Same happened to me. I grinned back, slid my hand into my pocket to get my knucks on, reached back out and slammed the guy's face and temple about a dozen times. Dude was out cold. "Yeah man, great seeing you. 😀 let's chill sometime" I said. No response. So I walked off.
My mother’s advice to me might help someone else: “You cannot give people THAT level of power over your life.” It’s easier said than done, but you have to let what your bullies say to you roll off your back.
@Aleks Monza Yeah u just go ahead and think I t was for no reason... Anyway... kids will b kids...sounds to me a parent not teaching there kid to b strong or watching the child in general to c what they r watching..that’s the problem... and my kid won’t b watching joe because he’s like... sure gimme that money ...I’ll take down whatever u want
I was constantly and mercilessly bullied for my sexuality and weight throughout middle school and high school. It was horrible and I’ll never forget it! Bullying scars you for life!
The school system definitely needs a better anti-bullying program. Yes kids are just kids they don't know better, but the bullied carries that with them for the rest of their life.
No we need people to start raising their kids. And when I say raising, that doesn't mean feeding them and providing room and board. It means preparing them and molding them to be productive members of future society. Adversity is to make you stronger not weaker. If middle school breaks you, how will you handle the real world? Like Demi Lovato maybe?
Yeah uhhh, what? I was bullied a ton in school and I don't carry that with me at all. I'm glad I was bullied it definitely prepared me for the real world and now this kind of thing definitely doesn't phase me at all.
I just wonder if bullying/hazing is stopped in schools then where would they outlet the negative energy....or creative energy for some. How do you stop it? It's the same at Harvard as after high school classes to make up scores. Humans bro
@@steviefresh88 Its easier said than done LMAO, at that point in someones life, they're literally still children, they dont exactly understand what youre saying right now, at least not in the way you think they do. Until people's brains fully develop, they're susceptible more to emotion than logic. We should be smarter, more caring, and communicative with children as they grow up rather than just "tough it out and if you can't then you might be a failure for life" lol

Give me a break. That girl was only 12 years old too, nobody at that age is matured enough to understand the weight of their actions. The notion that this girl should be blamed & feel guilt over Demi’s hardships in her adult life is absolutely ridiculous.
@Hun Bun The projection is strong with this one. What kind of mental gymnastics is it to say that saying someone is an annoying b*tch behind their back isn't the say as calling them anything else? 🤡
literally 50% of teenagers get bullied at some point. I got bullied too. I don't run around telling people that, in order for them to feel sorry for me. this is so cringe
What a contrast of guest the last 2 shows. Marcus Lutrell: I was paralyzed, shot 11 times, my brothers were dead, I couldn’t use my legs so I crawled 7 miles down a mountain, and I was buried in a hole while the Taliban were hunting me for another week till I was rescued, after I healed I went back to fight in Iraq until I got injured in another explosion and the Navy forced me to retire. Demi: I was picked on in high school and I let it ruin my life. I think Demi needs to hangout with Marcus for a day!!!!!
Hate to break it to you all, but Joe literally has the biggest podcast on the internet. Joe has had hundreds of celebrities such as Kevin Hart and Robert Downey Jr. on the podcast discussing their issues from the past. This is nothing new. You guys really just saw Demi Lovato in the thumbnail and made a quick judgement before you even watched the whole podcast.
After that Fro-Yo affair, I have lost all respect for her. She did something stupid by attacking that little business and didn't even give out a genuine apology afterwards. Before you complain about getting bullied, you should stop bullying others.
Why is she playing victim this whole podcast?? It’s all about her depression, sad life, and drug addiction. Geez! Maybe she should find a church or at least get out of this business. It’s obviously not making her happy.
I cannot take the sentence "after that fryo affair I lost all respect for her" seriously lmmfao. It just sounds hilarious. I know I know it was a huge deal and I feel awful for that business she was wrong the sentence is still funny out of context
I feel like most people at some point in life get bullied. It’s very hard to get though that and you also feel alienated but you can’t let that control your life, you have to build confidence and be resilient.
How often do we have to hear about some rich and famous female playing the victim card in this white heteronormative patriarchy, only to find out nearly all the bullying comes from other chicks (pretty sure the only dudes calling her fat and ugly were gay).
Joe, for real: don't bring the "only the neckbeards downvoted that video" after this; the vast majority of the followers of your work got here because of the Graham Hancocks, the Elon Musks, the doctors, scientists, the fighters with a good lesson to share, the uncle Joeys with GREAT lessons to share, NOT THIS SHIT. DON'T BETRAY US, AND DON'T BETRAY YOUR WORK.
It’s literally a circle of bullying in school. I got bullied and I did some bullying back. I didn’t know what to do, no one taught me how to react. I didn’t bully someone else in return, I waited and after high school going out to the bars I saw my bully(ie’s)and guess what? 4 years of lifting weights daily and puberty turned me into the bully to them. Do I regret it? HELL NO! That was some of the best times in my life! They got me first but patience and dedication gave me a feeling I could never get from anything else. Was I as cruel to them? Nah, cuz all it took was them running into me a few times and them acting like we were actually good friends back in junior high. Once they acted like little kiss asses around me I never felt like a victim again. The big fish of the pond pulled me in with no question. They didn’t have the time to focus on me back then. They just saw how everyone else treated me and figured I was an equal. Gotta say it was a horrible time for a few years but then it was the best time of my life. The only thing that was different between the old me and the new me minus a large amount of size was confidence. I never looked at people the same. If getting bullied by a few guys in school taught me this lesson then thank god I did something about it and got to be embarrassed back then. People will treat you how you let them treat you. The body only let me fake it til I saw the lesson. I hope to pass this on to my son because no one showed me. Life was insanely awesome once high school ended and I learned that lesson. If you don’t treat yourself like the top dog no one else will. On the plus side I never really had to show that new side. People recognized it and it made life incredible. Respect yourself unlike no one else, eventually you’ll see how easy it really is. Hope my experience helps someone. Wish someone taught me back then.
Idk how I feel about this… I understand that Demi was super young and traumatized by this bullying experience. But with that being said, the girl who did it was only like 11/12 years old too & wasn’t nearly mature enough to understand the weight of her actions. I know Demi keeps saying she doesn’t blame this girl for her eating disorder and hardships, but the bitterness in her tone about the whole phone call is telling me otherwise. I’ve been bullied too growing up & I understand the long lasting effects of it, but I don’t have any hatred towards the kids who did it because we were all different people back then. It seems bizarre to me that Demi is still so angry at this girl over a decade later & is basically implying that this one little girl “ruined her life”…
I think you could have a bit more empathy for the emotional scars that bullying leaves on people. Demi was 11/12 years old herself. You don't just get over a bunch of people signing a petition for you to kill yourself, especially at a time when you are already vulnerable and your brain is still forming.. She already said she doesn't blame the girl for her eating disorder. But she is allowed to have her feelings about it. I think saying this event ruined her life is valid.
Bro wtf with all these assholes 😂 sorry that people have nothing better to do on a Saturday of all days than to fuck with you for not liking something. When I said you’ll be missed I was being serious, I think every member of a community such as this where discussion is pertinent and the point is valuable. God she is full of negative energy dear Demi if you have this much of negative energy just leave social media and all of this entertainment BS go in calm place with your family and live a normal life like 98% of the population.
Just a reminder that even if you are a bully, it still hurts to be bullied. When you’re 12 you are basically not a real person and you don’t understand that until you’re older. Demi isn’t acting like she’s innocent in this she literally said the opposite. Doesn’t change that the bullying affects her, too. It’s less about the bullies and more about the bullying if that makes any sense.
I stopped bullying as a teenager but I didn't do it school just a little pushing on a friend (who still is) and two relatives but I was bullied waaaaay more and way worst even as an adult and robbed twice! Middle school and highschool are such a brutal times. I truly saw colors of humanity I didn't know existed till then, cause I was home schooled from moving around a lot throughout my childhood. I STILL at 27 now remember the girls and boys who bullied, and took advantage of me almost everyday. Which escalated to bullying and threatening my friends. Vandalizing my home, breaking in, cops getting involved, house arrest, etc. It got bad. I still remember that sh*t. It still makes me angry that I tried to take the high road so many times when I should have just thrown down with them and got it over with. But in the end, their personal choices resulted in most of my major bullies being dead now from accidents regarding partying too hard and making pretty poor choices. Never saw the need to point out other people’s struggles growing up, I’ve seen my share of bullies and adults who say they care but don’t, kids can be incredibly mean for no reason at all
I honestly don't think it's "ordinary" people thinking celebrities don't have feelings or emotions. We have to remember that school bullies are also kids, and kids often don't understand the consenquences that their acts can have on others. A kid calling another one fat isn't thinking that it may change his or her entire life. So the girl in Demi Lovato's story may have just forgotten because it wasn't significant to her, not because she doesn't "care". As harsh as it may sound, sometimes you just have to find a way to move on. And if you absolutely want to talk to your childhood bullies, try to explain your feelings instead of expecting them to remember what they did and apologize right away. They probably forgot all that happened the following 2 or 3 years.
It's very sad if her bullies took it that far but she did start the bullying herself according to her own account. Furthermore, she called her after becoming famous and successful to rub it in not "make amends", and then she's offended that this girl didn't even remember the bullying. Now she's on Joe Rogan's podcast with a huge audience still bullying this girl by calling her out and talking smack by implying that she was a horrible person who should be thinking about the things she did still. She's truly being unfair to people who were bullied as children and didn't have the ability to stand up to their bullies let alone pick the fight in the first place and keep it going into their 30's.
I understand what she meant when the weight wasn’t “lifted off her shoulders” it sucks but that’s what bullying can cause, sometimes there’s sourness towards others
That girl was just surprised that her throw away and very common insult changed your whole life. I would also be shocked if I had called Joe Rogan fat and he called me about it a decade later.
"But did the taliban bully him before killing all his teammates?" is the important question. Seriously how can joe go from a hero like marcus on to basically a villain from "mean girls" in the same week? And also says " I was a c*nt as a teenager" she bullied a girl, got it right back at her and used it to score victim points and explain away poor choices and bad behavior. In recovery one of the first things people learn is to take responsibility for their actions. It doesn't seem like she's interested in doing that.

The fact that she admitted to writing the note leads one to infer that it was probably more damaging than she let's on. But who knows, just my 2 cents.
Okay, the bullying was awful and uncalled for but I don't like/agree with how she blamed (yea, she said she doesn't but honestly saying this seemed just out of courtesy, to me it seems that she really does blame her) her eating disorder on these girls from mid school and say they ruined her life. They sure weren't helping but a person telling you you're fat isn't gonna create the eating disorder itself, it's deeper than that, thought she'd understand by now and not blame everyone else (the yoghurt shops, mid-schoolers and whatnot).

She kinda hold on to stuff. People in middle school are the worst kids. Nobody is the same person they were then.
Middle school was the only time in my life I was ever inclined to pick on someone, and it was because I wanted to fit in with my “friends.” Such a brutal period of development. Preteens are sociopathic.
Teenagers are literally antisocial (basically sociopathic). That why you can’t diagnose someone as such until they’re an adult.
It's really why it's worrying that kids around this age are getting less legal punishment, instead people rely on parents to punish them which you simply can't do for people who have as much damage potential as they do. So instead of treating punching and kicking as "bullying" you treat it as assault, because it's a crime.
Their parents need to take the blame. I was a bit of a bully at school too but I realised that’s because my father bullied me 😂
@@FartsTasteDelicious many teenagers in that very rapid development phase may experince negative things that locks them into that mental stage for life. happend to me but with a 2gram dose of psilocybin mushrooms it unlocked me and i became an adult mentally. i was a teenager until i was 39. the brain is just a biological computer and it is very vulnarble in its growing phase ..

I went to school with Demi. I always saw her as the bully. She was my bully. Different perspectives. Weird how life works out.
🧢
How did she bully u?

It seems bizarre to me that Demi is still so angry at this girl over a decade later & is basically implying that this one little girl “ruined her life”…
Exactly
I think you could have a bit more empathy for the emotional scars that bullying leaves on people. Demi was 11/12 years old herself. You don't just get over a bunch of people signing a petition for you to kill yourself, especially at a time when you are already vulnerable and your brain is still forming.. She already said she doesn't blame the girl for her eating disorder. But she is allowed to have her feelings about it. I think saying this event ruined her life is valid.

So I don't think anything I would or could have done back then would have changed them. But I still have to learn to live with the crap they did to me and my friends.

Solid take, IMO
