i was there. i remember everything.
man this game and anime was/is such a huge part of my life
I wish the game was still the same I'd get back into it
4:15 in the 1st ed kaiba starter deck lord of d. says that all dragons are unaffected, not only untargetable, the errata came with the unlimited reprints. If you can pull off the flute activation requirements and summon 2 dragons you can dark hole an entire board and only your opponent's monsters and lord of d would die
I don't think "target" was a standard phrase back then. We were all so confused how to deal with these scenarios
Man I remember buying starter deck Yugi when the anime came out, good times
dont stop making these vids bro. best yugioh series on yt
I've been watching as many early year retrospectives as I can find. This one is the most thorough. If anyone know one better, let me know!
swagkages recap
Just want to say that part of Magic the Gathering's power 9 includes a card that draws 3 cards for 1 mana so MtG players are pretty familiar with how good more cards are for no/little resource
The difference imo is just how ridiculously fast a Draw 2 card snowballs your gameplan in Ygo as opposed to Magic
There is a card that banishes (i.e. exiles) the top 10 cards on your deck to draw two, and that card is limited to one right now
It is THAT good
@@1Pidds PoG would be insta-banned in MTG as well tho, same for pot of desires ( i think thats the one that banishes the top 10? ). Drawing 2 for 0 ressource is just broken in any card game
Drawing is good in literally every card game
It is not the same at all
Pot of Greed is Draw 2 for 0. There’s a big difference between that and Draw 3 for 1 (blue I might add).
Thats one of the best yugioh video ever! It is exactly what i need right now. Thanks for explaining everything so detailed.😅
Man, these old cards are so nostalgic. I never played Yugioh past the first few sets, and I'm so thankful for that, considering how horrible it has become, but I will never forget those early days of broken crazyness.
It was also horrible at first. It probably had only a couple of good formats around the edison/goat format and that's it, the game fundamentals are wrong to begin with
@@pascalsimioli6777 I want to say that. The game has gotten better after the link format. We have tons of Legacy support
I installed master duel, looked nice.first move opponent summons 5 monsters..i just surr and delete the game.🧐😔
Ehh imo it didn’t get truly terrible as far as being way too busted and power crept until the late 2010s. Before then, it was still very fun.
13:52 I'm getting back into yugioh. It looks like for the catapult turtle OTK the original card didn't have the once per turn restriction. But is that still the ruling for GOAT format? Because the 25th anniversary reprinting of the card has once per turn listed.
Old formats use old errata. So yes, Turtle wouldn't be OPT even if you have to use a modern, post-errata copy.
It puts a little price bump on pre errata text cards.
I wish they wouldn't errata the old game at all. Clearly modern yugioh isn't even the same game anymore.
I love this series, very informative!
I like listening to these, it makes me feel really happy when I saw the same cards that used to be meta and go "ay this effect is pretty good, I'm going to put this in my deck (using 4 star instant summons because yeah, it was easier just to put them out on the field and smack the opponent instead of trying to setup a summon)" in a YGO game called Stardust Accelerator haha, deck building when not knowing cards and reading their effects when I got them and deciding if they worked with my deck or not was the best part of the game, haha.
I remember playing in middle and high school and the forbidden lost making not invested anymore because why Ban the chaos monsters??
Beautiful times 💜
I still have some unopened packs from Blue eyes and a yugi and kaiba starter deck. I just found them when I was cleaning. They're unopened but the box has seen better days. There's some freying on the corners and I had to blow the dust off them.
Are they worth any money?
They sure are!
I don't know how much box condition matters on the sealed starter deck yugi and kaiba, but go look up what sealed starter deck kaiba and starter deck yugi sell for.
I looked it up a couple of years ago, and at that point unlimited edition sealed starter deck yugi was sold over 700 bucks. I think I remember kaiba being even more than that.
I doubt there is much difference from then to now.
so much nostalgia. I guess this is when i played, cuz all these cards are super familiar
Yata lock.
I still have my tournament deck from when i was a kid.
Oh dear God Jinzo 😓 you either loved it with all your heart or went oh motherfucker here we go
I enter during the release of Labyrinth of Nightmare :)
Ahhh cyber morphing jar giving me PTSD 😓 some users on Stairway to Destined duel used it absurdly too much istg
I'm pretty exodia was on limited list was because of OCG reasons not the anime because it became tier 0 ftk in OCG.
It was limited at first for that reason but soon just became for anime Resons and still persists to this day
@@ravinercf anime reasons makes no sense tho, as they went out of their way to show that exodia and its limbs were actually played in multiple copies in the anime.
@@codyhanson1344 Aren't those specifically pointed out as counterfeit cards?
Pls make following parts. Love it
P.A.C.M.A.N. is such a sauced name.
First! Seriously though excited to watch this. Love these kinds of history videos about Yugiohs formats, especially since I don't know much about these things. Keep up the great work!
I miss old school yugioh.
I cut it off at 2005.
I hate modern yugioh, its so soulless now.
I hate how often they attempt to desecrate the old game with errata text and "retrain" cards.
They could just print old sets with pre errata texts and it would sell but they only did it for some sets and with errata text.
LOB, MRD, SRL (should be MRL), PSV, and only in some limited capacity LON, DCR, and a bit more widely available IOC.
They completely skipped LOD and PGD and also MFC... Which are very important old school sets.
Anyway, the old game is still alive and infinite times better than the modern crap.
Actually waboku was worse than it is right now, it originally only worked for baffle
What does this even mean.
Great
Walls are great but every fucking time I put up a Jirai Gumo and im like 'Great this will buy me a turn or two' they sacrifice the card I wasn't able to immediately kill for some OP shit that attacks me like a summoned skull 🤣🤣🤣
#PartOfThe20%
oh lol, it's a compilation video 😬
the most 'fun' era.
Man, I thought the series would finally continue... Not just a re-hash of old videos...
lol lmao even
we’ll get gx and onwards soon
@@hannahtcg1080 are you sure?
Finally continue? My brother in christ the last part releasef was last week
quit whining
Sinister serfant
I am a bit nostalgic at the time Konami try really hard to ballance powerful cards with cost and do good banlists...
Now you have an unfair tier 0 who mill haft your deck T0 without his others handtraps, wander and mystic mine who is an one card win at 3 with no activation or maintenance cost who let a player stall to death by playing no monsters or with just slow burn... Great
