My take..The Kraut gun emplacement fire gravely hit/damaged his ethelyne glycol cooling system badly. As he's exhausting his glycol, big ol' Merlin is heating up by the seconds. No glycol, engine heats up to point of seizure. No 'fan' up front, no thrust..These fighters glide like rocks!!.. Glad to have a happy ending here, making it to the runway, albeit left main gear shot out!! A lot of other pilots weren't so lucky! Good video, as stated earlier..

Wouldn’t the other pilots have told him about the plane burning glycol And to head for home ? Were they strafing to cover him as he made his runs ?

Love unique stories of ground fire vs aircraft, and this was superb, many thanks!! Would love a book of stories, but, based on the ground weapon details, as in depth as the airplanes they shot down, as well as how attack aircraft destroyed them.

Yes, good one..but as said, for authenticity, needs to correct upper wing roundels on that Mk Vlll Spitfire. Great vid..!
Spitfires never used A/G rockets, to my knowledge. Mustang yes - Typhoon yes - Hurricane yes.

How did they know those TRUCKS were there?
Upper wing roundels are incorrect on these later Mk Spitfires...RAF upper wing roundels were red circle superposed within a larger blue circle. These are what wouldve been viewed fr. below. Good video, though..Excellent..Quite realistic..War is Hell!
