every time anyone says "[homestuck character] is [something from the epilogues]" I die a little more. no they're not... the epilogues basically destroy each character and rebuild them from spare parts, all stitched together to resemble fanon. and not even the fanon that people liked.
what reeeeeeeeeeeeally sucks is that, if you stop reading at the end of homestuck and go no further, anything that anyone could ever mention about the epilogues seems totally alien, like, downright unrecognizable. but so many people are so entrenched in all the additional content that they're just like "no, but dirk is like this" or "that's a decision that rose made" or "jade acts like this" as though they always have acted this way, or as if any of it makes sense. at the very least it can be assumed that, in a lot of people's minds, whatever the characters used to be is well and truly scrapped. press f to pay respects cuz they're gone apparently. now the hip new thing is everybody hates themselves, each other, or their lives... possibly all of those things at once!
like, sorry, I'm in a bit of a mood here, but tbh this is exactly why I hated the epilogues from moment one. I _knew_ that eventually whatever development was the most recently revealed, would start to eclipse everything else. now it feels like you can't get away with enjoying a character without someone popping in and being like "but in the epilogues they [out-of-character detail that I hate]" as if I'm wrong. now if I imagine any of these characters or their lives in a way that is any more charitable than what the epilogues did to them, my perception is apparently less legitimate because I don't have """canon""" validation. homestuck should've just ended.
