When watching the video I legit thought "Holy shit, this looks like the sort of thing Seth would review and enjoy. Wonder if he'll do a video on it..." and then he just popped up.
to me it always looked like a cheap and very short game you would see on a flash game website. It looks like a twin stick shooter where stuff explodes, which seems fun but shallow.
Bought it because I have a raging boner for synthwave. Stayed for the absolutely insane replay-value. This game is legit god-tier. Visceral violence. Fully destructible everything. Granular difficulty curve. In your face graphics. The friendliest devteam you've ever seen. Take it from one of the biggest synthwave hoarders out there, you need this in your collection yesterday. And then you buy the vinyl. And the extra vinyl. And then MAVS entire discography on bandcamp, you buy a DeLorean, pimp it out with a sick stereo that still takes tapes, and you start driving for fun.. Get in the fucking robot.
Huge synthwave fan myself, the soundtrack is fucking incredible and so is the gameplay! There's nothing like fighting a professional military with just a Tuk Tuk armed with two close range cannons while also getting to destroy a kick ass cyberpunk city and get paid for it!
Yep - found MAVS through this game and then got a subscription (and a vinyl) on bandcamp. Can you believe the dude lives in Tennessee? If anybody hasn't already listened to his albums outside of this great soundtrack, they're all right here: makeupandvanityset.bandcamp.com/
Literally every other mech game/anime: "NOOOO, you can't just kill and destroy everything, you are supposed to have deep regrets and conversations about violence and the futility of war!!" Brigador: "HAHA city goes BOOM BOOM !!"
As someone that grew up with soldiers and later injured and mentally scarred veterans close to me (both family and friends) I can tell you that it gets really fucking annoying in the long run. Real life war sucks but as I remember one of said veterans, he just wanted to BRRRRRT and do warcrimes in ArmA, not sit and hear hamfisted commentary about war from a civvie that hasn't even heard an artillery cannon or an air raid siren go off for real, he already struggled a lot with the experiences of war and video games was just his way to kick back and have fun. I can't play Metal Gear Solid because of all the hamfisted anti war commentary in it, for example. It gets interesting with games like This War of Mine where it is from a civilian perspective or something historical like Verdun, but jesus fucking christ calm down its space stuff in the future! In most of those settings nukes are about as common and frequently used weapon as tear gas or 9x18 is in our real life, current day world.
Honestly, I think that games like Brigador, the ones that don't treat mass murder as anything special, are better at conveying this "WAR BAD" message. Every time a game goes dramatic over war it just comes off as unintentionaly hillarious.
@jocaguz18 I've never understood how an individual could write out a paragraphs worth of error ridden nonsense and post it without the slightest revision or regret.
it's kind of perpetual really. professional militaries getting their asses kicked by unexpectedly organised civilian resistance is a tale as old as professional militaries
@@Graknorke I mean a part of it is that calling the Russian military “professional” is kinda comical. It’s a total paper tiger. Just to echo what everyone else is saying: Brigador is so goddamn good. I'm really baffled by how poorly it sold initially. Here's hoping the future looks a bit brighter for Stellar Jockeys!
Because it was released during the lul of simulation games and everyone universally deeming tank controls obsolete. The game is presented as an old game
Because despite what Mandalore says, controls aren't responsive. Movement is slow and clunky, and half the time you'd think your laser pointer is exactly on the enemy, but you miss. Your main enemy in the game is not the bots, but your own controls. I want to love this game, but the gameplay itself is a chore.
@@ezariogerion3138 I mean that's just the varying acceleration of each vehicle - some are more agile than others. The aiming reticles only extend exactly 90% of the way, which I think spices things up just a bit. This can make it feel like shots aren't connecting correctly, especially with hovering units. It can be modified at will like this: F1 > go to Pack File tab > search for "global" > select RESOURCE_GLOBAL > go to Data Editor tab > scroll through bottom right corner for "Reticles" > set reticle_fade_out_end to 1.0 The engine is really versatile and many things can be modified on the fly. I do however understand that this is obscure, and not something most people are interested in tinkering with.
@@micromikko The thing about the acceleration that make it feel sluggish is that its so slow at the star of movement on all vehicles. "We're in a goddamn warzone, why do you drive like an elderly?!" I will try the reticle adjustment, thank you.

What's funny is that having played through half the campaign, no two campaign missions are exactly alike, visually or gameplay wise, so I could always tell exactly which mission the footage was from. That's such an amazing feat for a game that has like 40 missions...

They've already voiced characters in each other's videos. Sseth was a Drucchi in Mandalore's Total Warhammer video, and Mandalore was a Dunmer in Sseth's Evenicle video.
I think for a lot of indie game studios getting Mandalore to review and recommend your game means much, much more than articles on Kotaku or IGN. I've bought 6 games he's recommended (including this one) and he's never steered me wrong.
Mandalore observes the game. He is doing it right. After Mandalores review everybody can tell - will he\she love the game or not. Unlike the modern reviewers. Which tells you about emotions and all that other stuff. Also they don't show you some actual gameplay because of those embargo's and stuff.

Over a year later I return to this video now with many many hours of Brigador on my played time. I must say this video was my Sseth Synthetik video experience for Mandalore, both having sold me on a game that I've since fell in love with. Thank you again Mandalore for showing me this genuine gem of a game.
Some random guy who just wandered in. Don't think about it too much. Just go and ACQUIRE BRIGADOR, or the Merchants Guild may become angry and attack your credit rating directly.
I love the small details, the fact your vehicle gets pushed back as you fire, and the lights in all the houses and streets turn off when the power station blows up are things the game doesn't need but it adds so much to the experience. More games need to focus on smaller details because they add up.
I bought this game off this review, now I have 50+ hours and a review that the devs commented on. I really appreciate the audiobook for providing inter-universe lore and character motivations. This game is incredibly fun and has a nice charm.

An actually interesting and well made game “Da controls aren’t exactly what I want them to be. 0/10 instant refund” Some boring repetitive barely a game glitch filled mess “This is revolutionary and redefines the very definition of entertainment and the objective concept of fun. 10/10 a must have for all real gamers” Sometimes I feel like we deserve how awful the industry has become.
I think it was Razorfist who made that claim too. Or maybe it was Zero Punctuation... Point is, when a remaster of a Spongebob game is better than a big budget AAA Sony exclusive, yeah, this industry is bad...
Agreed. People have this unhealthy attachment to franchises. It's like a relationship that they seek to validate instead of judging on a case by case basis.

Gave it a whirl per this recommendation. The isometric perspective and tank controls aren't really my thing and take some getting used to, but the setting and presentation keeps me drawn in. Maybe I just miss Hawken, but I would give my left nut for a 3D first-person take on Brigador just to see Solo Nobre from the ground.

Brigador is one those games that I loved so much that when it relased I bought it inmediatly from steam, and when I learned about GOG and DRM-free games, I bought it again with the Sountrack and Audiobook included because it was that good.
After watching all(well most) of your videos over and over, i really appreciate the little touches more. The coms chatter you put in, "Turn back brigador, or be destroyed by those loyal to great leader." Not only do I agree completely, but the chatter audio was done so fucking well, I'm just constantly impressed by the little parts of your videos. VCR Tape recordings, intro animations, its just all splendid.
I was sold on this game when I fired a cannon clean through a massive mansion and into an enemy vehicle behind it, all this taking place within a massive golf course.
I had fun with Brigador back when I played it, mostly because it was an upscaled modern version of a game from my childhood called Gromada. MandaloreGaming Agreed

Literally every other mech game/anime: "NOOOO, you can't just kill and destroy everything, you are supposed to have deep regrets and conversations about violence and the futility of war!!"
Brigador: "HAHA city goes BOOM BOOM !!"
A proper videogame which isn't a moral flex of its creators...pretty refreshing.
In this game, you get 50 bucks if you step on a civilian.
Honestly, I think that games like Brigador, the ones that don't treat mass murder as anything special, are better at conveying this "WAR BAD" message. Every time a game goes dramatic over war it just comes off as unintentionaly hillarious.

It can be modified at will like this:
F1 > go to Pack File tab > search for "global" > select RESOURCE_GLOBAL > go to Data Editor tab > scroll through bottom right corner for "Reticles" > set reticle_fade_out_end to 1.0
The engine is really versatile and many things can be modified on the fly. I do however understand that this is obscure, and not something most people are interested in tinkering with.
