    Thank you very much for all the useful advise and free resources. I have moved to the states from turkey, and realized that the job market is extremely different. I was on the process of transitioning from a teacher to a project manager but i think i might need to restart my whole process by shooting for entry level jobs.
    I have extensive network in turkey, yet it doesnt help me at all. Im also a little worried that i will not be considered to be hired as all my experiences are from turkey. Im starting to realize now that if a regular person has to complete 200 applications to land a job, i probably should apply to a thousand jobs and hope for the best.
    Regardless, thanks again. You're doing a noble work. As a teacher i recognize and appreciate when i see someone who prioritizes helping others over personal gain. I will definitely watch all your content.

      I have a couple of thoughts for you as you search. First, you have a great attitude about the search just seeing it as something you have to do and have to overcome. Keep that up! Second, you may want to look for teacher roles to start. Changing careers AND geographies will be exponentially more difficult. You may need to find a role that is connected to your previous work in some way. Perhaps a PM in education or something like that. I'm not sure how well the teaching job maps across countries, but we do have a shortage of teachers. Best of luck in your job search!

      @@BetterThing-jobs Thank you for your answer and good wishes. I will consider what you said. Even though I have more experience in teaching, I also have good amount of experience in project and program coordinating. That's why I'm applying to entry-level project management related positions. I hope I can be seen by hiring managers soon.

    The unemployment rate is not the real number. It only accounts for unemployed people currently on UC benefits. Those who have exhausted their benefit and fallen off are not even counted as unemployed. Secondly, companies appear to have jobs but they are not hiring people. They post the job, and then they go on a continuous rejection war path, and reject perfectly good candidates, and at the same time, they cry they can't find any good help. This whole thing has turned so Freudian, it is really hard to deal with.

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. It is an incomplete number.

    Is it alright to directly call the potential employers/recruiters just by getting their number from website or profiles ? Is there any specific time zone of calling also what is the difference between this job search call & sales calls ?

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes. call them at work, find their work email and message them there and send a message via linkedin with a career account.

    Even some of the "now hiring" are fake.

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      This is true. Companies will often open "pipeline reqs" to connect with people and shorten their timeline for filling the job when it does open. That said, their intent is always to ultimately hire. It is still worth applying. You will just wait longer for a response.

    Hello I recently lost my retail job of 14 years due to missed days. I know this looks bad but is it possible to find another job even due to losing one from missed time?

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is 100% possible. If you were at the same job for 14 years, your resume shows incredible longevity, especially in retail. You don’t have to say you were let go for missing time. You can give any reason for leaving you like. Your old company cannot disclose the reason for your exit either. There is too much risk for them to make it hard for you to find your next job. You should have no trouble landing your next job.

    By reaching out to the hiring manager, is there a downside risk? Perhaps being "too good" at sleuthing their contact info? Seen as a rule-breaker by attempting to shortcut the HR process?

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, don’t call them at home. That’s just weird. Do contact them at work. Most managers will talk to anyone that shows up in front of them. The recruiters are the gatekeepers. Skip the recruiter and your chances skyrocket. I say that as a recruiter.

    Sir i have a career gap of more than 4 yrs due to family reasons in my field of AEC construction as hvac engineer ? Before that i completed my internship now trying to get back into my industry so how should i engage with potential recruiters for job search ? Which methods on LinkedIn app can be beneficial for faster results more importantly how to convince them...

    • @BetterThing-jobs
      @BetterThing-jobs  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Third party recruiters won't help you in this case. They get paid by companies to fill roles, they are not there to help individual candidates most of the time. LinkedIn has the ability to add an employment gap with a brief description of what you were doing. I would take advantage of that to start. Then find a role to apply to and contact the hiring manager directly. There is a video on my channel where I share a screen and show how to do that. I would reach out with a very brief, hi, I just applied to a role in your team. Do you have a few min to meet and discuss qualifications?

      @@BetterThing-jobs Insightful !!
      Sir but here is the problem my reason for gap was family reasons helping single mom who was working till retirement past 3-4 yrs now i am free and during this time i haven't worked or volunteer as its not a big city where i lived till now but i have watched many useful lectures on TH-cam & attended webinars about my field along with being involved with industry professionals through various groups.. so can i say all these things in interview ? What more reasons should i mention to not sound unprofessional in any way ?? What will increase my chances of getting hired ? If i show some expertise on public speaking or communication skills would that work make me stand out from the rest of candidates...
