  • Is karate actually a filipino martial art is such an interesting take from Jesse Enkamp. I really enjoyed his explanation and his meeting with Johan skallberg who showed him some Kali moves. It does seem like there some moves (flows) that crossed over from Kali / Arnis to karate.

Kali or Eskrima, Is also the fighting style used by the Filipino character named Talim in a arcade game called Soul Calibur. Fascinating that it can be where karate and other martial arts rooted from. Kudos to the master he’s really knowledgeable and skillful in this art. BTW, what’s for your 20K subs video? Congrats 🎈🍾..

Thats bullshit, just when did our history say lapu lapu was the first master of kali? We may think we know lapu lapu but in reality we dont, yes we know he existed and he was a kind of leader during the battle of mactan but other than that most of his origins and background are debatable, theres even a theory that he was a foreigner lol

Kali is an ancient martial arts. Its an arts for self defense from a committed attack in a combat situation, thats why its not suitable for sports competition coz the art is lethal and can cause major injury if not supervised by a professional practitioner.

Martial arts dates back to India.Hindu travelers went to China.China monks travelled to Asia. Same with meditations, chants, etc.Merchants or traders travelled in Asia with martial arts skill.

No evidence that it started in India. The arts are so different.
A lot of leaping, jumping and spinning in Indian arts. Very deep stances. Torso facing more downward (unlike a lot of Chinese arts with torso upright position) 45 degree positions.
No leaping and spinning (eg southern mantis, wing chun, white brow style, hung gar, black tiger, white crane, hop gar, fut gar, hsing, tai chi......)
Also the Bodhidhrama myth was trace to a 17cent fiction manual full of errors. Among other things. I could go on.

Somebody said Kali didn't originate from philippines but from the southern sumatra or west java during the reign of majapahit empire which extends to the island of mindanao to luzon. It was called Kali Majapahit originally.

Sa Pinas maraming tawag sa atin yan bro. Bawat lugar my tawag sa kali.

Binondo in Manilla is the world's oldest chinatown. Dated to the 15th cent.
Trade between Philippines and China been for centuries even before that.
Porcelain and old Chinese coins can be found all the way from Malaysia, Indonesia to Philippines.
Infact old Chinese coins are used in Bali Indonesia as offerings to gods there. They are also uses as lucky charms. They also have a temple dedicated to a Chinese princes married to a Balinese prince. I think they became deities or something like that.
Also in Chinese traditional medicine they use ingredients that comes for that part of the world. Like mace, nut meg, cloves, bird nest soup, sea cucumbers...

Japanese and Filipinos even share food I think.
    Japanese Curry = Ka-re
    Filipino Curry = Kare-Kare
    They even look the same!
    Still unsure?
    Japanese savory "pancake" =
    Okonomiyaki
    Filipino savory "pancake" =
    Ukoy
    They also look very similar.
So martial arts? It would seem so. Food and fighting is how countries tend to easily connect anyway
